Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how visceral adipose tissue (VAT) area and density influence the accuracy of tumor T-staging in gastric cancer using preoperative CT scans.
  • A total of 136 gastric cancer patients were divided into two groups based on the accuracy of their T-staging determined by preoperative CT and postoperative pathology.
  • Results showed that patients with accurate staging had a larger VAT area and lower density, and those with a smaller VAT area or tumors in the upper stomach were more likely to have staging errors.

Chin Clin Oncol

April 2024

Department of Medical Ultrasound, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Background: The current preoperative malignancy risk evaluation for thyroid nodules involves stepwise diagnostic modalities including ultrasonography, thyroid function serology and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytopathology, respectively. We aimed to substantiate the stepwise contributions of each diagnostic step and additionally investigate the diagnostic significance of quantitative chromogenic imprinted gene in-situ hybridization (QCIGISH)-an adjunctive molecular test based on epigenetic imprinting alterations.

Methods: A total of 114 cytopathologically-diagnosed and histopathologically-confirmed thyroid nodules with complete ultrasonographic and serological examination records were evaluated using QCIGISH in the study.

Background: Despite the high incidence of lateral neck lymph node (LN) metastasis in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), the management of the lateral neck remains controversial. We aimed to map the draining LNs in the lateral neck using carbon nanoparticles and explore its potential in neck evaluation.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter, prospective study in PTC patients who had non-palpable yet suspicious metastatic lateral LNs on ultrasound and/or computed tomography (CT) but could not be confirmed by fine needle aspiration.

NHC Key Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Molecular Nuclear Medicine, Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine, 20 Qian Rong Road, Wuxi , Jiangsu, 214063, China.

Reliable preoperative diagnosis of thyroid nodules remained challenging because of the inconclusiveness of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology. In the present study, 583 formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) thyroid nodule tissues and 161 FNA specimens were enrolled retrospectively. Then BRAF V600E, EZH1 Q571R, SPOP P94R, and ZNF148 mutations among these samples were identified using Sanger sequencing.

Ectopic thyroid tissue, 90% presenting in lingual zone, is often scanned by ultra-sonography or computed tomography. Most surgeons regard ectopic thyroid as metastatic foci from thyroid cancer, thus resection is recommended. Here, we reported a man with bilateral papillary thyroid cancer, accompany with normal ectopic thyroid tissue in right sternocleidomastoid muscle.

MicroRNA-99a-3p/GRP94 axis affects metastatic progression of human papillary thyroid carcinoma by regulating ITGA2 expression and localization.

Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai)

December 2021

NHC Key Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Molecular Nuclear Medicine, Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Wuxi 214063, China.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) usually has favorable prognosis; however, distant metastasis is a leading cause of death associated with PTC. MicroRNA-99a-3p (miR-99a-3p) is a member of the miR-99 family that is shown to be a tumor suppressor in various human cancers including the anaplastic thyroid cancer, another type of thyroid cancer. The Cancer Genome Atlas database and our previous study reported that miR-99a-3p is downregulated in human PTC tissues as well as human papillary thyroid carcinoma B-CPAP and TPC-1 cell lines.

Key Laboratory of Liver Transplantation, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Hepatobiliary Center, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China.

Currently, the controversy regarding the expression profile and function of BUB1B in different malignancies still exist. In this project, we aimed to explore the role and molecular mechanism of BUB1B in the progression of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ECC). The expression levels of BUB1B in human ECC were evaluated by immunohistochemistry, western blot, and real-time PCR.

The assessment of capsular invasion is an essential but challenging step in the diagnosis of encapsulated follicular thyroid neoplasms. Therefore, interobserver agreement in the assessment of capsular invasion in these tumors was investigated among 11 thyroid pathologists by using virtual slides of 20 cases in which the original diagnosis considered the differential diagnosis of definite capsular invasion versus questionable capsular invasion. The assessment of capsular invasion was divided into three categories: (1) non-invasive, (2) questionable invasive, and (3) clear-cut invasive.

MicroRNAs are highly conserved endogenous small noncoding RNAs and demonstrated to play important roles in the metastatic cascade of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), including the process of anoikis resistance. In this study, the correlation between miRNA-363-3p (miR-363-3p) expression and PTC metastasis was analyzed based on clinical data, and the effect and related mechanism of miR-363-3p on anoikis resistance in B-CPAP cells were further investigated. First, miR-363-3p was found to be down-regulated in PTC tissue, which was correlated with the advanced clinical stage and lymph node (LN) metastasis.

Objective: Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) and activator protein 1 (AP-1) are important transcription factors regulating expression of genes involved in cell survival. HIF-1α and c-Jun are key components of HIF-1 and AP-1, respectively, and are regulated by epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mediated cell signaling and tumor microenvironmental cues. The roles of HIF-1α and c-Jun in development of resistance to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with activating mutation of EGFR have not been explored.

Key Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine, Ministry of Health, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Molecular Nuclear Medicine, Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. Electronic address:

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common endocrine carcinoma. Our previous study revealed that punicalagin (PUN), an active component from pomegranate, triggered autophagic cell death and DNA damage response (DDR) in papillary thyroid carcinoma BCPAP cells. But the detailed anti-cancer mechanisms of punicalagin against PTC still remained to be further explored.
