A signal energy approach of acoustic source localization in plate structures using a discrete sensor array.

Ultrasonics

December 2024

Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ 85721, USA; Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department, Materials Science and Engineering Department, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ 85721, USA.

In the field of engineering structural health monitoring, acoustic source localization (ASL) is a common method to monitor early damage. Most of the existing ASL techniques have high requirements for accurate acquisition of time of arrival, and require complex iterative algorithms or signal processing techniques, which are not conducive to real-time monitoring. In this paper, a signal energy approach of acoustic source localization in plate structures using a discrete sensor array is proposed.

Lung cancer continues to be a major contributor to cancer-related deaths globally. Recent advances in immunotherapy have introduced promising treatments targeting T cell functionality. Central to the efficacy of these therapies is the role of T cells, which are often rendered dysfunctional due to continuous antigenic stimulation in the tumor microenvironment-a condition referred to as T cell exhaustion.

Electrochemical reduction of nitrate to ammonia (NO3RR) offers a promising strategy for renewable ammonia (NH3) synthesis and wastewater treatment, but still suffers from limited activity and NH3 selectivity due to the lack of effective electrocatalyst. Here, we perform a four-steps screening strategy to screen high performance NO3RR catalyst by density functional theory calculations using 23 single transition metals atom doped on 1T-WS2/graphene (TM@1T-WS2/graphene) as candidates. The results show that Cu@1T-WS2/graphene exhibits the highest NO3RR activity among 23 candidates with a low rate determining step energy barrier of 0.

Tailored protein corona behavior in titanium dioxide nanosheet fluorescence biosensor for protein quantification assays.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

Key Laboratory for Molecular Enzymology and Engineering, Ministry of Education, School of Life Sciences, Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin 130012, China. Electronic address:

The spontaneous adsorption of proteins onto nanoparticles, known as the protein corona, provides a unique perspective for designing protein-sensing biosensors. This study proposes a tailored protein corona method mediated by Tween-20 and develops a reverse-capture approach for protein quantification assays. The protein-coated microplate captures titanium dioxide nanosheets (TiO-NS) in a phosphate buffer containing Tween-20 and generates fluorescence signals via the photocatalytic reduction of resazurin to resorufin, thereby indicating the amount of protein.

Potassium-iodine batteries show great promise as alternatives for next-generation battery technology, owing to their high power density and environmental sustainability. Nevertheless, they suffer from polyiodide dissolution and the multistep electrode fabrication process, which leads to severe performance degradation and limitations in mass-market adoption. Herein, we report a simple "solution-adsorption" strategy for scale-up production of TiC(OH)-wrapped carbon nanotube paper (CNP), as an economic host for strengthening the iodine encapsulation.
