Background: Among pregnant people, COVID-19 can lead to adverse outcomes, but the specific pregnancy outcomes that are affected by the disease are unclear. In addition, the effect of the severity of COVID-19 on pregnancy outcomes has not been clearly identified.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the associations between COVID-19 with and without viral pneumonia and cesarean delivery, preterm delivery, preeclampsia, and stillbirth.

Pressure ulcers form when skin is compressed against a bony prominence, often in the context of prolonged supine or prone-based care. Hospitalized, bedridden patients are at the highest risk of this complication, especially when preventative measures like regular rotational bed treatment are not employed. In this case report, we present a rare case of a COVID-19-related facial pressure ulcer that occurred in the context of regular rotational bed treatment.

Hydrogen sulfide (H S) is a noxious, potentially poisonous, but necessary gas produced from sulfur metabolism in humans. In Down Syndrome (DS), the production of H S is elevated and associated with degraded mitochondrial function. Therefore, removing H S from the body as a stable oxide could be an approach to reducing the deleterious effects of H S in DS.

Linear lichen planus (LLP), also known as blaschkolinear or blaschkoid lichen planus, is a rare subtype of lichen planus that presents along the lines of Blaschko. While LLP has been associated with vaccinations, neoplasms, medications, and successive pregnancies, we present a case of LLP following a primary pregnancy. A 29-year-old G1P1 female presented to dermatology for the evaluation of an intensely pruritic, whorled rash confined to her left lower leg that appeared shortly after the birth of her first child.

The most prevalent modifiable risk factor for skin cancer is cumulative lifetime exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, supporting the development of interventions promoting the early adoption of sun-protection behaviors. This systematic review summarizes behavioral interventions designed to promote sun-protection behaviors and reduce harmful UV exposure among U.S.

Purpose: The social vulnerability index (SVI), developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a novel composite measure encompassing multiple variables that correspond to key social determinants of health. The objective of this review was to investigate innovative applications of the SVI to oncology research and to employ the framework of the cancer care continuum to elucidate further research opportunities.
Methods: A systematic search for relevant articles was performed in five databases from inception to 13 May 2022.

Purpose: To evaluate the association of posterior vitreous opacities (PVOs) on optical coherence tomography with retinal tears identified on examination in patients with acute, symptomatic posterior vitreous detachment (PVD).
Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from the medical records of 388 patients with acute, symptomatic PVD between January 1, 2021, and June 30, 2021. Included patients had received a primary diagnosis of PVD and presented with flashes and/or floaters.

It is recognized increasingly that common surgical infections of the peritoneal cavity may be treated with antibiotic agents alone, or source control surgery with short-course antimicrobial therapy. By extension, testable hypotheses have emerged that such infections may not actually be infectious diseases, but rather represent inflammation that can be treated successfully with neither surgery nor antibiotic agents. The aim of this review is to examine extant data to determine which of uncomplicated acute appendicitis (uAA), uncomplicated acute calculous cholecystitis (uACC), or uncomplicated mild acute diverticulitis (umAD) might be amenable to management using supportive therapy alone, consistent with the principles of antimicrobial stewardship.

Spiny keratoderma (SpK) is a rare skin condition characterized by spine-like papules on the palms and soles. The condition is identified under several names such as "music box spine keratosis" and "palmoplantar filiform hyperkeratosis," creating ambiguity in the diagnostic and histopathologic features of the disease. In this study, we reviewed 84 cases of SpK to examine patient demographics, medical history, clinical and histopathological descriptions, and sporadic versus hereditary onset.

Spontaneous isolated celiac artery dissection (SICAD) is a rare condition, defined as dissection of the celiac artery without aortic involvement. Because of its low prevalence, most studies have been limited to case reports and case series. We have described the case of a 44-year-old woman who had presented with symptomatic SICAD that had resulted in compromised flow to the hepatic arteries and was successfully treated with balloon angioplasty.

Objective: The use of upper extremity (UE) access is an accepted and often implemented approach for fenestrated/branched endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (F-BEVAR). The advent of steerable sheaths has enabled the performance of F-BEVAR using a total transfemoral (TF) approach without UE access, potentially decreasing the risks of cerebral embolic events. The purpose of the present study was to assess the outcomes of F-BEVAR using UE vs TF access.

Background: In areas without convenient access to dermatology care, primary care providers (PCPs) serve as an important patient resource for early skin cancer detection. To determine the most effective strategy for skin cancer detection training in PCPs, we conducted a systematic review of educational interventions and performed a meta-analysis on sensitivity and specificity outcomes in PCPs.
Objectives: To summarize data on skin cancer sensitivity and specificity outcomes for PCP-targeted training programs and diagnostic algorithms.

The ethical and regulatory oversight of any clinical activity related to human subjects is commonly determined based on its categorization as either clinical practice or research. Prominent bioethicists have criticized the traditional distinctions used to delineate these categories, calling them counterproductive and outmoded, and arguing that learning and clinical practice should be deliberately and appropriately integrated. Personalized trials represent a clinical activity with characteristics that overlap both categories, making ethical and regulatory oversight requirements less straightforward.
