In the field of human action recognition, it is a long-standing challenge to characterize the video-level spatio-temporal features effectively. This is attributable in part to the inability of CNN to model long-range temporal information, especially for actions that consist of multiple staged behaviors. In this paper, a novel attention-based spatio-temporal VLAD network (AST-VLAD) with self-attention model is developed to aggregate the informative deep features across the video according to the adaptive deep feature selected.

Three-dimensional path planning refers to determining an optimal path in a three-dimensional space with obstacles, so that the path is as close to the target location as possible, while meeting some other constraints, including distance, altitude, threat area, flight time, energy consumption, and so on. Although the bald eagle search algorithm has the characteristics of simplicity, few control parameters, and strong global search capabilities, it has not yet been applied to complex three-dimensional path planning problems. In order to broaden the application scenarios and scope of the algorithm and solve the path planning problem in three-dimensional space, we present a study where five three-dimensional geographical environments are simulated to represent real-life unmanned aerial vehicles flying scenarios.

Key Laboratory of Quality and Safety Control for Subtropical Fruit and Vegetable, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Collaborative Innovation Center for Efficient and Green Production of Agriculture in Mountainous Areas of Zhejiang Province, College of Horticulture Science, Zhejiang A&F University, Hangzhou 311300, Zhejiang, China.

Cuticular wax is the first line of structural defense for plants against external stresses. This study investigated the effects of melatonin (MT) on chemical composition and accumulation profile of wax, as well as fruit quality of rabbiteye blueberry during storage. The results indicated a significant reduction in the overall wax content during storage.

Simulation of Photosynthetic Quantum Efficiency and Energy Distribution Analysis Reveals Differential Drought Response Strategies in Two (Drought-Resistant and -Susceptible) Sugarcane Cultivars.

Plants (Basel)

February 2023

South Subtropical Crop Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Zhanjiang Experimental and Observation Station for National Long-Term Agricultural Green Development, Zhanjiang 524091, China.

Selections of drought-tolerant cultivars and drought-stress diagnosis are important for sugarcane production under seasonal drought, which becomes a crucial factor causing sugarcane yield reduction. The main objective of this study was to investigate the differential drought-response strategies of drought-resistant ('ROC22') and -susceptible ('ROC16') sugarcane cultivars via photosynthetic quantum efficiency () simulation and analyze photosystem energy distribution. Five experiments were conducted to measure chlorophyll fluorescence parameters under different photothermal and natural drought conditions.

Sugarcane is the major sugar-producing crop worldwide, and hybrid F populations are the primary populations used in breeding. Challenged by the sugarcane genome's complexity and the sucrose yield's quantitative nature, phenotypic selection is still the most commonly used approach for high-sucrose yield sugarcane breeding. In this study, a hybrid F population containing 135 hybrids was constructed and evaluated for 11 traits (sucrose yield (SY) and its related traits) in a randomized complete-block design during two consecutive growing seasons.

In recent studies, numerous anomalies against the weak and semi-strong-forms of efficient market hypothesis (EMH) have been found insignificant after controlling the small-firm effect. We investigate whether the insider trading anomaly, a major anomaly against the strong-form of EMH, can survive after excluding small firms with a novel data set (FTSE-350) and document several new findings. We find a substantially larger number of insider purchases than sales, while the average volume of insider sales is much higher than the average volume of insider purchases.

Saffron is a well-known Chinese traditional herb, and crocin biosynthesis is related to the yield and quality of saffron. This study aimed to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in saffron at different flowering stages and identify cytochrome P450 (CYP) genes involved in crocin biosynthesis. Saffron samples at different flowering stages were used for RNA sequencing, and DEGs between the samples at three days before the flowering stage (- 3da) and two days after the flowering stage (+ 2da) were screened.

Convolutional neural network (CNN) has been leaping forward in recent years. However, the high dimensionality, rich human dynamic characteristics, and various kinds of background interference increase difficulty for traditional CNNs in capturing complicated motion data in videos. A novel framework named the attention-based temporal encoding network (ATEN) with background-independent motion mask (BIMM) is proposed to achieve video action recognition here.

Development of a Colloidal Gold Immunochromatographic Assay for Duck Enteritis Virus Detection Using Monoclonal Antibodies.

Pathogens

March 2021

Key Laboratory of Animal Epidemiology of the Ministry of Agriculture, College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100193, China.

Duck viral enteritis is a highly contagious and fatal disease of commercial waterfowl flocks. The disease occurs sporadically or epizootically in mainland China due to insufficient vaccinations. Early and rapid diagnosis is important for preventive intervention and the control of epizootic events in clinical settings.

Background: Ferguson's δ and Gini coefficient (GC) are defined as contrasting statistical measures of inequality among members within populations. However, the association and cutting points for these two statistics are still unclear; a visual display is required to inspect their similarities and differences.

Methods: A simulation study was conducted to illustrate the pertinent properties of these statistics, along with Cronbach's α and dimension coefficient (DC) to assess inequality.
