Purpose: To investigate the association of diabetes mellitus and metformin use with metabolic acidosis risk after radical cystectomy (RC) and urinary diversion for bladder cancer.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study used TriNetX Research Network data. Patients undergoing RC with continent diversion or ileal conduit for bladder cancer were identified using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) and ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) codes.

This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the association between tinnitus and menstrual cycle disorders in premenopausal women. A total of 558 participants completed a comprehensive questionnaire covering demographics, tinnitus, and gynecological/obstetric history. The analysis investigated the correlation between tinnitus and various menstrual disorders, including dysmenorrhea (primary, secondary, or premenstrual syndrome), as well as different menstrual cycle patterns (regular, hypomenorrhea, menorrhagia, oligomenorrhea, or polymenorrhea).

Background: Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, such as back pain and joint disorders, are common globally and significantly burden healthcare systems. Family medicine clinics serve as the first point of care, requiring providers to manage diverse MSK issues and address gender-specific differences, especially in regions with limited resources, like the Middle East. This study evaluates MSK management, gender differences, and patient perceptions in Jordanian family medicine clinics, aiming to improve care strategies and outcomes in similar settings.

In the quest to improve patient outcomes, one therapeutic agent has garnered significant attention - tranexamic acid (TXA). The basic aim of the study is to systematically review the role of TXA in LGIB.

Background: Fibromyalgia-one of the chronic pain syndromes-characterised by pain, fatigue, and tenderness. The role of certain micronutrients like vitamin D, vitamin B12, and ferritin has been previously investigated in many primary studies aiming to assess both their therapeutic and diagnostic potential in the management of fibromyalgia.
Aim: To compare the levels of vitamin D, ferritin, and vitamin B12 between fibromyalgia patients and healthy controls.

Introduction: Epilepsy is a condition associated with stigma and considerable morbidity, placing a significant burden on patients and their families. It is fundamental to be mindful of the fact that a substantial number of patients remain unaware of the effective surgical procedures that have shown great success in many cases, drawing upon the global underutilization of epilepsy surgery (ES). In this study, we explore the knowledge and attitudes of epilepsy patients towards ES at Jordan University Hospital (JUH).

The transcatheter management of complex cardiovascular diseases has significantly evolved, offering less invasive alternatives to traditional surgical interventions. In this report we describe 2 cases of patients who developed ascending aortic pseudoaneurysms soon after coronary artery bypass grafting. With meticulous computed tomography angiography planning and with live intracardiac echography, these patients underwent successful transcatheter repair using a 6/4-mm Amplatzer Duct Occluder II (Abbott) vascular plug.

Mostly, left-sided aspirations use mechanical and continuous-flow-mediated devices (the AngioVac [AngioDynamics] and Penumbra systems [Penumbra]). To our knowledge, the use of manual aspiration devices has not been reported yet.

Background: The delivery of cancer services changed significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to describe changes in presentations, assess the change in recommendations by the MDT during the pandemic, and describe the subsequent long-term impact of these changes on survival rates in patients with EG cancer.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was designed comparing three patient groups of those referred to EG MDT in the same 6-month period pre-pandemic (PP;2019) during the initial phase of the pandemic (P1;2020) and the year after the initial phase (P2;2021).

: Cervical mesonephric adenocarcinomas (MNACs) are among the rarest neoplasms of the female genital tract. Unlike the majority of cervical cancers, which are predominantly squamous in origin and strongly associated with HPV seropositivity, MNACs are distinct in both histology and pathophysiology. Despite their unique characteristics, MNACs have historically been managed in parallel with squamous cell carcinomas, resulting in a lack of optimised, evidence-based treatment protocols.

Background And Aims: The recently approved maternal vaccination against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can reduce its burden among infants. However, vaccine hesitancy/resistance can undermine the beneficial impact of RSV vaccination. The aim of this study was to assess the willingness of pregnant women in Jordan to receive RSV vaccination and its associated determinants.

Urachal cancer (UrC) is a rare disease which is mostly diagnosed late due to symptoms caused by its local invasion to the urinary bladder. Given the lack of clinical trials and guideline recommendations for systemic treatment, a molecularly informed precision oncology approach is a viable option for UrC already in the early lines of systemic treatment. While single case experiences may provide valuable reference for later decision-making, well-documented clinical experience with off-label targeted treatments is limited to a few patients.

Objectives: Wilson disease (WD) is an autosomal-recessive disorder that disrupts copper homeostasis. ATPase copper transporting beta (ATP7B) gene is implicated as the disease-causing gene in WD. The common symptoms associated with WD include hepatic, neurological, psychiatric, and ophthalmic manifestations.

Background: Endometriosis, a condition that significantly impacts the quality of life for affected women, manifests with a spectrum of symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to severe pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility. A previous single-center study suggested an elevated prevalence of endometriosis in Jordan, prompting the need for larger studies to confirm these findings.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving a sample of 866 women who underwent various laparoscopic procedures for different indications at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jordan University Hospital and Al-Karak Governmental Hospital, two tertiary referral hospitals in Jordan between January 2015 and March 2023.

Background: Electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) have been shown to enhance healthcare quality by improving patient symptom management or quality of life (QoL). However, ePROs data for urothelial cancer (UC) patients receiving systemic therapies are scarce, and the application of ePROs in this patient cohort may need specific setups. This study tested the feasibility of ePROs for UC patients receiving systemic therapies in the outpatient clinic of a tertiary care center.

Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an inherited autosomal recessive disorder resulting from the inheritance of MEFV gene mutations. Patients with FMF are at increased risk of secondary amyloidosis, namely type AA. In some Mediterranean populations, the α genotype was associated with the development of renal amyloidosis, a finding not reproduced in other populations.

Cigarette smoking negatively impacts mesenchymal stem cell functionality, including proliferation, viability, and differentiation potential. Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) are increasingly used for therapeutic purposes, but the specific effects of smoking in vivo on these cells are poorly understood. This study investigates the effects of cigarette smoke on the proliferation, viability, gene expression, and cellular functions of ADMSCs from smoking and non-smoking donors.

Interest has arisen in exploring the off-label application of left-sided percutaneous mechanical aspiration, where conventional management strategies may not suffice. Percutaneous mechanical aspiration has been shown to be effective as a diagnostic and therapeutic intervention in select patients with infective endocarditis. This paper hereby reports the first case of a successful transeptal large bore manual aspiration device (AlphaVac; Angiodynamics) for nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis with total resolution of associated severe mitral valve regurgitation.
