The COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly risky for people with disabilities and severe medical conditions, not only because the virus may be a direct threat to their physical health but also because of social exclusion and negating their needs and rights. This study aimed to assess the attitudes of people from different age groups towards people with intellectual disability (ID). The study included 223 people (19-85 years old) and was conducted in May 2020-January 2021.

Predicting the environmental suitability for onchocerciasis in Africa as an aid to elimination planning.

Recent evidence suggests that, in some foci, elimination of onchocerciasis from Africa may be feasible with mass drug administration (MDA) of ivermectin. To achieve continental elimination of transmission, mapping surveys will need to be conducted across all implementation units (IUs) for which endemicity status is currently unknown. Using boosted regression tree models with optimised hyperparameter selection, we estimated environmental suitability for onchocerciasis at the 5 × 5-km resolution across Africa.

Greater art classification does not necessarily predict better liking: Evidence from graffiti and other visual arts.

We tested the relationship between art classification and liking of the graffiti murals among naive viewers (N = 60 college students). Graffiti murals were classified as art to a lesser extent than both abstract and representational paintings. Surprisingly, graffiti murals were only liked less than representational but not abstract paintings.

Improved Voltammetric Determination of Kynurenine at the Nafion Covered Glassy Carbon Electrode - Application in Samples Delivered from Human Cancer Cells.

Nowadays, development of analytical methods responding to a need for rapid and accurate determination of human metabolites is highly desirable. Herein, an electrochemical method employing a Nafion-coated glassy carbon electrode (Nafion/GCE) has been developed for reliable determination of kynurenine (a key tryptophan metabolite) using a differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry. To our knowledge, this is the first analytical method to allow for kynurenine determination at the Nafion-coated electrode.

The main aim of the study was to examine the mediating role of Facebook intrusion between positive capital and general distress. Positive capital was considered as comprising self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and self-control, while general distress was seen as having three dimensions: depression, anxiety, and stress.

This work presents a new fast and sensitive method for voltammetric determination of Al(III) as Al(III)-cupferron complexes, which was used for the analysis of solution after exposure of aluminum alloy AA2024. Experimental conditions of voltammetric measurement such as preconcentration time, potential, and operating parameters were optimized. The formed Al(III)-cupferron complexes were adsorbed on an in situ plated lead film electrode (PbFE) using the potentials of -1.

The aim of this study was the development and validation of the UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS methods for targeted quantification of biologically important KP substrates (tryptophan and nicotinamide) and metabolites(kynurenines) in samples of serum and peritoneal fluid from gastric cancer patients.

There is a need to search for new antifungals, especially for the treatment of the invasive infections, caused mainly by . These infections are steadily increasing at an alarming rate, mostly among immunocompromised patients. The newly synthesized compounds (-) were characterized by physicochemical parameters and investigated for antimicrobial activity using the microdilution broth method to estimate minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC).

The Role of Motor Imagery in Predicting Motor Skills in Young Male Soccer Players.

The study aimed to find out whether the imagery ability within the two subcomponents of motor imagery (visual and kinesthetic) allows predicting the results in simple response time task and eye-hand coordination task in a group of young male soccer players (9-15 years old). Non-specific simple response time and eye-hand coordination play a key role in predicting specific sports performance level. Participants performed Reaction Time Task, Eye-Hand Coordination Task, and completed Motor Imagery Questionnaire-Revised.

Intellectual humility: an old problem in a new psychological perspective.

Though having been emphasised by philosophers and theologians for centuries, it is only in the last few years that the concept of intellectual humility has been explicitly defined and studied by empirical psychology. However, it has been long enough to recognise the prominent role that being intellectually humble plays for humane functioning, both at an intra- and inter-individual level. Having started with a broader philosophical and historical context, the present paper discusses the psychological conceptualisations of intellectual humility.

Handedness effects on motor imagery during kinesthetic and visual-motor conditions.

Recent studies show that during a simple movement imagery task, the power of sensorimotor rhythms differs according to handedness. However, the effects of motor imagery perspectives on these differences have not been investigated yet. Our study aimed to check how handedness impacts the activity of alpha (8-13 Hz) and beta (15-30 Hz) oscillations during creating a kinesthetic (KMI) or visual-motor (VMI) representation of movement.

Therapeutic relationship and professional burnout in psychotherapists: A structural equation model approach.

