Most of the studies on subjective well-being have focused on positive emotions. The adverse effect of negative emotions on mental health has been overlooked. This study investigates the extent to which specific life perceptions are associated with emotional profiles, and explores relevant factors that effectively enhance subjective well-being.

Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taipei University, 151, University Rd., Sanxia District, New Taipei City, 237 Taiwan.

According to the educational regulations in Taiwan, students are required to learn English when they are at the first grade of elementary school. However, not all the students have an appropriate environment to practice English, especially, for those students whose school is not located in the city. Thus, their English abilities in speaking, reading, and listening are poor.

Di-(2-propylheptyl) phthalate (DPHP) is an alternative plasticizer that can replace other phthalates currently being scrutinized, and its use and production volumes are increasing. This study aimed to develop a high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS)-based metabolomics strategy to comprehensively screen urinary biomarkers of DPHP exposure and filter out potentially useful DPHP exposure markers for human exposure assessments. This strategy included three stages: screening of biomarkers, verification of dose-response relationships in laboratory animals, and application in human subjects.

Profiling and comparison of toxicant metabolites in hair and urine using a mass spectrometry-based metabolomic data processing method.

Anal Chim Acta

April 2019

Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, 138 Sheng-Li Road, Tainan 704, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Urine and hair are used for assessing human exposure to toxicants. Urine tests can show acute toxicant exposure. Hair analysis can be used to determine chronic toxicant exposure after months to years; however, compared to urine, hair analysis in exposure assessments is much less frequently investigated.

Objective: Given previous research examining the relationship between physical activity (PA) and working memory in children has not taken into account of potentially confounders, this study specifically controlled for the effects of intelligence and fitness-related factors (i.e., aerobic and motor fitness) on this relationship.

Di(isononyl)cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylate (DINCH) is a plasticizer used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products, such as toys and food packaging. Because the use of DINCH is on the rise, the risk of human exposure to this chemical may likewise increase. Discovering markers for assessing human chemical exposure is difficult because the metabolism of chemicals within humans is complex.

Di-(2-propylheptyl) phthalate (DPHP) is a plasticizer used in polyvinyl chloride and vinyl chloride copolymer that has been suggested to be a toxicant in rats and may affect human health. Because the use of DPHP is increasing, the general German population is being exposed to DPHP. Toxicant metabolism is important for human toxicant exposure assessments.

The novelty of this study is to rapidly reduce hazardous lead leachates from solid waste using microwave digestion treatment, which is an energy-saving and low greenhouse gas emission technology. The article presents the reduction of toxic characteristic leaching procedure-extractable lead concentration in the municipal solid waste incineration fly ash by the microwave digestion treatment in HNO3/H2SO4 combination, and focuses on the effects of treatment time and temperature. The results obtained from this study indicated a significant reduction efficiency of toxic characteristic leaching procedure-extractable lead concentration and showed sufficient reduction in leaching levels to render the treated fly ash safe in lead compound leaching characteristics.

Risk assessment and loading capacity of reclaimed wastewater to be reused for agricultural irrigation.

Environ Monit Assess

July 2008

Department of Environment and Property Management, Jinwen University of Science and Technology, 99 An-Chung Road, Sindien, Taipei County, Taiwan, Republic of China.

The reuse of treated municipal wastewater should be one of the new water resource target areas. The suitability of the reuse of wastewater for agricultural irrigation has to consider health risk, soil contamination and the influence of the reclaimed water on crop growth. In this work the aim is to use quantitative risk analysis to assess the health effects related to reclaimed water quality and to calculate the loading capacity of reclaimed wastewater in terms of the heavy metal accumulation.

An evaluation of the phosphorus storage capacity of an anaerobic/aerobic sequential batch biofilm reactor.

Bioresour Technol

July 2008

Department of Environmental and Property Management, Jinwen University of Science and Technology, 99 An-Chung Road, Sindien, Taipei County, Taiwan.

The aim of this work was to assess the phosphorus storage capability of the polyphosphate (poly-P) accumulating organisms (PAO) in the biofilm using a sequential batch biofilm reactor (SBBR). In the anaerobic phase, the specific COD uptake rates increases from 0.05 to 0.
