Article Synopsis
  • Severe cytokine release syndrome (sCRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) hinder the use of CAR T-cell therapy, prompting researchers to develop a new CAR (ssCART-19) that incorporates shRNA to target the IL-6 gene.
  • In a study involving 87 patients with relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, ssCART-19 demonstrated significantly lower rates of grade ≥3 CRS (14.89%) and ICANS (4.26%) compared to conventional CAR T-cells (cCART-19) which had rates of 37.5% and 15%, respectively.
  • Overall response rates and survival metrics were comparable

We aim to examine the association between liver function-related indicators and gallstone disease (GSD) risk. The subjects who participated in the China Multicenter Physical Examination Cohort (CMPEC) were enrolled. Relative odds ratios (ORs) with 95% CIs and standardized mean differences (SMDs) were applied to investigate the effect of liver function-related indicators and GSD risk.

Objective: To determine the clinical value of ultrasound in assessing cervical lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

Methods: The medical records of 179 PTC patients treated in Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital between March 2016 and March 2019 were collected. The patients were assigned to a transfer group (54 cases) and a non-transfer group (125 cases) according to their pathologic results.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a progressive systemic disease characterized by chronic inflammation response of the sacroiliac joint and spine. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are widely involved in the regulation of various diseases. However, the role of lncRNA maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) in the inflammatory response of AS has not been studied.

The miR-200 family suppresses epithelial-mesenchymal transition by inhibiting ZEB1 and ZEB2 mRNA translation in several types of cancers. Kindlin-2 is a target gene of miR-200b and its expression level correlates positively to ZEB2 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Whether Kindlin-2 and ZEB2 share a competitive endogenous RNAs regulatory network in OSCC remains unclear.

Background: LncRNAs and miRNAs are found to play crucial roles in the tumorigenesis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We aimed to investigate the functions and mechanisms of lncRNA-CAT104 and miR-182 in AML.

Methods: Expression of CAT104, miR-182, and ZEB1 in K562 and HL60 cell lines was respectively or synchronously altered by transfection.

Excessive consumption of diets high in sugars and saturated fat, frequently known as western diet (WD), may lead to obesity and metabolic syndrome. Recent evidence shows that WD-induced obesity impairs cardiac function, but the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a gut microbiota-dependent metabolite of specific dietary nutrients, has emerged as a key contributor to cardiovascular disease pathogenesis.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke has been recognized as one key cause of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between carotid artery stenosis and post VCI in acute ischemic stroke patients.

Methods: In this study, B-mode ultrasound was applied to measure the degree of carotid artery stenosis.

A family of small non-coding RNAs, ~22 nt in length, known as microRNAs (miRNAs), regulating ~30% of all human gene expression, have been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of a number of types of cancers, including non-small cell carcinoma lung cancer (NSCLC). P21-activated protein kinase 1 (PAK1) is a clinical biomarker of Non-small carcinoma lung cancer. Here, we found that miR-98 is down-regulated, whereas PAK1 is highly expressed in NSCLC tissues and cells.

Activation of SHH signaling pathway promotes vasculogenesis in post-myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol

October 2016

Department of Cardiology, Affiliated Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, Medical College of Qingdao University Yantai 264000, Shandong Province, China.

This study aimed to investigate the potential roles of sonic Hedgehog (SHH) expression in vasculogenesis in post-myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury (MIRI) and its underlying mechanism. Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) isolated from the SD rat hearts tissues were used to construct the MIRI model. mRNA level of SHH in control cells and MIRI cells was detected using RT-PCR analysis.

miR-98 suppresses tumor cell growth and metastasis by targeting IGF1R in oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol

December 2016

Department of Endodontics, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Wenzhou Medical University Wenzhou, 325000, PR China.

Increasing evidences indicate that dysregulation of miRNAs contributes to the pathogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, little is known about the potential role of miR-98 in OSCC. Here, we found that miR-98 was downregulated in OSCC tissues and cell lines.

Unlabelled: In primary care medicine, establishing a diagnosis of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections is usually based on clinical history and physical examination as well as a consideration of time of the year and circulating respiratory viruses in the community.

Methods: We tested the potential clinical samples using the automated molecular assay which included rapid influenza diagnostic test, Rapid Immunochromatographic Antigen Test, Verigene Respiratory Virus Plus Nucleic Acid Test, BD Veritor(TM) System for Rapid Detection of RSV in the paediatric setting for diagnosis of influenza and respiratory syntactical virus infections when testing was done by the paediatrician seeing the patient.

Results: Principally, with respect influenza virus specificity and sensitivity for RIAT were 100% and 68.

Sevoflurane and propofol are widely used in pediatric anesthesia. Neurotoxicity of sevoflurane and propofol in developing brain has been reported and these effects raise concerns on the usage of the drugs. We investigated the influence of rutin, a flavonoid on the neurodegenerative effects of sevoflurane and propofol and on memory and cognition in neonatal rodent model.

Objective: Aqueous extract of Caesalpinia sappan (CSE) has immunosuppressive activities, but the mechanism remains unknown. This study was to investigate the effect of CSE on the balance between CD4(+) CD25(+) T cells and Th17 cells.

Methods: Allografted Balb/c recipients were intraperitoneally treated with CSE for 14 continuous days, and the graft survival was observed.

Metabolic alkalosis commonly results from excessive hydrochloric acid (HCl), potassium (K(+)) and water (H2O) loss from the stomach or through the urine. The plasma anion gap increases in non-hypoproteinemic metabolic alkalosis due to an increased negative charge equivalent on albumin and the free ionized calcium (Ca(++)) content of plasma decreases. The mean citrate load in all patients was 8740±7027 mg from 6937±6603 mL of transfused blood products.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains the main cause of cancer mortality, accounts for 90% of oral cancers. Increasing evidence reveals that aberrant expression of microRNA contributes to the development and progression of OSCC, but the roles of microRNA-506 (miR-506) in OSCC remain elusive. Here, we found that the expression of miR-506 was decreased in 21 OSCC tissues and SCC-4 and SCC-9 cells.
