Introduction: The wrist joint is a complex anatomical structure, and various radiographic parameters are utilized to assess its normal alignment and orientation. Among these parameters are carpal height ratio (CHR) and ulnar variance (UV). Previous literature has indicated that factors such as age and gender may influence these parameters; However, there is a lack of studies investigating these differences specifically in the Middle East or Jordan.

  • The study investigates the effectiveness of Endovascular Thrombectomy (EVT) versus Best Medical Treatment (BMT) for patients with large core ischemic infarcts, analyzing data from six randomized control trials (RCTs) involving 1918 patients.
  • Results show that EVT combined with BMT significantly improves 90-day outcomes, yielding higher rates of favorable results (mRS scores), lower mortality rates, and better neurological recovery compared to BMT alone, although it also increases the risk of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH).
  • Specifically, EVT led to a notable absolute improvement in mRS scores (0-1, 0-2, 0-3) by

Purpose: There is a lack of evidence for treatment of some conditions including complication management, suboptimal initial weight loss, recurrent weight gain, or worsening of a significant obesity complication after one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB). This study was designed to respond to the existing lack of agreement and to provide a valuable resource for clinicians by employing an expert-modified Delphi consensus method.

Methods: Forty-eight recognized bariatric surgeons from 28 countries participated in the modified Delphi consensus to vote on 64 statements in two rounds.

Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a stress-induced cardiomyopathy that causes temporary left ventricular wall motion abnormalities and abrupt reversible heart failure. The incidence of perioperative TTS is proportional to the severity of surgical trauma, the duration of the procedure, and the degree of apparent sympathetic activity. A growing number of articles have discussed TTS after a solid organ transplant (SOT), which is one of the circumstances in which physical and emotional stress are at their highest levels.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the technical variations of one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) among IFSO-APC and MENAC experts.

Background: The multitude of technical variations and patient selection challenges among metabolic and bariatric surgeons worldwide necessitates a heightened awareness of these issues. Understanding different perspectives and viewpoints can empower surgeons performing OAGB to adapt their techniques, leading to improved outcomes and reduced complications.

Department of Cardiology, Galway University Hospital, Galway, Ireland; School of Medicine, University of Galway, Galway, Ireland. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant treatment delays for patients needing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), with a marked decrease in procedure volumes during the first two waves of the pandemic.
  • The study analyzed TAVR case data from 130 centers in 61 countries, finding a 15% drop in cases during the first wave and 7% in the second, particularly affecting regions like Africa, Central-South America, and Asia.
  • Factors such as hospital type (private vs public), urban vs rural location, low procedure volumes, a country's socioeconomic status, and stringent public health measures contributed to these reductions, highlighting the need for improved public health policies for future health crises.

Soc Sci Med

January 2024

Department of Anthropology, Yale University, USA; Jackson School of Global Affairs, Yale University, USA; Conflict, Resilience, and Health Program, Yale University, USA. Electronic address:

Research on coparenting is virtually absent from the refugee literature, despite its importance for family systems, children's bio-behavioural and emotional development, and intergenerational responses to social change. In 2022, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with Syrian refugees in Jordan and used thematic analysis to examine how fathers and mothers (n = 15 dyads) enacted parenting together. We identified four approaches characterising how couples navigated coparenting interactions, family cohesion, and intergenerational change.
