First Results in the Search for Dark Sectors at NA64 with the CERN SPS High Energy Muon Beam.

We report the first search for dark sectors performed at the NA64 experiment employing a high energy muon beam and a missing energy-momentum technique. Muons from the M2 beamline at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron with a momentum of 160  GeV/c are directed to an active target. The signal signature consists of a single scattered muon with momentum <80  GeV/c in the final state, accompanied by missing energy, i.

Metastatic Breast Cancer: Prolonging Life in Routine Oncology Care.

Overall survival (OS) of patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) has improved within controlled clinical trials. Whether these advances translate into improved OS in routine care is controversial. We therefore analyzed retrospectively unselected female patients from five oncology group practices and one university outpatient clinic, whose initial diagnosis of MBC was between 1995 and 2022.

Design and Optimization of Novel Benzimidazole- and Imidazo[4,5-]pyridine-Based ATM Kinase Inhibitors with Subnanomolar Activities.

The ATM kinase is a promising target in cancer treatment as an important regulator of the cellular response to DNA double-strand breaks. In this work, we present a new class of specific benzimidazole-based ATM inhibitors with picomolar potency against the isolated enzyme and favorable selectivity within relative PIKK and PI3K kinases. We could identify two promising inhibitor subgroups with significantly different physicochemical properties, which we developed simultaneously.

Dithiodiketopiperazine derivatives from endophytic fungi and .

A new epidithiodiketopiperazine (ETP), pretrichodermamide G (), along with three known (epi)dithiodiketopiparazines () were isolated from cultures of and , endophytic fungi associated with medicinal plants and sp., respectively. The structure of the new compound () was established on the basis of spectroscopic data, including 1D/2D NMR and HRESIMS.

Restrained eating predicts effortful self-control as indicated by heart rate variability during food exposure.

When confronted with food, restrained eaters have to inhibit the pursuit of the short-term goal of enjoying their food for the sake of the long-term goal of controlling their weight. Thus, restrained eating creates a self-control situation. In the present study we investigated the initiation of effortful self-control by food cues in accordance with the level of restrained eating.

Sound levels and their effects on children in a German primary school.

Considerable sound levels are produced in primary schools by voices of children and resonance effects. As a consequence, hearing loss and mental impairment may occur. In a Cologne primary school, sound levels were measured in three different classrooms, each with 24 children, 8-10 years old, and one teacher.

Visual targeting of motor actions in climbing Drosophila.

Drosophila melanogaster flies cross surmountable gaps in their walkway of widths exceeding their body length with an astounding maneuver but avoid attempts at insurmountable gaps by visual width estimation. Different mutant lines affect specific aspects of this maneuver, indicating a high complexity and modularity of the underlying motor control. Here we report on two mutants, ocelliless(1) and tay bridge(1), that, although making a correct decision to climb, fail dramatically in aiming at the right direction.

Pulmonary ventilation imaged by magnetic resonance: at the doorstep of clinical application.

Over the past few years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as an important instrument for functional ventilation imaging. The aim of this review is to summarize established clinical methods and emerging techniques for research and clinical arenas. Before the advent of MRI, chest radiography and computed tomography (CT) dominated morphological lung imaging, while functional ventilation imaging was accomplished with scintigraphy.

Assessment of lung volumes using helical CT at inspiration and expiration: comparison with pulmonary function tests.

Objective: This study was designed to determine lung volumes using inspiratory and expiratory helical CT with two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) postprocessing and to compare the accuracy of those measurements with pulmonary function test results.

Subjects And Methods: Seventy-two patients with suspected pulmonary disease underwent unenhanced helical CT (slice thickness, 8 mm; pitch, 2; increment, 8 mm) at deep inspiration and expiration. Lung volumes were determined using either a 2D approach (semiautomatic segmentation; thresholds, -1024 and -200 H) or a 3D technique (double-threshold seeded volumes of interest; thresholds, -1024 H [lower] and -900, -500, 400, -300, or -200 H [upper]).

On the prediction of dentist-evaluated patient compliance in orthodontics.

The aim of the present study was to determine to what degree social and psychological patient variables can predict orthodontic co-operation evaluated by dentists 3 and 6 months after the beginning of treatment. The subjects were 94 patients from seven orthodontic practices. They received a questionnaire with four subscales: impulsiveness, dominance, anxiety, and orthodontic attitudes.
