Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China

Introduction: Involved site radiation therapy (ISRT) is a widely used treatment for primary ocular adnexal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma with control rates over 85%; however, its complications could reach 30%-50%. Intralesional rituximab injection has shown promising results with remission rates between 65% and 100% and minimal complications. This study aimed to conduct a multicentre randomised controlled clinical trial to compare the safety and efficacy of intralesional rituximab injection versus ISRT on primary ocular adnexal MALT lymphoma.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast cancer patients show elevated serum levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may impact their endometrial health, but the specific influence of tumor-derived ROS on endometrial function remains uncertain.
  • A study involving both breast cancer patients and a mouse model revealed that endometrial thickness was reduced in tumor-bearing subjects, indicating potential damage caused by cancer-related factors.
  • Vitamin C demonstrated a protective effect on the endometrium by reducing oxidative stress and fibrosis, suggesting it could be a therapeutic option for preserving fertility in younger women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate a combination gel containing adapalene 0.1% and clindamycin 1% for treating moderate acne, comparing its effectiveness to each medication used alone.
  • Results showed that the combination gel significantly reduced acne lesions by 66.85% after 12 weeks, outperforming adapalene (50.82%) and clindamycin (57.61%).
  • The combination gel was well tolerated and resulted in more participants achieving a 2-grade improvement in acne severity, indicating it is a more effective treatment option than the individual monotherapies.

The role of alcohol consumption as a mediator in the risk between sarcopenia and dementia remains inadequately studied. There is currently limited research on whether the association between sarcopenia and the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is influenced by genetic susceptibility. Our study incorporated a total of 483,637 baseline non-dementia participants, who were classified into groups of individuals with no sarcopenia and those with probable sarcopenia based on the definition.

Rationale: The management of residual stenosis after mechanical thrombectomy in patients with intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis-related emerge large vessel occlusive (ICAS-LVO) stroke is still unclear question in clinical practice.

Aim: To demonstrate the design of a clinical trial on emergency balloon angioplasty and/or stenting (BAS) combined with standard medical treatment (SMT) for residual stenosis of ICAS-LVO stroke patients with successful recanalisation.

Design: ASSET is a multicentre, prospective, randomised, open-label, blinded end-point, controlled clinical trial designed (PROBE) by investigators.

Purpose: To develop a CT radiomics model to predict pathological complete response (pCR) of advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) toneoadjuvant chemotherapy using paclitaxel and cisplatin.

Materials And Methods: 326 consecutive patients with advanced ESCC from two hospitals undergoing baseline contrast-enhanced CT followed by neoadjuvant chemotherapy using paclitaxel and cisplatin were enrolled, including 115 patients achieving pCR and 211 patients without pCR. Of the 271 cases from 1st hospital, 188 and 83 cases were randomly allocated to the training and test cohorts, respectively.

Background: Macrotrabecular-massive hepatocellular carcinoma (MTM-HCC) represents an aggressive subtype of HCC and is associated with poor survival.

Purpose: To investigate the performance of a representation learning-based feature fusion strategy that employs a multiphase contrast-enhanced CT (mpCECT)-based latent feature fusion (MCLFF) model for MTM-HCC identification.

Methods: A total of 206 patients (54 MTM HCC, 152 non-MTM HCC) who underwent preoperative mpCECT with surgically confirmed HCC between July 2017 and December 2022 were retrospectively included from two medical centers.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a heterogeneous disease that seriously affects the health of mothers and fetuses. Lack of detection assays, its diagnosis and intervention are often delayed when the clinical symptoms are atypical. Using personalized pathway-based analysis and machine learning algorithms, we built a PE diagnosis model consisting of nine core pathways using multiple cohorts from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.

Pediatric diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma radiotherapy response prediction: MRI morphology and T2 intensity-based quantitative analyses.

Eur Radiol

December 2024

Department of Oncology, Guangdong sanjiu Brain Hospital, No. 578, Shatai South Road, Baiyun District, Guangzhou, 510510, Guangdong Province, China.

Objectives: An easy-to-implement MRI model for predicting partial response (PR) postradiotherapy for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) is lacking. Utilizing quantitative T2 signal intensity and introducing a visual evaluation method based on T2 signal intensity heterogeneity, and compared MRI radiomic models for predicting radiotherapy response in pediatric patients with DIPG.

Methods: We retrospectively included patients with brainstem gliomas aged ≤ 18 years admitted between July 2011 and March 2023.

The present study reports a rare case of an exaggerated placental site (EPS) in a caesarean scar that was misdiagnosed as gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) by imaging, resulting in unnecessary surgical treatment. A 38-year-old woman underwent hysteroscopic resection of a cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP). The patient's serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) level was elevated (76,196 mIU/ml) at the 24-day postoperative follow-up visit.

Objective: Fear of cancer recurrence is one of the psychological distresses for patients with cancer and cancer survivors, which poses a physical and psychological threat. There is scant evidence on the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural therapy in reducing fear of cancer recurrence. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural therapy for fear of cancer recurrence.

Neurosurg Rev

May 2024

Department of Oncology, Guangdong sanjiu Brain Hospital, No. 578, Shatai South Road, Baiyun District, Guangzhou, 510510, Guangdong Province, China.

We aimed to evaluate the relationship between imaging features, therapeutic responses (comparative cross-product and volumetric measurements), and overall survival (OS) in pediatric diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). A total of 134 patients (≤ 18 years) diagnosed with DIPG were included. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate correlations of clinical and imaging features and therapeutic responses with OS.

Objectives: To evaluate the occurrence of retained products of conception (RPOC) after termination of pregnancy in the first trimester and to assess the vascular signals with transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS) examination in the detection of retained products.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed using TVUS examination in patients following termination of pregnancy. In cases of RPOC, 3 scales of vascular signal were identified: type 1, no or small amount, spot flow signals; type 2, medium amount, strip-like flow signals; type 3, rich amount, circumferential-like flow signals.
