() is a member of and is used in traditional Chinese medicine, and it has been found that grafting technology can be used to alter plant metabolite composition and transcriptome characteristics. In this study, shoots of were grafted onto the rootstocks of the vigorous Acanthopanax sessiliflorus () to improve its varietal characteristics. In order to investigate the changes in metabolites and transcriptional patterns in grafted leaves (GSCL), fresh leaves were collected from 2-year-old grafted scions, while self-rooted seedling leaves (SCL) were used as controls to analyse the transcriptome and metabolome.

In this work, a novel piezoelectric actuator based on the stick-slip principle is proposed. The actuator is constrained by an asymmetric constraint approach; the driving foot produces lateral and longitudinal coupling displacements when the piezo stack is extended. The lateral displacement is used to drive the slider and the longitudinal displacement is used to compress the slider.

To explore the differences between the hypericum in the Changbai Mountains, we carried out a transcriptome analysis of two common hypericums in the area, which was Choisy and Oliv. We screened the genes to analyze divergence time and evolutionary selection expression, and determine their expression levels. The results showed that we detected 9287 differentially expressed genes in the two species, of which shared 6044 genes by the two species.

The stability and digestive properties of a dual-protein emulsion consisting of soy protein isolate (SPI) and whey protein isolate (WPI) have been systematically studied. The results showed that the particle size and viscosity of the dual-protein emulsion system decreased continuously with the increase in WPI, and this might be related to the large amount of electric charge on the surface of the emulsion droplets. Dual-protein emulsions with ratios of 3:7 and 5:5 showed the highest emulsion activity, while emulsion stability increased with the increase in WPI.

Birds have the ability to assess the risk of predation in their environment and adjust their antipredation strategies based on this risk information. However, whether nest site selection has effect on subsequent nest defence behaviour has not been studied. In this study, we aimed to determine whether the Japanese tit (Parus minor) exhibits a nest-box hole size preference and whether the entrance hole sizes of nest boxes influence the nest defence behaviour of tits.

In Ginseng, the fungus may cause ginseng gray mold disease, causing great economic losses in the ginseng industry. Therefore, the early detection of in the process of ginseng production is necessary for the disease prevention and control of the pathogen's spread.

Infection with porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes severe watery diarrhea in newborn piglets, leading to substantial financial losses for the swine industry. In this study, we screened small molecule drugs targeting 3 C-like protease (3CLpro) by molecular docking, and further evaluated the antiviral activity of the screened drugs against PEDV. Results showed that octyl gallate (OG), a widely used food additive, exhibited strong binding affinity with the 3CLpro active sites of PEDV.

Global warming in this century increases incidences of various abiotic stresses, restricting plant growth and productivity and posing a severe threat to global food production and security. Different phytohormones are produced by plants to mitigate the adverse effects of these stresses. One such phytohormone is melatonin (MEL), which, being a potential bio-stimulator, helps to govern a wide array of functions in horticultural crops.

In May 2021, we opportunistically observed one Eurasian jay () attacking an adult incubating Japanese tit () and depredating nine tit eggs at a nest box where a woodpecker had greatly enlarged the entrance. After the predation event, the Japanese tits abandoned the nest. We recommend that when using artificial nest boxes to protect hole-nesting birds, the appropriate entrance size should be proportional to the body size of the target species.

4-tert-butylphenol (4-tBP) is a monomer widely used in the synthesis of industrial chemicals, and posed a high risk to aquatic animals. Our study focused on toxic phenotype and mechanism of detoxification in grass carp hepatocytes (L8824) after 4-tBP-treatment. In this experiment, L8824 displayed hallmark phenotypes of apoptosis and necroptosis after 4-tBP exposure, as evidenced by changes in cell morphology, increased rates of apoptosis and necrosis, the loss of MMP, the accumulation of ROS, and changes in associated factors (PARP1, JNK, Bid, Bcl-2, Bax, AIFM1, CytC, Caspase 9, APAF1, Caspase 3, TNF-α, TNFR1, RIPK1, RIPK3, and MLKL).
