We analyzed the association between clinical data and mRNA expression levels.

Impact of intravascular ultrasound on limb events in endovascular therapy for patients with peripheral arterial disease: insights from the TOMA-CODE registry.

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has become a standard procedure for performing coronary intervention, but its impact on peripheral endovascular therapy (EVT) remains unclear. To assess the usefulness of IVUS during EVT, this study analyzed over 2000 consecutive patients from the TOkyo-taMA peripheral vascular intervention research COmraDE (TOMA-CODE) registry with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in Japan. The primary outcome was chronic limb events (a composite of clinically driven target lesion revascularization (cTLR) and major amputation) during a two-year follow-up period.

Background: We elucidated the influence of sarcopenic obesity on postoperative outcomes in patients with oesophago-gastric cancer.

Methods: We conducted a systematic search on MEDLINE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Platform Search Portal, and ClinicalTrials.gov to identify observational studies published from their inception to September 26, 2024.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic performance and safety of endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) for perivascular soft-tissue cuffing (PSTC).

Methods: This single-center, retrospective study evaluated patients in whom EUS-TA was performed for PSTC in pancreatic or bile duct cancer lesions between October 2017 and March 2024. PSTC was defined as a perivascular soft-tissue area contiguous with nearby blood vessels from the suspected primary tumor.

New Fresnel lens loupe for nystagmus observation suitable for use by medical staff in emergency departments.

Background: Reduction of spontaneous nystagmus by fixation, a characteristic feature of peripheral nystagmus, is important for differentiating between peripheral and central vestibular disorders. In the emergency room, Frenzel goggles are recommended to observe spontaneous nystagmus for the differential diagnosis of acute vestibular syndrome. We developed a portable loupe with a Fresnel lens to observe nystagmus.

Updated meta-analysis for antihypertensive treatment guided by home blood pressure compared to treatment based on office blood pressure: systematic review.

Home blood pressure (BP) measurement is widely used, and home BP plays a central role in hypertension management in clinical practice in Japan. We updated the systematic review to determine whether home BP-based antihypertensive treatment is superior to office BP-based treatment in improving clinical outcomes, including BP levels, in adult patients with essential hypertension. A literature search identified 14 randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

This study investigates the role of the calcium-activated chloride channel, Anoctamin 1 (ANO1), in the gills of the euryhaline Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) under hyperosmolality and cortisol (CORT) influence. Acclimation to artificial SW, NaCl, mannitol, or glucose significantly upregulated ANO1 and CFTR mRNA expression in gills, unlike urea treatment.

Background: Vasohibin-1 (VASH1), an angiogenic inhibitor, exhibits tubulin carboxypeptidase activity, which is involved in microtubule functions. Paclitaxel, the core chemotherapeutic agent for ovarian cancer chemotherapy, has a point of action on microtubules and may interact with VASH1.

Aims: To examine the influence of VASH1 on intracellular tubulin detyrosination status, cyclin B1 expression, and paclitaxel chemosensitivity using VASH1-overexpressing ovarian cancer cell lines.

Current situation and overview of resorbable magnesium scaffolds: a perspective for overcoming the remaining issues of polymeric bioresorbable scaffold.

Bioresorbable scaffolds (BRS) were developed as an innovative solution to overcome the limitations of metallic stents. While polymeric BRS initially demonstrated comparable clinical outcomes to drug-eluting stent (DES) in clinical trials, subsequent large-scale studies revealed that patients implanted with polymeric BRS experienced higher rates of scaffold thrombosis (ScT) and target lesion failure compared to those with metallic stents. Resorbable magnesium scaffolds (RMS) have emerged as a promising alternative owing to magnesium's natural degradability and favorable mechanical properties.

Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection With Polymer Ligation Clips Significantly Reduces Hospital Stay Compared to Vessel Sealer: A Retrospective Study.

Introduction Lymphocele is a typical complication of pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). This study aimed to compare postoperative lymphatic leakage between the polymer ligation clip and vessel sealer, and evaluated the costs associated with the former. Methods The study enrolled patients who underwent RARP with PLND at our institution between April 2018 and March 2023 and were treated with a vessel sealer (LigaSure Blunt Tip 44 NC; Medtronic, Dublin, Ireland) until September 2021, and Hem-o-lok polymer ligation clips(Teleflex, Wayne, PA, USA) thereafter.

Identification of KCNE6, a new member of the KCNE family of potassium channel auxiliary subunits.

The KCNE family (KCNE1-5) is a group of single transmembrane auxiliary subunits for the voltage-gated K channel KCNQ1. The KCNQ1-KCNE complexes are crucial for numerous physiological processes including ventricular repolarization and K recycling in epithelial cells. We identified a new member of the KCNE family, "KCNE6", from zebrafish.

Early versus late administration of adrenaline in pediatric patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Objectives: Optimal timing of adrenaline administration in pediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is unclear. Background: MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, also known as X-linked intellectual developmental disorder Lubs type (MRXSL; MIM: 300260), is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by copy number gains spanning MECP2. Despite varying genomic rearrangement structures, including duplications and triplications, and a wide range of duplication sizes, no clear correlation exists between DNA rearrangement and clinical features. We had previously demonstrated that up to 38% of MRXSL families are characterized by complex genomic rearrangements (CGRs) of intermediate complexity (2 ≤ copy number variant breakpoints < 5), yet the impact of these genomic structures on regulation of gene expression and phenotypic manifestations have not been investigated.

Lack of an association between spleen volume and risk of pneumococcal infection in cancer patients: a nested case-control study.

Background: The spleen is a key organ in preventing pneumococcal infection, especially in patients with immunocompromised condition such as those with cancer. Previous studies have shown that a small spleen volume in pneumococcal pneumonia patients is associated with severe disease course. However, it is unknown whether a small spleen increases risk of pneumococcal infection.
