An imbalance in the serum sodium to chloride ratio (Na/Cl) was linked to higher mortality among heart failure patients. Nonetheless, the prognostic significance of Na/Cl in individuals undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) remains unexplored. This study seeks to explore the association between initial Na/Cl levels and mortality in PD patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Preoperative diagnosis of Gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma (GBSCC) is challenging, and previous reports on its contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) characteristics are lacking.
  • A specific case of GBSCC is discussed, showcasing unique CEUS findings that contributed to an earlier diagnosis.
  • The CEUS showed irregular peripheral ring-like enhancement in the arterial phase, hypoenhancement in later phases, and a central area that remained non-enhanced throughout.

Article Synopsis
  • A multivariate logistic regression model was created to identify risk factors for postoperative bleeding in patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early esophageal cancer, analyzing data from 258 patients.
  • The study found that factors such as history of hypertension, lesion diameter, submucosal fibrosis, C-reactive protein (CRP), and albumin (ALB) significantly increased the risk of bleeding, with an observed bleeding incidence of 12.02%.
  • The nomogram developed from this research demonstrated strong predictive ability, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.821 for the training set and 0.740 for the validation set, indicating good fit between actual and predicted values.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been demonstrated to play critical roles in the initiation and development of breast cancer (BC). This study aimed to uncover the regulatory roles of a novel circRNA, circRPPH1 (hsa_circ_0000514) in BC progression. CircRPPH1, miR-296-5p and FOXP4 levels were determined by qRT-PCR.

Objective: A meta-analysis of the screened data was performed to investigate the survival status of patients with second primary non-small cell lung cancer (SPNSCLC) after pulmonary lobectomy and partial pulmonary lobectomy, and assess the applicability of such option in the treatment of such disease.

Methods: Based on the databases of PubMed, Ovid, and CNKI, relevant reports on postoperative survival of patients with SPNSCLC were obtained, and the information, including authors, publication year, research type, tumor staging, tumor diameter, surgical options, reasons for resection, and overall survival (OS), was extracted. The data were analyzed using Review Manager 5.

Objective: Plumbagin, a naphthoquinone constituent of Plumbago zeylanica L. (Plumbaginaceae), has been extensively studied for its pharmacological activities and reported to show a good anti-cancer activity in different human cancer cell lines. It is known to exhibit proapoptotic, antiangiogenic and antimetastatic effects in cancer cells.
