Background: The tumor suppressor wild-type p53 is known for its role in inducing apoptosis in tumor cells. This study investigated the relationship between wild-type p53 and protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) and caspase in promoting apoptosis of breast cancer cells.
Methods: Human breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 obtained from the American Type Culture Collection were used in this study.

Maternal exposure to elevated levels of steroid hormones during pregnancy is associated with the development of chronic conditions in offspring that manifest in adulthood. However, the effects of progesterone (P4) administration during early pregnancy on fetal development and subsequent offspring behavior remain poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of P4 treatment during early pregnancy on the transcript abundance in the fetal brain and assess the behavioral consequences in the offspring during adolescence and adulthood.

Psychological stress increases the susceptibility to herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection. There is no effective intervention due to the unknown pathogenesis mechanisms. In this study we explored the molecular mechanisms underlying stress-induced HSV-1 susceptibility and the antiviral effect of a natural compound rosmarinic acid (RA) in vivo and in vitro.

To investigate the function and possible mechanism of miR-92a in malignant behaviors such as paclitaxel resistance in ovarian cancer (OC) cells. The miR-92a and PTEN expression were detected by real-time PCR (RT-PCR). The cell viability and apoptosis were detected by MTT, colony formation and flow cytometry assay, respectively.

Diabetes and cancer incidence have risen tremendously over the years. Additionally, both cancer and diabetes share numerous risks, such as overweight, inactive lifestyles, older age, and smoking. Numerous methods have been suggested to connect obesity and diabetes to cancer advancements, such as increasing insulin/ Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) signaling, lipid and glucose uptake and metabolism, shifts in the cytokine, chemokine, and adipokine profile also variations in the adipose tissue immediately adjacent to cancer spots.

A highly sensitive silica-alumina (Si-Al)-modified capacitive non-Faradaic glucose biosensor was introduced to monitor gestational diabetes. Glucose oxidase (GOx) was attached to the Si-Al electrode surface as the probe through amine-modification followed by glutaraldehyde premixed GOx as aldehyde-amine chemistry. This Si-Al (∼50 nm) modified electrode surface has increased the current flow upon binding of GOx with glucose.

Adenomyosis is one of the most common gynecological disorders that the molecular events underlying its pathogenesis remain not fully understood. Prior studies have shown that endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) played crucial roles in the pathogenesis of adenomyosis. In this study, we utilized two-dimensional gel electrophoresis combined with protein identification by mass spectrometry (2D/MS) proteomics analysis to compare the differential protein expression profile between the paired eutopic and ectopic ESCs (EuESCs and EcESCs) in adenomyosis, and a total of 32 significantly altered protein spots were identified.

Nuclear factor erythroid 2 (NF-E2)-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a transcription factor that can regulate downstream target gene expression. Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) negatively regulates Nrf2 activation and translocation to target its 26S proteasomal degradation. It has been widely reported that the Keap1/Nrf2 pathway is associated with tumorigenesis, chemotherapy resistance and progression and development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Non-syndromic oculocutaneous albinism (nsOCA) is a group of genetically heterogeneous autosomal recessive disorders with complete lack or decrease pigmentation in skin, hair, and eyes. TYR, OCA2, TYRP1, SLC45A2, SLC24A5, and LRMDA were reported to cause OCA1-4 and OCA6-7, respectively. By sequencing all the known nsOCA genes in 114 unrelated Chinese nsOCA patients combined with In silico analyses, splicing assay, and classification of variants according to the standards and guidelines of American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, we detected seventy-one different OCA-causing variants separately in TYR, OCA2, SLC45A2, and SLC24A5, including thirty-one novel variants (13 in TYR, 11 in OCA2, and 7 in SLC45A2).
