Increased peripheral leukocyte aggravates brain injury and leads to poor outcome in stroke patients receiving intravenous thrombolysis: A study based on clinical evidence.

Whether the dynamic development of peripheral inflammation aggravates brain injury and leads to poor outcome in stroke patients receiving intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), remains unclear and warrants further study. In this study, total of 1034 patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent IVT were enrolled. Serum leukocyte variation (whether increase from baseline to 24 h after IVT), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), infarct volume, early neurologic deterioration (END), the unfavorable outcome at 3-month (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score ≥3) and mortality were recorded.

Left ventricular global longitudinal strain using a novel fully automated method: A head-to-head comparison with a manual layer-specific strain and establishment of normal reference ranges.

Background: A novel automated method for measuring left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (GLS) along the endocardium has advantages in terms of its rapid application and excellent reproducibility. However, it remains unclear whether the available normal range for conventional GLS using the manual method is applicable to the automated GLS method. This study aimed to compare automated GLS head-to-head with manual layer-specific GLS, and to identify whether a specialized normal reference range for automated GLS is needed and explore the main determinants.

Purpose: Despite strong efforts to promote human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and cervical cancer screening, cervical cancer remains a threat to women's reproductive health. Some high-risk HPV types play a crucial role in the progression of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions. Therefore, HPV screening has become an important means to prevent, diagnose, and triage cervical cancer.

Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Can Improve Prognosis of Extramedullary Infiltration Positive t(8;21) Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

BACKGROUND In t(8;21) acute myeloid leukemia (AML), patients with extramedullary infiltration (EMI) tend to have worse survival outcomes than those without EMI. However, it is still unclear whether allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) benefits EMI-positive t(8;21) AML patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study retrospectively enrolled 651 t(8;21) AML patients, and analyzed 51 patients with EMI at diagnosis.

Normal reference values for mitral annular plane systolic excursion by motion-mode and speckle tracking echocardiography: a prospective, multicentre, population-based study.

Aims: Mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) is a simple and reliable index for evaluating left ventricular (LV) systolic function, particularly in patients with poor image quality; however, the lack of reference values limits its widespread use. This study aimed to establish the normal ranges for MAPSE measured using motion-mode (M-mode) and two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) and to explore its principal determinants.

Methods And Results: This multicentre, prospective, cross-sectional study included 1952 healthy participants [840 men (43%); age range, 18-80 years] from 55 centres.

Lung cancer presenting with acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism within 1 month.

Acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism can have life-threatening consequences such as congestive heart and respiratory failure, respectively. Cancer patients are at great risk of both acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism complications because the malignancy sparks the patient's blood hypercoagulable state. Nevertheless, the literature currently offers only a few reports on acute myocardial infarction associated with pulmonary embolism, and two of them occurred in the same cancer patient.

Application of computed tomographic angiography and echocardiography in predicting left atrial appendage thrombosis in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

Aim: We aimed to explore the application of computed tomographic angiography (CTA) and echocardiography in predicting left atrial appendage (LAA) thrombosis in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

Methods: The clinical data of 164 atrial fibrillation patients receiving cardiac CTA and real-time three-dimensional transoesophageal echocardiography (RT-3D-TEE) were retrospectively analysed. The patients were divided into group A (anticoagulant treatment group, = 112) and group B (selective anticoagulant treatment group, = 52) according to the CHADS-VASc score, which scored for the presence or absence of congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥ 75 years, diabetes mellitus, stroke/transient ischaemic attack, vascular disease, age 65-74 years and gender (female).

Dorzagliatin add-on therapy to metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial.

Metformin, the first-line therapy for type 2 diabetes (T2D), decreases hepatic glucose production and reduces fasting plasma glucose levels. Dorzagliatin, a dual-acting orally bioavailable glucokinase activator targeting both the pancreas and liver glucokinase, decreases postprandial glucose in patients with T2D. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial, the efficacy and safety of dorzagliatin as an add-on therapy to metformin were assessed in patients with T2D who had inadequate glycemic control using metformin alone.

Many components in NWSSJD can induce epigenetic modifications of different types of cells. It is not yet known whether they can cause epigenetic modifications in sperm or early embryos.

Hydrogel-assisted delivery of lipophilic molecules into aqueous medium for transdermal medication based on environment-specific, regioselective adsorption of graphene oxides.

Graphene oxide (GO)-laden agarose composite hydrogels (GOACHs) were utilized to deliver lipophilic molecules from organic to aqueous media without alteration of the lipophilic nature of the molecules and the hydrophilic nature of the GOACHs. After the agarose host networks of the GOACHs were impregnated with the non-polar organic solution of lipophilic molecules via stepwise solvent exchange, their GO guests wielded the edge polar groups to effectively adsorb the lipophilic molecules via hydrogen bonding. After being transferred to aqueous media, the GOACHs were able to not only release the loaded lipophilic molecules but also to adsorb the released lipophilic molecules on the GO non-polar carbon lattice planes via hydrophobic interactions, thus resulting in deliberately balanced release of lipophilic molecules in aqueous media.

Anti‑inflammatory effect of salusin‑β knockdown on LPS‑activated alveolar macrophages via NF‑κB inhibition and HO‑1 activation.

Inflammation of alveolar macrophages is the primary pathological factor leading to acute lung injury (ALI), and NF‑κB activation and HO‑1 inhibition are widely involved in inflammation. Salusin‑β has been reported to contribute to the progression of the inflammatory response, but whether salusin‑β could regulate inflammation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‑induced ALI remains unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the role of salusin‑β in LPS‑induced ALI and to uncover the potential underlying mechanisms.

Aims And Objective: Effective components and the mechanism of action of Zhichan powder for the treatment of Parkinson's disease were researched at a systematic level.

Materials And Methods: Screening of active components in Zhichan powder for the treatment of Parkinson's disease was conducted using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database, and a medicine-target-disease network was established with computational network pharmacology.

Results: By using network pharmacology methods, we identified 18 major active components in Zhichan powder through screening, indicating a connection between chemical components of this Traditional Chinese Medicine and Parkinson's disease-related targets.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that various microRNAs (miRs) are aberrantly expressed in thyroid cancer and play critical roles in thyroid cancer malignancy. The aberrant expression of miR‑592 has frequently been reported in multiple human cancer types; however, its expression profile and functions in thyroid cancer remain poorly understood. Reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction was carried out to determine the expression profile of miR‑592 in thyroid cancer tissues and cell lines.

Background And Objectives: Essential hypertension is the most common chronic disease. To provide a basis for developing the prevention and control strategies of hypertension by epidemiological investigation on factors related to hypertension in health examination population.

Methods: Data of health examination population from Jilin municipal enterprise and public institutions during January 2011 and July 2012 were randomly selected, and statistical analysis was performed for the age, gender, body mass index, blood lipids, blood uric acid, serum creatinine, blood glucose and hypertension classification indexes.
