In this report, we present a pH-induced reversible assembly system (PIRAS) based on ferritin (Ft) for targeted tumor therapy. It has been developed to easily load and release of the anticancer drug resveratrol (RV), based on its natural pH-sensitivity and unique hollow cavity of Ft. A tumor-specific target peptide Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) was conjugated onto the surface of RV-loaded Ft (RV@Ft), to form biocompatible nanoparticles (RV@Ft-RGD).

Limonin attenuates the stemness of cervical carcinoma cells by promoting YAP nuclear-cytoplasmic translocation.

Food Chem Toxicol

March 2019

Department of Obstetrics, Henan Province Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No.6 Dongfeng Road, Jinshui District, Zhengzhou, 450002, China. Electronic address:

This work aimed to investigate the role and related mechanism of limonin in regulating the stemness of cervical carcinoma (CC) cells. In the present study, we constructed adriamycin-resistant CC cells and found that they exhibited greater stemness than parental cells. Additionally, limonin attenuated the stemness of CC cells that were resistant or sensitive to adriamycin, as evidenced by the decreases in spheroid formation capacity, stemness markers expression and ALDH1 activity, whereas limonin did not affect the viability of normal cervical epithelial cells.

NOD1 activates autophagy to aggravate hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice.

J Cell Biochem

June 2019

Department of Liver Transplantion, Oriental Organ Transplant Center, Tianjin First Central Hospital, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, People's Republic of China.

Hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is tissue damage resulting from return of the blood supply to the tissue after a period of ischemia or lack of oxygen. Much of the morbidity associated with liver transplantation and major hepatic resections is, in part, due to IRI. Both innate immunity and autophagy play important roles in hepatic IRI.

MiR-27a-5p regulates apoptosis of liver ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice by targeting Bach1.

J Cell Biochem

December 2018

Department of Liver Transplantion, Oriental Organ Transplant Center, Tianjin First Central Hospital, Tianjin, China.

Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury causes cellular dysfunction and a series of immune or apoptotic reactions. Bach1 is a mammalian transcription factor that represses Hmox1, which encodes heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) that can degrade heme into free iron, carbon monoxide, and biliverdin, to play an important role in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic activities. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can be found in a variety of eukaryotic cells and viruses, a class of noncoding small RNAs that are encoded by endogenous genes.

The highly refractory nature of cervical cancer to chemotherapeutic drugs and its epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) are the key reasons contributing to the poor prognosis of this disease. Golgi Membrane Protein 1 (GOLM1), a protein involved in the trafficking of proteins through the Golgi apparatus, has been shown to be oncogenic in a variety of human cancers. Herein, we found GOLM1 was markedly up-regulated in cervical cancer and GOLM1 down-expression enhanced the anti-tumor effect of methotrexate.

Olmesartan attenuates pressure-overload- or post-infarction-induced cardiac remodeling in mice.

Oncotarget

May 2018

State Key Laboratory of Organ Failure Research, Department of Cardiology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou 510515, China.

Either angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor 1 blocker (ARB) attenuates cardiac remodeling. However, the overall molecular modulation of the reversing remodeling process in response to the ACEI or ARB treatment is not yet well determined. In this study, we examined whether gene expressions are modulated by ACEI (temocapril), ARB (olmesartan) or both in a murine model with transverse aortic constriction (TAC) and confirm whether periostin is a target gene of olmesartan in mice with myocardial infarction (MI).
