Stress Induces Prolonged Pain Recovery After Surgery: Involvement of Glucocorticoid-Related Pathway.

Int J Neuropsychopharmacol

April 2023

Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Key Laboratory of Clinical Cancer Pharmacology and Toxicology Research of Zhejiang Province, Affiliated Hangzhou First People's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Background: Increasing evidence suggests that chronic stress increases pain sensitivity and exacerbates existing pain. However, whether and how chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) affects surgical pain is unclear.

Methods: A postsurgical pain model was performed by longitudinal incision from 0.

Drug resistance has become an obstacle to the further development of immunotherapy in clinical applications and experimental studies. In the current review, the acquired resistance to immunotherapy was examined. The mechanisms of acquired resistance were based on three aspects as follows: The change of the tumor functions, the upregulated expression of inhibitory immune checkpoint proteins, and the effects of the tumor microenvironment.

Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4)-dependent cAMP signaling plays a crucial role in cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, whether inhibition of PDE4 subtypes or their splice variants in the prefrontal cortex positively regulates synaptic plasticity and antioxidative stress, and reverses β-amyloid 1-42 (Aβ1-42, Aβ42)-induced cognitive impairment still need to be clarified. The present study determined whether and how PDE4D knockdown by microinjection of lenti-PDE4D-miRNA into the prefrontal cortex reversed Aβ1-42-induced cognitive impairment in behavioral, neurochemical, and molecular biology assays.

CD47 blockade enhances therapeutic efficacy of cisplatin against lung carcinoma in a murine model.

Exp Cell Res

August 2021

Department of Anesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200092, China. Electronic address:

Cisplatin (CDDP) is the first generation of platinum-based drug and is widely used to treat many cancers due to its potency. The present study aims to explore the effects of CDDP on lung carcinoma and its relationship with macrophage phagocytosis. In in vitro study, murine and human lung cancer cell lines were applied and treated with CDDP, CD47 antibody (aCD47), or CDDP plus aCD47.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a new infectious respiratory disease, which has caused a pandemic that has become the world's leading public health emergency, threatening people of all ages worldwide, especially the elderly. Complications of COVID-19 are closely related to an upregulation of the inflammatory response revealed by the pro-inflammatory profile of plasma cytokines (to the point of causing a cytokine storm), which is also a contributing cause of the associated coagulation disorders with venous and arterial thromboembolisms, causing multiple organ dysfunction and failure. In severe fulminant cases of COVID-19, there is an activation of coagulation and consumption of clotting factors leading to a deadly disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

The purpose of this study was to evaluate related risk factors for gallstone disease in Shanghai. We analyzed successive physical examinations of 2288 adults who were recruited at the Jinshan Branch of the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai and Jinshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University Hospital from July 2010 to December 2012. The odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to measure the influence factors on the risks of gallstone development.

In vivo investigation of tissue-engineered periosteum for the repair of allogeneic critical size bone defects in rabbits.

Regen Med

April 2017

Orthopaedic Department, Jinshan Branch of the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 201500, China.

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of tissue-engineered periosteum (TEP) in repairing allogenic bone defects in the long term.

Materials & Methods: TEP was biofabricated with osteoinduced rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS). A total of 24 critical sized defects were created bilaterally in radii of 12 New Zealand White rabbits.

The present study aimed to identify genes and microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) that were abnormally expressed in the vastus lateralis muscle of patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). The gene expression profile of GSE10828 was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, and this dataset was comprised of 4 samples from patients with AECOPD and 5 samples from patients with stable COPD. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened using the Limma package in R.

Orthopaedic Department, Jinshan Branch of the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 201500, China.

This study was aimed to evaluate in vitro bioactivity of tissue-engineered periosteum (TEP) which was fabricated by coupling either rabbits' MSCs or osteodifferentiated MSCs (O-MSCs) with porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS), and that produced two kinds of TEPs (M1=MSCs+SIS and M2=Osteoblast+SIS). The cell adherence was observed under scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Cell proliferation was measured by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl]-2,5-diphenyl-2 H-tetrazoliumbromide (MTT) test.

Acceleration of biliary cholesterol secretion restores glycemic control and alleviates hypertriglyceridemia in obese db/db mice.

From the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate Center for Nutritional Sciences and Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, University of Kentucky, Lexington (K.S., Y.W., X.L., J.D.L., G.A.G.); Department of Neuroscience, Universidad Central del Caribe, Bayamon, Puerto Rico (N.S.S.); Department of Molecular Genetics, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas (J.L.); and Department of Clinical Laboratories, Jinshan Branch of the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai, Shanghai, China (S.L.).

Objective: Recent studies support a role for cholesterol in the development of obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Mice lacking the ABCG5 ABCG8 (G5G8) sterol transporter have reduced biliary cholesterol secretion and are more susceptible to steatosis, hepatic insulin resistance, and loss of glycemic control when challenged with a high-fat diet. We hypothesized that accelerating G5G8-mediated biliary cholesterol secretion would correct these phenotypes in obese mice.

February 2013

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Jinshan Branch of the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 201500;

Abnormalities in the Notch signaling system are considered to play a role in the tumorigenesis of bronchiogenic carcinoma. The present study aimed to investigate the expression of Notch3 in adult lung cancer patients and its role in the pathogenesis of primary bronchiogenic carcinoma. The expression of the Notch3 protein in lung squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, small cell carcinoma and corresponding non-tumor tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry.
