Study Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of future occupational physicians and to evaluate their expectations from and motivations for undertaking postgraduate medical education courses in occupational medicine. This will provide a basis for further increasing the attractiveness of occupational medicine as a discipline in preventive medicine and counteracting the shortage of occupational medical physicians.

Methods: At five locations in Germany, physicians in postgraduate medical education courses in occupational medicine were asked about their expectations from occupational medicine, their reasons for starting postgraduate medical education courses, and their assessment of these courses.

In this technical note we show with two simple experiments how Perfluorodecalin (PFD), an injectable perfluorocarbon, can be used as an agent for resuspending microparticulate suspensions in primary packaging containers for injection. Furthermore, we explain how this can be a substantial improvement regarding patient compliance in comparison to the commonly used gas headspace for resuspension. Our experiments are conducted with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) particles (often used in extended-release pharmaceutical formulations for injection) and in primary packaging that is commonly used in injection devices (glass cartridges).

The electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron encode information on the spatial structure of their charge and magnetization distributions. While measurements of the proton are relatively straightforward, the lack of a free neutron target makes measurements of the neutron's electromagnetic structure more challenging and more sensitive to experimental or model-dependent uncertainties. Various experiments have attempted to extract the neutron form factors from scattering from the neutron in deuterium, with different techniques providing different, and sometimes large, systematic uncertainties.

A method is proposed to estimate the energetic and entropic effects of spins of neighbouring molecules on the spin transition of a mononuclear spin crossover (SCO) complex in a molecular crystal. Density functional theory (DFT) methods have been used to model the SCO material [Fe(Lnpdtz)(NCS)] (Lnpdtz = 2-naphthyl-5-pyridyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole) exhibiting numerous π-π interactions using a 2D arrangement of 15 molecules. The modelling considers only the effects in the crystallographical plane with a particularly pronounced stacking but paves the way for future work with 3D arrangements which are computational much more costly.

The development of realistic dummies for training the distal phalanx amputation (DPA) technique in mouse pups is a promising alternative to reduce and replace animals in training for research and teaching. To test this, we obtained micro-CT data from postnatal day-five mouse pups, meticulously segmented them, and converted them into a 3D mesh format suitable for 3D printing. Once the dummy was printed, it was evaluated during actual training courses in two different groups: in the first group, users received no dummies to train the DPA, and in the second group, users were trained with three dummies.

An improved understanding of the underlying physicochemical properties of respiratory aerosol that influence viral infectivity may open new avenues to mitigate the transmission of respiratory diseases such as COVID-19. Aims: The safety and effectiveness of the MitraClip device to treat functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) has been tested in previous clinical trials yielding somewhat heterogeneous results in heart failure (HF) patients. Over time, the MitraClip device system has been modified and clinical practice evolved to consider also less severely diseased HF patients with FMR for this therapeutic option. The RESHAPE-HF2 trial aims to assess the safety and effectiveness of the MitraClip device system on top of medical therapy considered optimal in the treatment of clinically significant FMR in symptomatic patients with chronic HF.

Surface-catalyzed reactions have been used to synthesize carbon nanomaterials with atomically predefined structures. The recent discovery of a gold surface-catalyzed [3 + 3] cycloaromatization of isopropyl substituted arenes has enabled the on-surface synthesis of arylene-phenylene copolymers, where the surface activates the isopropyl substituents to form phenylene rings by intermolecular coupling. However, the resulting polymers suffered from undesired cross-linking when more than two molecules reacted at a single site.

Members of the Signal Peptide-Peptidase (SPP) and Signal Peptide-Peptidase-like (SPPL) family are intramembrane aspartyl-proteases like their well-studied homologs, the presenilins, which comprise the catalytically active subunit within the γ-secretase complex. The lack of in vitro cleavage assays for SPPL proteases limited their biochemical characterization as well as substrate identification and validation. So far, SPPL proteases have been analyzed exclusively in intact cells or membranes, restricting mechanistic analysis to co-expression of enzyme and substrate variants colocalizing in the same subcellular compartments.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic recurrent inflammatory skin disease with a bipolar age distribution in childhood, adolescence and middle adulthood. Up to 50% of AD patients show ocular involvement, which can be potentially sight threatening. In this work we analysed the 87Sr/86Sr, δ18O and δ13C isotope composition of 65 moose bone and antler samples from Sweden from wild-shot individuals dated between 1800 and 1994 to study moose mobility and feeding behaviour for (paleo)ecological applications. Sr data were compared with isoscapes of the Scandinavian region, built ad-hoc during this study, to understand how moose utilise the landscape in Northern Europe.

The revised version of the directive on home care and community-based intensive care of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) requires that tracheotomized patients are regularly evaluated with the aim of identifying and promoting the therapeutic potential after hospital discharge. Dysphagia treatment plays a crucial role as without improvement of severe dysphagia there is practically no possibility for decannulation.
