Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the types of fungi, specifically Candida species, found in the mouths of healthy individuals and their genetic diversity.
  • Out of 500 participants, different species of Candida were identified, with 130 individuals carrying them, among which C. albicans was the most prevalent.
  • Results reveal a complex relationship between the genotypes and phenotypes of Candida, suggesting that using both microbiological and molecular techniques can improve the identification of these fungi.

Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Institute of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Physical Chemistry, M. Curie-Sklodowska Sq. 3, 20-031 Lublin, Poland. Electronic address:

This article presents a simple and low-cost screening method based on optical microscopy and FT-IR spectroscopy for assessing microparticles found in rice. Five brands of rice packed in paper and foil bags from both the European Union (EU) and non-EU region were tested. Microparticles of various shapes have been found in the rice regardless of the packaging type and origin of the rice.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on bending analysis of laminated composite porous plates under sinusoidal loading using an advanced third-order theory while considering different boundary conditions.
  • A novel finite element formulation was introduced, which simplified the analysis by potentially avoiding complex continuity requirements, enabling better modeling of the plate's bending behavior.
  • The results indicated a significant reduction in deflection for square plates compared to rectangular ones and highlighted that including porosities leads to more substantial deflection changes than stress, which could be beneficial for creating lighter structures.

Unsupervised learning based on restricted Boltzmann machine or autoencoders has become an important research domain in the area of neural networks. In this paper mathematical expressions to adaptive learning step calculation for RBM with ReLU transfer function are proposed. As a result, we can automatically estimate the step size that minimizes the loss function of the neural network and correspondingly update the learning step in every iteration.
