Background: The glucose-to-lymphocyte ratio (GLR), a glucose metabolism and systemic inflammatory response parameter, is associated with an adverse prognosis for various diseases. However, the association between serum GLR and prognosis in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) is poorly understood.

Methods: In this multi-center cohort study, 3236 PD patients were consecutively enrolled between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2018.

Objectives: To investigate the diagnostic value of unenhanced CT in mechanical small bowel obstruction (SBO) with small bowel necrosis, and to establish a predictive model.

Methods: From May 2017 to December 2021, the patients with mechanical SBO admitted to our hospital were retrospectively collected. Taking pathology-confirmed small bowel necrosis as the gold standard, the experimental group was composed of patients with small bowel necrosis confirmed by pathology, and the control group was composed of patients with no intestinal necrosis confirmed by surgery or successful conservative treatment with no recurrence of intestinal obstruction during 1-month followed-up.

Sepsis is a severe clinical syndrome featured through organ dysfunction due to infection, while the accompanying acute kidney injury (AKI) is linked to significant incidence of morbidity as well as mortality. Recently, emerging evidence has revealed that nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase 4 (NOX4) is implicated in various renal diseases, while its role and modulation in septic acute kidney injury (S-AKI) remains largely unknown. , S-AKI in wild-type and renal tubular epithelial cell (RTEC)-specific NOX4 knockout mice was induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) injection or cecal ligation and puncture (CLP).

Total cholesterol and mortality in peritoneal dialysis: a retrospective cohort study.

BMC Nephrol

May 2023

Department of Nephrology, Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, No.600, Yi Shan Road, Shanghai, 200233, China.

Background: Total cholesterol is inversely associated with mortality in dialysis patients, which seems implausible in real-world clinical practice. May there be an optimal range of total cholesterol associated with a lower mortality risk? We aimed to evaluate the optimal range for peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective real-world cohort study of 3565 incident PD patients from five PD centers between January 1, 2005, and May 31, 2020.

We aimed to investigate the effect of physical activity (PA) on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) prevalence and long-term survival, particularly in some specific population such as those with different socioeconomic status (SES). Multivariate regression and interaction analyses were conducted to deal with confounders and interacting factors. Active PA was associated with lower prevalence of NAFLD in both cohorts.

It has been reported that deletion of tumor necrosis factor-α-induced protein-8 like 2 (TNFAIP8L2, TIPE2) facilitates the activation of T-cell receptors. However, the role of TIPE2 in T-cell-mediated acute transplant rejection remains unclear. To illustrate the underlying cellular mechanisms, we transplanted BALB/c hearts into C57BL/6 wild-type (WT) or C57BL/6 mice deficient for TIPE2 (TIPE2) and found that TIPE2 recipient mice showed significantly prolonged survival of heart allografts and suppressed maturation of CD11c dendritic cells (DCs), which largely abolished the activation and proliferation of alloreactive T cells and their cytotoxic activity.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important biomarker in various biological processes, especially cancer related, yet economic, simple, sensitive and specific methods for miRNA determination are still challenging. In this study, we have developed stepwise-strand displacement amplification (S-SDA)-based colorimetric sensing platform for let-7a miRNA detection in clinical serum samples. Our results demonstrated that the developed S-SDA-based method shows high sensitivity with a detection limit of 63.

Background And Aims: Remnant cholesterol (RC) adversely contributes to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and overall survival in various diseases. However, its role in CVD outcomes and all-cause mortality in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) is limited. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association between RC and all-cause and CVD mortality in patients undergoing PD.

Electronic address:

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have a complex pathogenesis that is yet to be completely understood. However, a strong correlation between Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling and IBD has been observed. T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-containing-3 (Tim-3) has been reported to regulate TLR4/NF-κB by interacting with Galectin-9 (Gal-9), and recombinant Gal-9 can activate Tim-3; however, its potential properties in IBD and the underlying mechanism remain unclear.

Methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2 (MTHFD2) has been implicated in the etiology of various human malignant tumors; however, its exact role in bladder cancer (BC) remains to be explored. Through reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR, western blotting and immunohistochemistry detection of BC tissue, combined with The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database analysis, the present study demonstrated that MTHFD2 was upregulated in BC tissues. MTHFD2 expression in patients with BC was frequently associated with worse prognosis, tumor immune cell infiltration and programmed death‑ligand 1 (PD‑L1) expression.