Previous studies on the therapists' burnout have focused on individual and environmental risk factors. This study aimed to analyse whether variables reflecting therapeutic relationship-the therapist experience of relational depth and quality of the therapeutic relationship-can be related to psychotherapist burnout. Background: Captive European bison (Bison bonasus) play an active role in conservation measures for this species; this includes education, which may conflict with these animals' welfare. The effect of the presence of visitors on the welfare of captive animals can be negative, positive or neutral. However, the response of a given species to visitors is difficult to predict, since even closely related species display varying levels of tolerance to captivity.

Can moral reasoning be modeled in an experiment?

A review of the literature on moral issues indicates that none of the empirical approaches to moral reasoning proposes an experimental approach which controls for such object-related experimental variables as: knowledge, motivation, acceptance of moral norms and consequences of human behavior in moral situations in a single research procedure. A unique element of the proposed experimental method is a multi-stage model determining morality indicators. In the two-phase design experiment, psychology students were asked to create model ethical stories and then conduct an overall assessment of each of these stories.

A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Study on the Effectiveness of the "Three Good Things for Others" Intervention.

The aim of our study was to test the effectiveness of the "three good things for others" intervention. We used the randomized controlled trial method, with four measurements (pretest, posttest, follow-up after 2 weeks, follow-up after 4 weeks) and with random assignment of participants to experimental and placebo control groups. We investigated the effects of the intervention on prosocial behavior, and in addition on positive and negative affect, and positive orientation (a general tendency to approach reality in a positive way).

Lactones are among the well-known organic substances with a specific taste and smell. They are characterized by antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties. In recent years, among this group of compounds, new biologically active substances have been searched by modifying the main (leading) structure with new analogs with stronger or different responses that may have a toxic effect on the cells of pathogenic bacteria and constitute an alternative to commonly used antibiotics.

Religiosity and Attitudes towards Health, Disease, Death and the Use of Stimulants among Jehovah's Witnesses.

Religiosity is considered as one of the many factors shaping an individual's health consciousness. The aim of the study is an analysis of the correlation between the religiosity of Jehovah's Witnesses and their attitudes towards health and disease. A cross-sectional study was performed on the convenience sample of 171 Jehovah's Witnesses from eastern Poland with the use of two research tools: the author's questionnaire, focusing on attitudes towards health, disease, death and the use of stimulants, and the Duke University Religion Index (DUREL).

Bacterial Endophytes of Spring Wheat Grains and the Potential to Acquire Fe, Cu, and Zn under Their Low Soil Bioavailability.

Wheat grains are usually low in essential micronutrients. In resolving the problem of grain micronutritional quality, microbe-based technologies, including bacterial endophytes, seem to be promising. Thus, we aimed to (1) isolate and identify grain endophytic bacteria from selected spring wheat varieties (bread Oksamyt myronivs'kyi, Struna myronivs'ka, Dubravka, and emmer Holikovs'ka), which were all grown in field conditions with low bioavailability of microelements, and (2) evaluate the relationship between endophytes' abilities to synthesize auxins and the concentration of Fe, Zn, and Cu in grains.

The Potential Application of Magnetic Nanoparticles for Liver Fibrosis Theranostics.

Liver fibrosis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide due to chronic liver damage and leading to cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure. To date, there is no effective and specific therapy for patients with hepatic fibrosis. As a result of their various advantages such as biocompatibility, imaging contrast ability, improved tissue penetration, and superparamagnetic properties, magnetic nanoparticles have a great potential for diagnosis and therapy in various liver diseases including fibrosis.

The aim of our research was to investigate the influence of the situational context of presenting contemporary critical artworks (in an art gallery vs in a laboratory setting) and the way in which one is acquainted with contextual information, i.e. a curatorial description (reading it on one's own vs listening to it vs a lack of curatorial information), on the reception of critical art.

The Religious Meaning System and Resilience in Spouse Caregivers of Cancer Patients: A Moderated Mediation Model of Hope and Affect.

The character of the relationship between religiosity and resilience depends to a large extent on mediation and moderation mechanisms which rely on cognitive and emotional processes. Research conducted within hope theory and the broaden and build theory indicates that hope and affect can mediate and moderate this relationship. The present study explored whether the relationship of the religious meaning system with resilience in spouse caregivers of cancer patients can be mediated by hope and simultaneously moderated by positive and negative affect.
