Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are an emerging field of interest in many diseases. Some of the miRNAs have been reported to be expressed differentially in diseased states of pregnancy. The current study was designed to measure and compare the levels of microRNA 182-3-p, 519-d-5p, and 378-3p and it was hypothesized that the microRNA 182-3-p, 519-d-5p, and 378-3p can be used as a non-invasive predictor of preeclampsia.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTay-Sachs disease (TSD) is a rare, fatal neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the deficiency of the enzyme hexosaminidase-A (Hex A), which results in the accumulation of monosialoganglioside2 (GM2) ganglioside within nerve cells, predominantly affecting individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. We report a remarkable case of a three-year-old South Asian male with infantile GM2 gangliosidosis, compounded by bronchopneumonia, a rarely documented complication in Tay-Sachs patients. The Society of Surgeons of Pakistan and The Society of Surgical Oncology of Pakistan with factions from various major centres comprising of surgical oncology, medical and radiation oncology collaborated to reach consensus on breast cancer management guidelines and a framework of "good practice" minimum standards of care. The aim of the task force was to enhance treatment standards, which have a direct correlation with improving patient mortality and morbidity and long-term survival whilst taking into consideration economic limitations of access to leading centers of excellence as well as minimum expertise required in health care. These multidisciplinary guidelines, whilst not exhaustive, aim to provide an algorithm of care for breast cancer patients at tertiary care centres and district level hospitals to provide most appropriate treatment.

Due to hormonal variations, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains prevalent in women and affects almost half of the heart failure (HF) patients. Given the yearly death rate of 10-30% and the unavailability of medications targeting HFpEF, the need arises for a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of this syndrome. This comprehensive review explores sex-specific differences in traditional risk factors; female-specific factors that may impact HFpEF development and response to therapy, including variations in hormone levels that may occur pre- and post-menopausal or during pregnancy; and disparities in comorbidities, clinical presentation, and diagnostic challenges.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a severe and potentially life-threatening infection of the soft tissues that involves the skin, subcutaneous fat, fascia, and muscle. It can rapidly spread and lead to tissue death, sepsis, toxic shock syndrome, cardiopulmonary failure, and even death, especially in patients with chronic diseases, immunocompromised status, or immobility. To control the spread of necrosis, prompt diagnosis and aggressive surgical intervention with radical debridement of the affected tissues are essential, along with the administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics and intensive care support, when required.
