Sci Rep

December 2024

School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Yangtze University, Jingzhou, 434100, Hubei, China.

Emotions play a crucial role in human thoughts, cognitive processes, and decision-making. EEG has become a widely utilized tool in emotion recognition due to its high temporal resolution, real-time monitoring capabilities, portability, and cost-effectiveness. In this paper, we propose a novel end-to-end emotion recognition method from EEG signals, called MSDCGTNet, which is based on the Multi-Scale Dynamic 1D CNN and the Gated Transformer.

Front Immunol

October 2024

Department of Hubei Provincial Clinical Research Center for Personalized Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer, The First Affiliated Hospital of Yangtze University, Jingzhou First People's Hospital, Jingzhou, Hubei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between diabetes, particularly focusing on the gene WFS1, and endometrial cancer (EC) outcomes.
  • Researchers found WFS1 expression to be significantly lower in EC patients, indicating it may serve as a diagnostic and prognostic marker.
  • Low WFS1 levels are linked to worse prognosis, increased tumor malignancy, and resistance to treatment, highlighting its potential role in assessing cancer risk in diabetic patients.

The basic biology of NK cells and its application in tumor immunotherapy.

Front Immunol

September 2024

Department of General Medicine, Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Tongji Shanxi Hospital, Taiyuan, China.

Natural Killer (NK) cells play a crucial role as effector cells within the tumor immune microenvironment, capable of identifying and eliminating tumor cells through the expression of diverse activating and inhibitory receptors that recognize tumor-related ligands. Therefore, harnessing NK cells for therapeutic purposes represents a significant adjunct to T cell-based tumor immunotherapy strategies. Presently, NK cell-based tumor immunotherapy strategies encompass various approaches, including adoptive NK cell therapy, cytokine therapy, antibody-based NK cell therapy (enhancing ADCC mediated by NK cells, NK cell engagers, immune checkpoint blockade therapy) and the utilization of nanoparticles and small molecules to modulate NK cell anti-tumor functionality.

Noninvasive prediction of CCL2 expression level in high-grade glioma patients.

Cancer Med

July 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, The Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Zhejiang Cancer Hospital), Institute of Basic Medicine and Cancer (IBMC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou, People's Republic of China.

Background: Gliomas are recognized as the most frequent type of malignancies in the central nervous system, and efficacious prognostic indicators are essential to treat patients with gliomas and improve their clinical outcomes. The chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2) is a promising predictor for glioma malignancy and progression. However, at present, the methods to evaluate CCL2 expression level are invasive and operator-dependent.

Objective: Gliomas are a heterogeneous group of brain tumors with distinct biological and clinical properties, leading to significant mortality and morbidity. Emerging evidence shows telomere maintenance has implicated in glioma susceptibility and prognosis. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed gene signatures related to telomere maintenance in glioma and their predictive values for predicting the prognosis and drug sensitivity in glioma.

Aberrant dynamic functional network connectivity in type 2 diabetes mellitus individuals.

Cogn Neurodyn

December 2023

Department of Radiology and Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC USA.

An increasing number of recent brain imaging studies are dedicated to understanding the neuro mechanism of cognitive impairment in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) individuals. In contrast to efforts to date that are limited to static functional connectivity, here we investigate abnormal connectivity in T2DM individuals by characterizing the time-varying properties of brain functional networks. Using group independent component analysis (GICA), sliding-window analysis, and k-means clustering, we extracted thirty-one intrinsic connectivity networks (ICNs) and estimated four recurring brain states.

Thrombocytopenia is one of the most common hematological adverse reactions in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) therapy, causing life-threatening bleeding cases. However, there are fewer therapeutic drugs for TKI-induced thrombocytopenia. Eltrombopag is a non-peptide thrombopoietin receptor agonist used for the treatment of immune thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, and hepatitis C-associated thrombocytopenia.

Accurate and rapid segmentation of the lumen in an aortic dissection (AD) is an important prerequisite for risk evaluation and medical planning for patients with this serious condition. Although some recent studies have pioneered technical advances for the challenging AD segmentation task, they generally neglect the intimal flap structure that separates the true and false lumens. Identification and segmentation of the intimal flap may simplify AD segmentation, and the incorporation of long-distance z axis information interaction along the curved aorta may improve segmentation accuracy.

Diabetes mellitus and endometrial carcinoma: Risk factors and etiological links.

Medicine (Baltimore)

August 2022

Department of Clinical Medical Research Center for Personalized Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer, The First Affiliated Hospital of Yangtze University, Jingzhou First People's Hospital, Jingzhou, Hubei, China.

The presence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has a critical influence on the occurrence and development of endometrial cancer (EC) and is associated with a poor prognosis. Patients with DM are twice as likely to progress to EC, probably because a high-glucose environment contributes to the growth and invasiveness of EC cells. In this review, we focus on the etiological links between DM and EC and provide an overview of potential biological mechanisms that may account for this relationship, including hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, glycolysis, chronic inflammation, obesity, and activation of signaling pathways involved in EC.

CaMKII inhibition protects against hyperthyroid arrhythmias and adverse myocardial remodeling.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

July 2022

Department of Cardiology, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430022, China. Electronic address:

Hyperthyroidism can potentiate arrhythmias and cardiac hypertrophy, whereas Ca/calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII) promotes maladaptive myocardial remodeling. However, it remains unclear whether CaMKII contributes to the progression of hyperthyroid heart disease (HHD). This study demonstrated that CaMKII inhibition can relieve adverse myocardial remodeling and reduce sinus tachycardia, isoproterenol-induced atrial fibrillation, and ventricular arrhythmias in hyperthyroid mice with preserved heart function.

F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of Takayasu arteritis: A case report.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2022

Department of Medical Imaging, Department of Medicine, Yangtze University, Jingzhou City.

The early clinical symptoms of Takayasu arteritis (TAK) are nonspecific and often lead to misdiagnosis or delay in diagnosis. And by the time morphological changes are observed on the images, the disease is in an advanced stage and irreversible vascular injuries has occurred. Therefore, early correct diagnosis and timely systemic anti-inflammatory treatment can effectively improve the clinical situation.
