Coronavirus Disease 2019 in Pregnancy: The Experience at an Urban Safety Net Hospital.

Shortly after the identification of a novel coronavirus, the coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, a global pandemic was declared. There have been conflicting data about the severity of COVID-19 disease course in pregnant women, with most US data suggesting an increase in severity and increased need for hospitalization and intubation in obstetric patients. In the general population, the disease is more common among racial and ethnic minority populations, and severity is increased with comorbid conditions and obesity.

The objective of this study was to examine the role of health locus of control (HLOC) in the relationship between religiosity and COVID-19 vaccination intention.

The utility of video technology and enhanced infection control in reducing COVID-19 disease burden in a custodial setting.

We describe the use of video technology to enhance case interviews, identify COVID-19 contacts, and determine exposures risk within a large juvenile temporary detention center. We created a COVID-19 outbreak management protocol which included the formation of an outbreak management team and enhanced infection control practices using video surveillance. Currently, our institution's positivity rate remains low for both staff and residents largely because of the outbreak management team.

Systemic Sclerosis Is Associated With Increased Inpatient Mortality in Patients Admitted for Atrial Fibrillation: Analysis of the National Inpatient Sample.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of patients primarily admitted for atrial fibrillation (AFib) with and without a secondary diagnosis of systemic sclerosis (SSc). The primary outcome was inpatient mortality. Hospital length of stay (LOS), total hospital charges, odds of undergoing ablation, and electrical cardioversion were secondary outcomes of interest.

Contribution of individual components to composite end points in contemporary cardiovascular randomized controlled trials.

Unlabelled: Cardiovascular randomized controlled trials (RCTs) typically set composite end points as the primary outcome to enhance statistical power. However, influence of individual component end points on overall composite outcomes remains understudied.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE for RCTs published in 6 high-impact journals (The Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the European Heart Journal) from 2011 to 2017.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to compare the outcomes of patients primarily admitted for ischemic stroke with and without a secondary diagnosis of RA.

Methods: Data were abstracted from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) 2016 and 2017 database. The NIS was searched for hospitalizations for adult patients with ischemic stroke as principal diagnosis with and without RA as secondary diagnosis using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision codes.

Intermediate and Late Outcomes With PCI vs CABG for Left Main Disease - Landmark Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials.

PCI to improve survival is currently recommended as a reasonable alternative to CABG in patients with unprotected left main disease. However, RCTs to support this recommendation has generated mixed results and recently published EXCEL trial has sparked debate about differences in late mortality. To address this point, we performed landmark meta-analysis of 4 RCTs with 5 year follow up data - EXCEL, NOBLE, PRECOMBAT and SYNTAX LEFT MAIN.

The longitudinal relationship between patient-reported outcomes and clinical characteristics among patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network.

Background: Understanding the relationship between clinical and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) will help support clinical care and future clinical trial design of novel therapies for focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).

Methods: FSGS patients ≥8 years of age enrolled in the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network completed Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System PRO measures of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) (children: global health, mobility, fatigue, pain interference, depression, anxiety, stress and peer relationships; adults: physical functioning, fatigue, pain interference, sleep impairment, mental health, depression, anxiety and social satisfaction) at baseline and during longitudinal follow-up for a maximum of 5 years. Linear mixed-effects models were used to determine which demographic, clinical and laboratory features were associated with PROs for each of the eight children and eight adults studied.

Dissemination of misleading information regarding vaccine safety has contributed to the reduction in vaccination rates and the resurgence of diseases once considered eliminated. The CDC WONDER interface can be used to perform simple but powerful safety analyses and counter misinformation. The dissemination of false and misleading information regarding vaccine adverse reactions online has led to negative consequences, including raising parents' concerns about vaccine safety and fostering a growing opposition to the use of vaccines.

Assessment of intimate partner violence abuse ratings by recently abused and never abused women.

Background: There are a paucity of directly reported intimate partner violence survivors' experiences, especially in women of color. This study measures recently/currently abused women's ratings of varied abuse events compared to ratings from never abused women.

Methods: Women in a single, urban, public hospital emergency department (ED) were screened for intimate partner violence using the Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS).

Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Drug-Eluting Stents: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis.

Background: The optimal duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents remains uncertain. We compared short-term (<6-month) DAPT followed by aspirin or P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy; midterm (6-month) DAPT; 12-month DAPT; and extended-term (>12-month) DAPT after percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents.

Methods: Twenty-four randomized, controlled trials were selected using Medline, Embase, Cochrane library, and online databases through September 2019.

Diagnostic accuracy of the PLASMIC score in patients with suspected thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The PLASMIC score was developed to identify patients with thrombotic microangiopathy who are most likely to have immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and benefit from therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). PLASMIC scores of 0-4, 5, and 6-7 are said to correspond to low, intermediate, and high probability of TTP, respectively.

Study Design And Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the diagnostic accuracy of the PLASMIC score in adults with suspected TTP.
