The fluorescence quantum yield of organic NIR-emitters is typically limited by internal conversion (IC), restricting their applications in imaging and quantum technology. Here, we study the impact of deuteration and temperature on the emission properties of dibenzoterrylene (DBT) by bulk and single molecule spectroscopy. Based on simple photophysical modelling, we first clarify how IC affects the single molecule emission rate.

This study investigates the biogeography of the Australian Camphorosmeae (Amaranthaceae ) lineage and how it relates to shifts in climatic niche and habitat types. Building on previous research and data resources, we integrate molecular phylogenetics, bioclimatic data and biogeographical models to deepen our understanding of the diversification and adaptation of this group across Australia's diverse landscapes in relation to palaeoclimatic changes. For 159 species representing 12 genera, georeferenced distribution points were used to define the most informative bioclimatic variables using principal component analysis.

We highlight that PE-specific QoL improves over time despite no significant changes in cardiopulmonary performance.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFLysosomotropism is a phenomenon of diverse pharmaceutical interests because it is a property of compounds with diverse chemical structures and primary targets. While it is primarily reported to be caused by compounds having suitable lipophilicity and basicity values, not all compounds that fulfill such criteria are in fact lysosomotropic. Here, we use morphological profiling by means of the cell painting assay (CPA) as a reliable surrogate to identify lysosomotropism.

Objective: To evaluate prognostic differences between minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) and open esophagectomy (OE) in patients with surgery after a prolonged interval (>12 wk) following chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
Background: Previously, we established that a prolonged interval after CRT before esophagectomy was associated with poorer long-term survival.
Methods: This was an international multicenter cohort study involving 17 tertiary centers, including patients who received CRT followed by surgery between 2010 and 2020.
Background: Even after atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation, many patients still experience relevant symptom burden. The objective of the MENTAL AF trial was to determine whether app-based mental training (MT) during the 3 months following pulmonary vein isolation reduces AF-related symptoms.
Methods And Results: Patients scheduled for pulmonary vein isolation were enrolled and randomized 1:1 to either app-based MT or usual care.
Background: Current interest surrounding large language models (LLMs) will lead to an increase in their use for medical advice. Although LLMs offer huge potential, they also pose potential misinformation hazards.
Objective: This study evaluates three LLMs answering urology-themed clinical case-based questions by comparing the quality of answers to those provided by urology consultants.

Objective: To provide a comprehensive overview of geographical patterns (2001-2010) and time trends (1993-2012) of cancer incidence in children aged 0-19 years in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and interpret the findings in the context of global patterns.
Methods: Geographical variations in 2001-2010 and incidence trends over 1993-2012 in the population of LAC younger than 20 years were described using the database of the third volume of the International Incidence of Childhood Cancer study containing comparable data. Age-specific incidence per million person-years (ASR) was calculated for population subgroups and age-standardized (WSR) using the world standard population.

C₄ is one of three known photosynthetic processes of carbon fixation in flowering plants. It evolved independently more than 61 times in multiple angiosperm lineages and consists of a series of anatomical and biochemical modifications to the ancestral C pathway increasing plant productivity under warm and light-rich conditions. The C lineages of eudicots belong to seven orders and 15 families, are phylogenetically less constrained than those of monocots and entail an enormous structural and ecological diversity.

Methods and Results A total of 1002 CCSs (age range, 23-48 years) diagnosed with neoplasia before an age of 15 years underwent a comprehensive cardiovascular screening. An age- and sex-matched sample from the population-based GHS (Gutenberg Health Study) served as a comparison group.

Key Clinical Message: In near-fatal asthma, the combination of ECMO therapy and isoflurane application via an intensive care ventilator with an anesthetic conservation device represents a therapeutic combination in seemingly hopeless clinical situations.
Abstract: We report a case of an adult patient with near-fatal asthma, who was implanted venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in an extern hospital before transfer to our tertiary center. After 13 days and various therapeutic approaches, including inhaled isoflurane therapy via an anesthetic-conserving device, the patient was decannulated and extubated 3 days later.

During the last two decades, large epidemiological studies have shown that the physical environment, including noise, air pollution or heavy metals, have a considerable impact on human health. It is known that the most common cardiovascular risk factors are all associated with endothelial dysfunction. Vascular tone, circulation of blood cells, inflammation, and platelet activity are some of the most essential functions regulated by the endothelium that suffer negative effects as a consequence of environmental pollution, causing endothelial dysfunction.

Objective: Impaired reward processing has been found in individuals with anxiety, but also major depressive disorder (MDD). Here, we studied neural correlates of reward anticipation and processing in a sample of youth with severe social phobia and comorbid depression (SP/MDD) and investigated the specific contribution of SP and MDD symptoms.
Methods: 15 affected, unmedicated and 25 typically developing (TD) youth completed a monetary gambling task, which included a positive, negative and ambiguous reward condition.

Objective: The current study was undertaken to prospectively explore whether having low levels of von Willebrand factor (vWF) antigen and vWF activity reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease and death.
Methods: VWF antigen and vWF activity were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and an immunological-based assay, respectively, in a subsample of 4857 individuals aged between 35 and 74 years old, enrolled between April 2007 and October 2008 in the population-based Gutenberg Health Study. VWF antigen and activity below the 20th percentile was set as a measure of "low vWF.

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital disorder defined by a triad of capillary malformation, venous malformation, and soft tissue or bone hypertrophy most commonly affecting unilateral lower limbs. Due to the rarity of KTS, evidence-based guidelines for the management of pregnancy in people with KTS are still lacking. A 34-year-old woman (gravidity 1; parity 0) presented at 25 weeks of gestation with malformations of the right side of her body.

Background Regular exercise training represents an important modifier of arterial stiffness (AS). Therefore, sex-specific relations between domains of physical activity (PA; commuting, domestic, and leisure-time PA, including active sport and occupational PA) with AS were investigated. Methods and Results Stiffness index by digital photoplethysmography was investigated in 12 650 subjects from the GHS (Gutenberg Health Study).
