Degenerative rotator cuff tendinopathy (RCT) is a chronic tendon disease caused by degeneration and inflammation, which often affects the elderly population. Mesenchymal stem cell senescence is generally recognized as an important pathophysiological mechanism in many age-related skeletal diseases. Herein, we collected human tendon-derived stem/progenitor cells (TSPCs) from degenerative supraspinatus tendons and found that TSPC senescence is closely related to RCT.

Directed differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) toward chondrogenesis plays a predominant role in cartilage repair. However, the uncontrolled inflammatory response to implants is found to impair the stability of scaffolds and the cartilage regeneration outcome. Herein, we fabricated an injectable hydrogel crosslinked by strontium-doped bioglass (SrBG) to modulate both human BMSC (hBMSC) differentiation and the inflammatory response.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease affecting the elderly, but there is no blood test for PD diagnosis in the clinic currently. This study aimed to explore promising biomarkers in platelets (PLTs) for PD diagnosis.
Methods: PLTs were isolated from whole blood samples of PD patients and healthy controls (HCs), and RNA was extracted for sequencing.
It has been reported that circNF1, a type of circular RNA (circRNA), promotes gastric cancer. This study aimed to analyze the role of circNF1 in glioblastoma (GBM). The expression of circNF1, mature miR-340, and miR-340 precursor in paired GBM and non-cancer tissues from GBM patients ( = 50) was analyzed by RT-qPCR.

Background: Rotator cuff tear (RCT) is a common problem of the musculoskeletal system. With the advantage of promoting bone formation, calcium phosphate materials have been widely used to augment tendon-bone healing. However, only enhancing bone regeneration may be not enough for improving tendon-bone healing.

Background: Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a severe and heterogeneous chorioretinal disorder. Shared clinical manifestations between CSC and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and the confirmation of CFH as genetic risk locus for both CSC and AMD suggest possible common pathophysiologic mechanisms between two diseases.
Methods: To advance the understanding of genetic susceptibility of CSC and further investigate genetic pleiotropy between CSC and AMD, we performed genetic association analysis of 38 AMD-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a Chinese CSC cohort, consisting of 464 patients and 548 matched healthy controls.
Background: Chronic rotator cuff (RC) tendinopathy is one of the most prevalent causes of shoulder pain. Growing evidence suggests that macrophages play a significant role in the proinflammatory response, resolution of inflammation, and tissue healing of tendinopathy. In particular, enhancement of M2 macrophage (M2φ) activity contributes to the accelerated healing of tendinopathy.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease in the older adults. Although much effort has been made in the analyses of diagnostic biomarkers, such as amyloid-β, tau, and neurofilament light chain, identifying peripheral blood-based biomarkers is in extremely urgent need for their minimal invasiveness and more convenience. Here we characterized the miRNA profile by RNA sequencing in human serum exosomes from AD patients and healthy controls (HC) to investigate its potential for AD diagnosis.

T-cell exhaustion is one of the hallmarks in cancer, but the mechanisms underlying T-cell dysregulation remains unclear. Here, we reported that down-regulation of transcription factor EOMES contributed to increased levels of inhibitory receptors in T cell among the tumour tissues and resulted in the poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). By analysing the correlation between EOMES in tumour-infiltrating T cells and the clinical features, we demonstrated that the EOMES was related to the advanced stage and poor prognosis of HCC.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between clinicopathological characteristics of atypical meningiomas (AM) and its post-operative recurrence. The clinicopathological characteristics and findings from follow up were retrospectively reviewed and compared between AM and benign meningioma (BM) patients. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to identify the factors related to the post-operative recurrence of AM.

Background: Personalized prediction of the risk of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) after stroke thrombolysis is clinically useful. Machine-learning-based modeling may provide the personalized prediction of the risk of sICH after stroke thrombolysis.
Methods: We identified 2578 thrombolysis-treated ischemic stroke patients between January 2013 and December 2016 from a multicenter database, where 70% were used to train models and the remaining 30% were used as the nominal test sets.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine whether any salient differences exist in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) between premenopausal and postmenopausal patients by comprehensively comparing the ultrasound (US) and clinicopathologic features of these patients.
Methods: A detailed evaluation of the US and clinicopathologic features of 60 tumors from 60 patients with a diagnosis of TNBC (36 premenopausal and 24 postmenopausal women) was conducted in this retrospective study.
Results: Triple-negative breast cancer in premenopausal patients was more likely to show a round or oval shape and microlobulated margins, more commonly exerted effects on surrounding tissue, and showed grade 3 blood flow according to the method of Adler et al (Ultrasound Med Biol 1990; 16:553-559) compared with tumors in postmenopausal women.

Luteolin, a polyphenolic flavone, has been demonstrated to exert anti-tumor activity in various cancer types. Cisplatin drug resistance is a major obstacle in the management of ovarian cancer. In the present study, we investigated the chemo-sensitizing effect of luteolin in both cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cell line and a mice xenotransplant model.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinicopathological and ultrasound characteristics of triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) and compare these findings with those for hormone receptor-positive (HR-positive)/human epidermal growth factor receptor-2-negative (HER-2-negative) tumors. Seventy-five TNBCs and 135 HR-positive/HER-2-negative breast cancers were reviewed. Data from conventional ultrasound, Doppler vascularity and elastography were included in the analysis.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical value of ultrasound (US) features of breast lesions for predicting the risk of axillary lymph node metastasis in patients with breast cancer.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 425 patients with breast cancer were recruited, and their preoperative US features and postoperative pathologic results were collected. The association of these US features of breast cancer with axillary lymph node metastasis was determined by univariate and multivariate analyses.
