Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, the Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic heart condition causing thickening of the heart muscle, potentially leading to serious health issues like heart failure and sudden death, with unclear underlying causes and limited treatments.
  • The study utilized bioinformatics and lab experiments to identify important genes and pathways linked to HCM and to find new drug candidates for potential treatments.
  • Researchers found 145 upregulated and 149 downregulated genes related to HCM, identified a notable miRNA (miR-1469), and screened multiple non-toxic drugs that might influence these key genes, aiming to enhance treatment options for HCM.

Association between body shape index and coronary heart disease in individuals over 20 years old with obese.

J Health Popul Nutr

August 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, the Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330006, China.

Background: While body mass index (BMI) defines obesity as a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the paradoxical theory of BMI suggests that obesity may indeed have a favorable impact on the prognosis of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, this study aims to assess the correlation between body shape index (ABSI), which is a novel measure of obesity, and coronary heart disease (CHD) among obese individuals in the United States.

Methods: The data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were evaluated by us for 5046 patients.

Department of General Surgery, Jiujiang City Key Laboratory of Cell Therapy, Jiu Jiang No.1 People's Hospital, No. 48, Taling South Road, Jiujiang City, 332000, Jiangxi Province, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared oral sulfate solution (OSS) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) for bowel preparation before colonoscopy, analyzing 14 randomized clinical trials with 4,526 patients.
  • OSS was found to provide better quality in bowel preparation, showing higher rates of excellent preparation and higher detection rates of polyps and adenomas than PEG.
  • While OSS had a slightly higher incidence of dizziness, it also resulted in greater patient satisfaction scores, highlighting its potential as the preferred choice for bowel prep.

Department of Neurosurgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China; Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory on Brain Function Repair and Regeneration, Department of Neurosurgery, Zhujiang Hospital, The National Key Clinical Specialty, The Neurosurgery Institute of Guangdong Province, The Engineering Technology Research Center of Education Ministry of China, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Thioredoxin-reductase 2 (Txnrd2) belongs to the thioredoxin-reductase family of selenoproteins and is a key antioxidant enzyme in mammalian cells to regulate redox homeostasis. Here, we reported that Txnrd2 exerted a major influence in brain damage caused by Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) by suppressing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress oxidative stress and via Trx2/Prx3 pathway. Furthermore, we demonstrated that pharmacological selenium (Se) rescued the brain damage after ICH by enhancing Txnrd2 expression.

Background: Delayed neuropsychiatric sequelae (DNS), which seriously affect the daily lives of patients, are the most common complications of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. No uniform screening tool is available for identifying high-risk groups. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to explore whether conventional laboratory indicators and imaging data from primary hospitals could predict the occurrence of DNS.

Background: The efficacy and safety of the oral Janus kinase inhibitor peficitinib were investigated in Asian patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: In this double-blind, phase 3 study, patients from mainland China, Korea, and Taiwan with RA and an inadequate response/intolerance to methotrexate were randomized (1:1:1) to once-daily placebo (N = 128), peficitinib 100 mg (N = 129), or 150 mg (N = 128) in combination with non-biologic DMARDs. At Week 24, patients receiving placebo switched to peficitinib 100 mg or 150 mg.

Antioxidant 1 copper chaperone (Atox1) may contribute to preventing DDP cochlear damage by regulating copper transport family and cell cycle proteins. A rat model of cochlear damage was developed by placing gelatin sponges treated with DDP in the cochlea. HEI-OC1 cells were treated with 133 μM DDP as a cell model.

The value of EYA1/3/4 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma: a study from multiple databases.

Sci Rep

May 2023

Department of Urology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, Yong Wai Zheng Street 17#, Nanchang, 330006, Jiangxi Province, People's Republic of China.

There is evidence from multiple studies that dysregulation of the Eyes Absent (EYA) protein plays multiple roles in many cancers. Despite this, little is known about the prognostic significance of the EYAs family in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). We systematically analyzed the value of EYAs in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is considered as one of the most promising biomaterials for bone reconstruction. This study generated a functional molybdenum disulfide (MoS )/polydopamine (PDA)/-bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2)-insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) coating on the β-TCP scaffold and analyzed the outcomes. The MoS /PDA-BMP2-IGF-1@β-TCP (MPBI@β-TCP) scaffold was prepared by 3D printing and physical adsorption, followed by characterization to validate its successful construction.

Thoracic Surgery, Gansu Provincial Cancer Hospital, Lanzhou, Gansu Province, 730050, China.

Objective: In recent years, with the attention of the general people to health, the surgical treatment of small nodules has become necessary. However, some nodules are too small, too deep, or difficult to reach, and it is difficult to accurately locate small nodules in the process of routine resection. In order to solve this problem and increase the success rate of puncture surgery, this study analyzed the application value of zoning localization method guided by CT in patients with pulmonary nodules.

Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a serious disease with high fatality rates, and the tumor suppressor TSPYL2's role in CRC is not well understood.
  • Research found that in drug-resistant CRC tissues, TSPYL2 is downregulated while SIRT1 is upregulated, leading to enhanced resistance to the drug gefitinib (GEF).
  • TSPYL2 appears to reduce GEF resistance and DNA damage repair in CRC by inhibiting SIRT1's effect on FOXO3, suggesting that TSPYL2 could be a potential target for CRC therapy.
