Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major health issue, especially in patients with coexisting coronary artery disease (CAD). Patients with insulin-treated T2DM (ITDM) have worse outcomes than those with non-insulin-treated T2DM. Very few studies have compared short-term to long-term adverse cardiovascular outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients on insulin therapy.

Porous scaffolds fabricated with nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) and chitosan (CTS), are widely used in bone tissue engineering (BTE). However, cell adhesion is relatively poor in nHA/CTS scaffolds, which also do not provide an ideal three-dimensional environment for seed cells. These deficiencies limit the applicability of these BTE scaffolds to repair bone defects.

The cure of acute leukemia by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is closely linked to major complications leading to adverse outcomes, including graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), disease relapse and death. This study retrospectively investigated a consecutive series of 312 adult patients with acute leukemia receiving allo-HSCT by using a novel concept of GVHD-free/relapse-free survival (GRFS), and further evaluated the impact of clinical factors on GRFS. Results indicated that the 1- and 2-year GRFS were 54.

TGF-β1-induced epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) process of tubular epithelial cells plays a leading role in the occurrence and progression of renal fibrosis as seen in diabetic nephropathy (DN). High mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2) is considered to be involved in TGF-β1-mediated EMT via multifactorial mechanisms. Specific microRNAs (miRNAs) are closely associated with EMT, and here we focused on let-7d miRNA as a regulator of HMGA2.

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis‑inducing ligand (TRAIL) is expressed in ovarian tissue and is widely thought to exhibit strong antitumor activity in a variety of tumor cell types. Therefore, we hypothesized that the cisplatin resistance of ovarian cancer is linked to the ability to escape from TRAIL-mediated apoptosis. We demonstrated that cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3/DDP tolerated treatment with TRAIL, in contrast to the cisplatin‑sensitive ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3.

Background: The chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) is widely used for the quantitative determination of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) in human ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid plasma. Rheumatoid factor (RF) is usually thought to result in a positive interference in immunoassays, but it is not clear whether its presence in plasma can lead to interferences in the CMIA of BNP.
Methods: The estimation of BNP recovery was carried out by diluting high-concentration BNP samples with RF-positive or RF-negative plasma at a ratio of 1:9.

Background: Genetic variations in the engulfment and cell motility 1 (ELMO1) gene have recently been identified to be associated with nephropathy attributed to Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Since T2DM-associated complications are proved to be more common among Asians than Western individuals, and Chinese people have a high incidence of diabetic nephropathy (DN), this study sought to analyze the association of ELMO1 gene polymorphisms with DN to probe into the effects of ELMO1 gene on susceptibility of DN in Chinese population.
Methods: We genotyped 6 polymorphism sites of ELMO1 gene in 200 unrelated Chinese subjects (123 T2DM with DN case subjects and 77 T2DM without DN control subjects).
