Liver injury-induced activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) is a crucial step in the progression of liver fibrosis. The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a ligand-activated transcription factor, is highly expressed in the liver. However, the role of AHR in liver fibrosis remains controversial.

Background: Natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a dismal prognosis, and gaps remain in understanding the determinants influencing disease outcomes.
Objective: To characterise the gut microbiota feature and identify potential probiotics that could ameliorate the development of NKTCL.
Design: This cross-sectional study employed shotgun metagenomic sequencing to profile the gut microbiota in two Chinese NKTCL cohorts, with validation conducted in an independent Korean cohort.

Background: Enhancer of zeste 2 polycomb repressive complex 2 subunit (EZH2) is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma, promoting tumorigenesis and correlating with poor prognosis. Traditional histopathological examinations are insufficient to accurately predict hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) survival; however, pathomics models can predict EZH2 expression and HCC prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pathomics features and EZH2 expression for predicting overall survival of patients with HCC.

Backgrounds: Given the global prevalence of colorectal cancer (CRC), advancements in prompt and accurate diagnosis are crucial. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in serum exosomes are emerging as potential diagnostic biomarkers. This study evaluated the feasibility of using serum exosomal lncRNAs for early-stage CRC diagnosis in clinical practice.

In this study, a novel hierarchical pore MIL-101(Cr) foam (HPF-MIL-101) was designed and prepared using the sacrificial template method with NaCl as the sacrificial template. This method involved grinding, heating, and washing the NaCl template to produce HPF-MIL-101, with PVDF as the binder and MIL-101(Cr) as the adsorbent. This preparation process is both straightforward and cost-effective, avoiding the use or generation of any organic reagents, thereby offering an environmentally sustainable approach for producing metal-organic framework (MOF) composites.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the cyclical "on-off" flow of pulmonary microcirculation during inspiration and expiration by sidestream dark field imaging (SDF) technology in vivo and investigate the effects of volume status and driving pressure on cyclical "on-off" flow of microcirculation.
Methods: 24 ARDS-modeled rabbits were randomly divided into high-driving pressure group (HDP group) and low-driving pressure group (LDP group). Lung microcirculation measurements were performed using the SDF microscope at two timepoints (T1 CVP 2-4 mmHg, T2 CVP 8-10 mmHg).

Background: Perfectionism is a pivotal factor in the etiology and prognosis of major depression. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of longitudinal research examining the association between perfectionism and major depressive disorder (MDD). The objective of this study was to explore the impact of perfectionism on MDD among a cohort of first-year Chinese university students.

Background: Sulfotransferase family 2B member 1 (SULT2B1) is involved in regulating cell proliferation, migration and metabolism. However, there is still dispute regarding whether SULT2B1 acts as an oncogene or a suppressor, and the intrinsic mechanisms in modulating tumor progression need to be further elucidated.
Methods: This work aims to reveal the relationship among SULT2B1, AKT, PKM2 signaling and glycolytic pathways, and provided a theoretical basis for SULT2B1 as a potential therapeutic target for CRC.

The defense mechanisms of the vertebrate brain against infections are at the forefront of immunological studies. Unlike other body parts, the brain not only fends off pathogenic infections but also minimizes the risk of self-damage from immune cell induced inflammation. Some neuropeptides produced by either nerve or immune cells share remarkable similarities with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in terms of size, structure, amino acid composition, amphiphilicity, and net cationic charge.

Background: Esophageal carcinoma (ESCA) ranks among the most prevalent malignant tumors globally. Despite significant advancements in treatment options and improved patient outcomes, the 5-year survival rate remains unsatisfactory. The spindle and kinetochore associated complex subunit 1/2/3 (SKA1/2/3) attached to the kinetochore (KT) in the metaphase of mitosis are implicated in the occurrence and development of various tumors.

Graphene oxide‑gold nanocomposites (GO-AuNCPs) are promising candidates in nanomedicine. They will inevitably bind with biomolecules such as serum albumin (SA) in the body while they enter the organism. The interaction between GO-AuNCPs and human serum albumin (HSA)/bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated by using multispectroscopic methods, elucidating the binding principles through molecular simulations.

Currently, the diagnosis of delirium is solely based on clinical observation, lacking objective diagnostic tools, and the regulatory networks and pathological mechanisms behind it are not yet fully understood. Exosomes have garnered considerable interest as potential biomarkers for a variety of illnesses. This research aimed to delineate both the proteomic and metabolomic landscapes inherent to exosomes, assessing their diagnostic utility in postoperative delirium (POD) and understanding the underlying pathophysiological frameworks.

Drug and toxin-related deaths are common worldwide, making it essential to detect the postmortem concentration of various toxic substances at different stages of decomposition in a corpse. Indeed, determining the postmortem interval (PMI) and cause of death in an advanced stage of decomposed corpses has been a significant challenge in forensic investigations. Notably, the presence of drugs or toxins can have a significant impact on the microbial profile, potentially altering the succession of microbial communities and subsequent production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which, in turn, affect insect colonization patterns.

Sappanone A (SAP), a high-isoflavone compound derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Sumu, exhibits various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. However, its protective effects on the liver have rarely been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of SAP on immune-mediated liver injury induced by concanavalin A (Con A) in mice and to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms.
