Electroencephalogram-microstate analysis was conducted using low-resolution electromagnetic tomography (LORETA)-KEY to evaluate dynamic brain network changes in patients with acute large artery atherosclerotic cerebral infarction (LAACI) during the rest and sleep stages. This study included 35 age- and sex-matched healthy controls and 34 patients with acute LAACI. Each participant performed a 3-h, 19-channel video electroencephalogram test.

Background: This study investigated the feasibility of endoscopic retrograde appendicitis therapy (ERAT) for the treatment of acute appendicitis.

Methods: There were 210 patients included who were admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to October 2019 with a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. According to the method of treatment, patients were stratified into the ERAT group, laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) group, or open appendectomy (OA) group for comparison of perioperative information extracted from the medical records of the patients.

Background: The association between allogeneic blood transfusion and healthcare-associated infection (HAI) is considered dose-dependent. However, this association may be confounded by transfusion duration, as prolonged hospitalization stay increases the risk of HAI. Also, it is not clear whether specific blood products have different dose-response risks.

Incidence of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting among cancer patients receiving moderately to highly emetogenic chemotherapy in cancer centers in Sichuan, China.

Purpose: Nausea and vomiting are the most painful and feared side effects for patients during chemotherapy. Currently, most studies focus on the occurrence of CINV during the risk phase. We initiated this real-world study to understand the actual occurrence of CINV throughout all phases, to provide a basis to prevent CINV in patients during chemotherapy and improve their quality of life.

Endoscopic treatment for acute appendicitis with coexistent acute pancreatitis: Two case reports.

Background: Appendectomy is the procedure of choice for the treatment of acute appendicitis. However, surgery may not be appropriate for patients with coexisting severe illness or comorbidities such as acute pancreatitis (AP). Endoscopic retrograde appendicitis treatment (ERAT) may be a novel alternative to surgery for treating such patients where existing medical therapies have failed.

Adiponectin Protects Obese Rats from Aggravated Acute Lung Injury via Suppression of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress.

Introduction: Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress seems to mediate the obesity-induced susceptibility to acute lung injury (ALI). The present study was designed to evaluate the role of ER stress in adiponectin (APN)-induced lung protection in an obese rat model treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Methods: Four-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats fed either a normal chow diet or a high-fat diet for 12 weeks were randomly assigned to one of the following groups: lean rats, diet-induced obesity rats, lean rats with ALI, obese rats with ALI, obese rats pretreated with 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA) before ALI or obese rats pretreated with APN before ALI.

Variations in fecal microbial profiles of acute exacerbations and stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Aim: Alterations in the respiratory and digestive tract microbiomes influence the occurrence and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Here, we aimed to identify fecal microbiome profiles during COPD development.

Methods: Fecal samples were collected from 29 COPD patients with acute exacerbation (AECOPD), 29 stable COPD patients, and 22 normal subjects (NS).

Single-Agent Versus Double-Agent Chemotherapy in Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy for Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Prospective, Randomized, Multicenter Phase II Clinical Trial.

Lessons Learned: The efficacy of single-agent chemotherapy was not significantly different from that of double-agent chemotherapy in concurrent chemoradiotherapy for inoperable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Single-agent concurrent chemoradiotherapy had lower gastrointestinal and hematologic toxicity. Overall survival and progression-free survival were not significantly different between single- and double-agent concurrent chemoradiotherapy.

Misdiagnosis of peripheral abscess caused by duodenal foreign body: a case report and literature review.

Background: The induction of chronic inflammation, perforation, and abscess by foreign bodies (FBs) in adults is uncommon. We present a delayed diagnosis case for a patient who had a fishbone stuck in the duodenal bulb, resulting in chronic abdominal pain for nearly 3 months. We present the diagnosis and treatment procedures for chronic patients, which differ from those for acute and emergency FB ingestion, and also summarize the characteristics of such patients through a systematic literature review.

Computed tomography-guided paravertebral doxorubicin injection for refractory pain in patients with spinal metastases: Two case reports.

Rationale: Diagnosing and treating refractory cancer pain have become standardized and effective procedures with guidance from the Expert Consensus on Refractory Cancer Pain released in 2017 by the Committee of Rehabilitation and Palliative Care of China. Doxorubicin has been used for perineural injection in the treatment of chronic non-cancer pain owing to its retrograde sensory ganglion resection effect. Our study reports a new fourth-ladder treatment for cancer pain: CT-guided paravertebral doxorubicin injection for patients with refractory cancer pain caused by paraspinal metastasis.
