Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a common birth defect. Our previous studies suggest that indoor air pollution, especially total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs), may increase fetal CHD risk, whereas vitamin and folic acid (FA) supplements in early pregnancy might offer protection against CHD. However, limited research has explored whether FA or multivitamin supplementation can mitigate the effects of TVOCs exposure on CHD.

Nanoplatform-based synergistic cancer Immuno-Chemodynamic therapy.

Int J Pharm

December 2024

Department of Pharmaceutics, College of Medicine, Jiaxing University, Jiaxing, 314001, PR China. Electronic address:

Immunotherapy has made excellent breakthroughs in the field of cancer treatments, but faces challenges with low immunogenicity of tumor cells and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITME). The emerging chemodynamic therapy (CDT) based on the Fenton/Fenton-like reaction can induce immunogenic cell death (ICD) to enhance tumor immunogenicity, facilitating the transition from immune-cold to immune-hot tumors. Synergistic CDT and immunotherapy based on advanced nanotechnology have shown immense promise for improving therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects in cancer treatment.

As an emerging cancer therapeutic modality, ion-interference therapy (IIT), mediated by the elevated levels of intracellular calcium ions (Ca), hasgarneredsignificant research attention in the field of cancer theranostics. However, most reported IIT strategies have heavily relied on Ca-based inorganic compounds, such as calcium peroxide and calcium carbonate, whose biosafety remains under investigation due to their high density and uncertainbiodegradability. This study describes a novel strategy for efficiently encapsulating doxorubicin (DOX) andCa using the CaSO gradient method fordrugremote loading.

DCAF13 promotes ovarian cancer progression by activating FRAS1-mediated FAK signaling pathway.

Cell Mol Life Sci

October 2024

Department of Cell Biology, College of Medicine, Jiaxing University, 118 Jiahang Road, Jiaxing, 314001, P. R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • Cullin-RING ubiquitin ligase 4 (CRL4) is linked to ovarian cancer development, with the protein DCAF13 playing a crucial role in this process.
  • High levels of DCAF13 are associated with poor survival rates in ovarian cancer patients, and knocking it out significantly reduces cancer cell growth and movement.
  • The study reveals that DCAF13 promotes tumor growth by targeting FRAS1 for degradation, which in turn activates the FAK signaling pathway, suggesting potential therapeutic targets for ovarian cancer treatment.

  • This study analyzed 187 cases of neonatal COVID-19 from December 2022 to January 2023 in China, focusing on the clinical characteristics and short-term outcomes of those infected.
  • A significant portion of the infants (44.9%) experienced severe infection, often presenting with fever and respiratory symptoms, and severe cases had higher levels of certain liver and heart-related biomarkers.
  • Despite the severity, none of the neonates required specific COVID-19 treatments, with all patients ultimately being discharged after an average hospital stay of four days and none developing multisystem inflammatory syndrome.

Article Synopsis
  • Colistin is a last-resort antibiotic for treating infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP), but resistance to colistin is rising globally.
  • This study analyzed five isolates of CRKP from a patient, investigating how insertion sequences (IS elements) contribute to colistin resistance, particularly through genetic disruptions during treatment.
  • Findings revealed that all isolates were resistant to multiple antibiotics, including colistin in three cases, with the primary resistance mechanism identified as IS element-mediated disruption, highlighting the urgency of understanding and monitoring drug resistance in clinical settings.

Animal personalities play a crucial role in invasion dynamics. During the invasion process, the behavioral strategies of native species vary among personalities, just as the invasive species exhibit variations in behavior strategies across personalities. However, the impact of personality interactions between native species and invasive species on behavior and growth are rarely illustrated.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common pathological type of thyroid cancer (THCA) and shows a better prognosis than other types. However, further research is needed to determine the risk of PTC. We herein used the CIBERSORT algorithm to analyze the gene-expression profile obtained from TCGA, estimated the infiltration ratio of 22 immune cell types in tumor tissues and normal tissues, analyzed the differential expression of immune-related genes, and identified immune cells and immune-related genes related to clinical progress and prognosis.
