Primary analysis of the open-label, single-arm, phase II RENMIN-215 trial (primary data cutoff date: July 10, 2023) showed promising efficacy and tolerable safety with tislelizumab plus fruquintinib and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in patients with refractory microsatellite stable (MSS) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Here, we reported updated survival and safety results with a median follow-up of 34.0 months (data cut-off May 20, 2024), as well as patient-reported outcomes and laboratory analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Tirzepatide is a new medication that targets type 2 diabetes and potential long-term weight management by activating specific receptors in the body.
  • A review of randomized controlled trials revealed significant weight loss in patients using tirzepatide weekly compared to a placebo, with doses leading to an average weight loss of over 11 kg in some cases.
  • The treatment not only reduced body weight but also improved body mass index and waist circumference, with a notable percentage of patients achieving substantial weight loss milestones.

Article Synopsis
  • Immunotherapy has significantly improved cancer treatment, but microsatellite stable metastatic colorectal cancer (MSS mCRC) tends to resist PD-1 inhibitors, prompting researchers to investigate combining fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) with the drugs tislelizumab and fruquintinib for better outcomes.* -
  • In a phase II trial involving 20 patients, the combination treatment yielded a median progression-free survival of 9.6 months and a median overall survival of 13.7 months, showing promising results despite high rates of treatment-related adverse events.* -
  • The study indicates a potential link between gut microbiome composition and treatment effectiveness, as responders exhibited specific microbial profiles, although no deaths resulting from the treatment were

Department of Vascular Surgery, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China.

Impaired diabetic wound healing is an important issue in diabetic complications. Proliferation and migration of keratinocytes are major processes of skin wound repair after injury. However, hyperkeratosis can affect the speed of wound healing.

Based on computerized tomography scanning images of human lumbar vertebrae, finite element (FE) analysis is performed to predict the stress of pedicle screws, rods, and fractured vertebra as well as the displacement of fractured vertebra after internal fixation treatment of thoracolumbar burst fracture. A three-dimensional FE model of L1-L5 lumbar vertebrae with L3 burst fracture has been established and four fixation methods, namely, short segment cross- and trans-injured vertebrae, long segment cross- and trans-injured vertebrae fixations, have been adopted to perform posterior pedicle fixation. The stress distributions of the screws, rods, and fractured vertebra and the total deformation of the fractured vertebra are investigated under six different physiological motions.

Objective: Cisplatin (CDDP)-based chemotherapy is a first-line, drug regimen for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (BC) and metastatic bladder cancer. Clinically, resistance to CDDP restricts the clinical benefit of some bladder cancer patients. AT-rich interaction domain 1A (ARID1A) gene mutation occurs frequently in bladder cancer; however, the role of CDDP sensitivity in BC has not been studied.

Background: Disturbed serum calcium levels are related to the risk of stroke. However, previous studies exploring the correlation between serum calcium and the clinical outcome of ischemic stroke (IS) have shown inconsistent results.

Object: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between admission serum calcium and 30-day mortality in patients with IS.

The association between serum glucose to potassium ratio on admission and short-term mortality in ischemic stroke patients.

Sci Rep

May 2022

Department of Neurosurgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, Nanchang University, Yongwai Zheng Road 17, Nanchang, 330006, China.

High serum glucose to potassium ratio (GPR) at admission is implicated for a poor outcome in acute brain injury, acute intracranial hemorrhage, and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. However, the relationship between GPR and the outcome of ischemic stroke (IS) remains unknown. In all, 784 IS patients from a large emergency Norwegian cohort were included for secondary analysis.

Objective: Vancomycin combined with β-lactams (Combo therapy) has been encouraged in the treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream infections (BSIs) in recent years, but its efficacy and safety have not been systematically evaluated. This is a systematic review and meta-analysis to clarify the efficacy and safety of Combo therapy in patients with MRSA BSIs.

Methods: Relevant articles reporting on the clinical or microbiology outcomes of Combo treatment in adult patients with MRSA bacteraemia throughout November 2019 were searched in PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases.

Infections due to methicillin-resistant bacteremia (MRSAB) seriously threaten public health due to poor outcomes and high mortality. The objective of this study is to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the current evidence on adjuvant β-lactam (BL) therapy combined with vancomycin (VAN) or daptomycin (DAP) for MRSAB. PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched for publications reporting clinical outcomes of BLs+VAN or BLs+DAP for adult patients with MRSAB through 5 April 2020.
