Porous scaffolds fabricated with nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) and chitosan (CTS), are widely used in bone tissue engineering (BTE). However, cell adhesion is relatively poor in nHA/CTS scaffolds, which also do not provide an ideal three-dimensional environment for seed cells. These deficiencies limit the applicability of these BTE scaffolds to repair bone defects.

Let-7d miRNA prevents TGF-β1-induced EMT and renal fibrogenesis through regulation of HMGA2 expression.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

October 2016

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. Electronic address:

TGF-β1-induced epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) process of tubular epithelial cells plays a leading role in the occurrence and progression of renal fibrosis as seen in diabetic nephropathy (DN). High mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2) is considered to be involved in TGF-β1-mediated EMT via multifactorial mechanisms. Specific microRNAs (miRNAs) are closely associated with EMT, and here we focused on let-7d miRNA as a regulator of HMGA2.

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis‑inducing ligand (TRAIL) is expressed in ovarian tissue and is widely thought to exhibit strong antitumor activity in a variety of tumor cell types. Therefore, we hypothesized that the cisplatin resistance of ovarian cancer is linked to the ability to escape from TRAIL-mediated apoptosis. We demonstrated that cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3/DDP tolerated treatment with TRAIL, in contrast to the cisplatin‑sensitive ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3.

Background: The chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) is widely used for the quantitative determination of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) in human ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid plasma. Rheumatoid factor (RF) is usually thought to result in a positive interference in immunoassays, but it is not clear whether its presence in plasma can lead to interferences in the CMIA of BNP.

Methods: The estimation of BNP recovery was carried out by diluting high-concentration BNP samples with RF-positive or RF-negative plasma at a ratio of 1:9.
