Background: Lower limb artery disease (LEAD) is accompanied by multiple comorbidities; however, the effect of hyperpolypharmacy on patients with LEAD has not been established. This study investigated the associations between hyperpolypharmacy, medication class, and adverse clinical outcomes in patients with LEAD.
Methods: This study used data from a prospective multicenter observational Japanese registry.

Background: Safe and efficient provision of intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) requires a strategy to individualize infusion rates. Estimating the maximum acceptable infusion rate (MaxInfRate) of soybean oil-based ILE (SO-ILE) in individuals by using a triglyceride (TG) kinetic model was reported to be feasible. In this study, we aimed to externally validate and, if needed, update the MaxInfRate estimation.

Dementia is characterized by acquired cognitive dysfunction caused by various neurological disorders. Many neurological conditions can cause dementia, including neurodegenerative diseases, vascular disorders, infections, inflammation, demyelination, intoxication, metabolic disorders, tumors, and head trauma. Despite recent developments in biomarkers and imaging techniques, neuropathological examination is necessary for the final diagnosis.

Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a neurodegenerative disorder that is caused by the abnormal expansion of non-coding trinucleotide GGC repeats in . NIID is clinically characterized by a broad spectrum of clinical presentations. To date, the relationship between expanded repeat lengths and clinical phenotype in patients with NIID remains unclear.

We aimed to assess the utility of AT(N) classification in clinical practice. We measured the cerebrospinal fluid levels of amyloid-β (Aβ) 42, Aβ40, phosphorylated tau, total tau, and neurofilament light chain (NfL) in samples from 230 patients with Alzheimer's clinical syndrome (ACS) and 328 patients with non-ACS. The concordance of two A-markers (i.

Background: Radiological features in patients with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) are hyperintensity of the cerebral cortex and the basal ganglia displayed by diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI). We performed a quantitative study on neuropathological and radiological findings.
Methods: Patient 1 received a definite diagnosis of MM1-type sCJD, while patient 2 received a definite diagnosis of MM1 + 2-type sCJD.

Background: Previous phase III study has demonstrated that osimertinib, a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (TKI), exhibits superior antitumor effects compared to first-generation EGFR-TKIs and successfully prolonged overall survival (OS) in patients with -mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although first- and second-generation EGFR-TKIs are risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE), whether osimertinib increases the VTE risk remains unclear. In addition, no treatment strategy exists for patients with VTE during osimertinib.

Background: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers in patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation (CAA-ri) have demonstrated inconsistent results.
Objective: We investigated the relationship between CSF amyloid-β protein (Aβ) and vascular pathological findings to elucidate the mechanisms of Aβ elimination from the brain in CAA-ri.
Methods: We examined Aβ40 and Aβ42 levels in CSF samples in 15 patients with CAA-ri and 15 patients with Alzheimer's disease and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (AD-CAA) using ELISA as a cross-sectional study.

Background/aim: Advanced gastric cancer (AGC) rarely presents with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) at the time of diagnosis. Chemotherapy should be selected in consideration of hematological toxicities because these patients are at high risk of hemorrhagic complications. The leucovorin, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) regimen is an effective and less toxic regimen for patients with AGC and poor performance status.

Background: Manual aspiration as the initial management of a large pneumothorax in a clinically stable patient has been reported to be safe and effective. However, the effect with smaller needles, the number of aspiration, the indication other than spontaneous pneumothorax and failure factors are unknown. We assessed the effectiveness and failure risk factors of manual aspiration up to three using a 20- or 22-gauge (G) needle in patients with a large, clinically stable pneumothorax.

Due to the developments in the treatment for hepatitis, it is possible to prevent the progression of liver fibrosis and improve patients' prognosis even if it has already led to liver cirrhosis (LC). Consequently, a two-step study was conducted. To begin with, a retrospective study was conducted to identify the potential predictors of non-malignancy-related mortality from LC.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the utility of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening by conducting an all-case survey of newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients at Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
Patients And Methods: Depending on whether patients were subjected to screening, information was prospectively collected on all prostate cancer patients newly diagnosed between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020, at all institutions in Niigata Prefecture where urologists performing prostate biopsy routinely work and differences in clinical parameters were investigated.
Results: PSA was measured in 478 out of 1332 patients (35.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by infiltration of extensive IgG4-positive plasma cells and lymphocytes. Although IgG4-RD has been observed in almost all organs, it rarely affects the myocardium. Cardiovascular lesions of IgG4-RD appear as aortic (aortic aneurysm and aortitis) and pericardial (constrictive pericarditis) lesions as well as pseudotumors around the coronary arteries.

Background: The neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL) are a group of autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorders that are characterized by the accumulation of ceroid lipofuscins. The NCLs are categorized into four classes based on the age of onset. Kufs disease is a rare adult-onset NCL caused by mutations in the CLN6 gene, which is rarely observed in the Japanese population.

An inverse correlation between body mass index and mortality in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) has been reported. However, little information is available regarding the impact of body composition on the clinical outcomes in patients with PAD. This study evaluated the relationships between the lean body mass index (LBMI), body fat % (BF%), and mortality and major amputation rate in patients with PAD.

Background: A rapid infusion rate for intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) can cause adverse effects; therefore, safe and efficient infusion rates are desired. This study aimed to develop a triglyceride (TG) kinetic model after soybean oil-based ILE (SO-ILE) administration and individualize the infusion rate via a population pharmacokinetic approach.
Methods: Eighty-three inpatients were enrolled in this prospective observational study.
