Microplastics (MPs) have become pervasive in marine ecosystems, potentially causing environmental degradation, impacting ecological function, and posing a serious public health risk. Despite the widespread distribution of MPs, their vertical transport within a water column has limited understanding, representing a key knowledge gap in the development of water quality models to minimize these risks. In this study, 6152 individual particles of six common types of MPs were observed through water column experiments to examine a range of drivers of the vertical velocity of MPs, including particle density and size, biofilm growth, water temperature, and salinity.

In this study, the KOH-modified Fe-ZIF-derived carbon materials (Fe@NC-KOH-x) were designed for Fenton-like systems to enhance bisphenol A (BPA) removal from wastewater. Compared with the Fe@NC without KOH activation, the pore structure, BET (Brunner-Emmet-Teller) surface area, and oxygen-containing functional group of KOH-activated Fe@NC-KOH-x are dramatically improved, which increases the adsorption and catalytic performance. The Fe@NC-KOH-900/PMS system showed significant BPA removal reactivity across wide pH ranges and low doses of Fe@NC-KOH-900.

This study undertakes a systematic analysis of the hydrological changes before and after the implementation of the Comprehensive Remediation Project in the lower reaches of the Ganjiang River. It focuses on changes in downstream inflow, ratios of flow distribution, and water levels, as well as water velocity near the gates. The results indicate a significant improvement in the spatial distribution of water resources in the lower reaches of the Ganjiang River.

As a new type of pollutant, microplastics accumulate continuously in the environment. The environmental problems caused by microplastics have attracted wide attention. In this study, we collected water, sediment and four types of microplastics (film, foam, fiber and fragment) from wetland in East Lake area of Poyang Lake.

Magnetic Functional Nanomaterials CoZnREFeO (RE (rare-earth) = La,Sm,Gd) were prepared using the sol-gel combustion method. XRD characterization confirms that the ferrite samples we synthesized are single-phase cubic structures. The variation in the average crystalline size and lattice parameter is related to RE ion doping.

Perovskite is the largest mineral on earth and has a variety of excellent physical and chemical properties. LaRFeO (R = Co, Al, Nd, Sm) were synthesized using the sol-gel method and analyzed by XRD, TG-DTA, and VSM. With the increase in the Co doping content, the diffraction peak drifted in the direction of a larger angle.

Pydiflumetofen is a potent fungicide that effectively inhibits pathogenic fungal growth by regulating succinate dehydrogenase activity. It effectively prevents and treats various fungal diseases, including leaf spot, powdery mildew, grey mold, bakanae, scab, and sheath blight. Pydiflumetofen's hydrolytic and degradation properties were investigated indoors in four distinct soil types (phaeozems, lixisols, ferrosols, and plinthosols) to assess its risks in aquatic and soil environments.

In this work, new pendant N,N-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde-functionalized chitosan Schiff base composite (CS@MABA) was prepared from the simple and convenient condensation reaction between chitosan (CS) and N,N-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (MABA) in ethanol-glacial acetic acid (1:1 v/v) and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The as-prepared composite CS@MABA was applied for the removal of Pb(II) ions, due to the presence of imine, hydroxyl and phenyl groups, and the effects of important parameters such as solution pH, contact time and sorbent dosage on the removal percentage and adsorption capacity were investigated and discussed. The optimum conditions were found to be at pH 5, adsorbent dosage of 0.

In this study, Se@NC-x decorated with Se was successfully prepared via two-step calcination with zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF) as a precursor. Mechanistic studies show that PMS would be adsorbed onto the surface of Se@NC-900 to form an active complex (Se@NC-900/PMS*), and the active Se@NC-900/PMS* could oxidize phenol by the rapid decomposition of PMS. Specifically, electrons are extracted by Se@NC-900/PMS* and then transferred to the surface of Se@NC-900, which can trigger the degradation of phenol.

Biofilm-coated microplastics are omnipresent in aquatic environments, carrying different organic matter (OM) that in turn influences the flocculation and settling of microplastic aggregates. In this study, the effects of chitosan, guar gum, humic acid, and xanthan gum on the flocculation of anthropogenic microplastics are examined under controlled shear through the mixing chamber experiments. The results show that all of the selected OMs have positive effects on biofilm culturing and thus enhance the growth of microplastic flocs, with more evident promoting effects for cationic and neutral OMs (i.

The high-performance and free secondary pollution of the catalysts are the most critical issues in the peroxymonosulfate-based advanced oxidation processes (PMS-AOPs). In this research, the KOH was used to activate ZIF-8 derived carbon materials to synthesize the NC-KOH-x (x = 700, 800, 900 °C), which was an effective metal-free PMS activator. As-prepared NC-KOH-x showed significant improvement not only pore structure and BET surface area but also CO groups, and graphite N content, which were beneficial for the adsorptive and oxidative reaction.

Sodium p-perfluorous nonenoxybenzene sulfonate (OBS), a novel alternative to perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), is widely used in industry as a surfactant, firefighting foam and photographic material. The occurrence of OBS in the aquatic environment has been recently reported, but little information is available on its accumulation and toxic effects in aquatic organisms. In this study, zebrafish larvae (3 d post-fertilization) were subjected to OBS (10, 100 μg/L) and PFOS (10 μg/L) for a period of 48 h, followed by a 24 h of depuration period.

Although microplastics (MPs; < 5 mm) have been recognized as one of the most challenging environmental pollutants in the ocean, our understanding of the environmental fate of freshwater MPs falls far behind, particularly on smaller MPs (<0.1 mm). Here, we seek to reveal the latest MP pollution status in the largest freshwater lake of China, Poyang Lake, by comprehensively assessing the abundance, distribution, size, shape, polymer composition, and micro-morphology of MPs in water and sediment, covering a large geographic area of the Lake and its five main river tributaries.

Deformation monitoring is of importance to ensure the operation status of concrete-face rockfill dams (CFRD). This paper reported a novel fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) monitoring system for continuously monitoring face slab deformation of CFRD, which consisted of a permanent monitoring pipeline and a sensing vehicle. The monitoring pipeline was made of steel pipes and polyvinyl chloride polymer connectors, which was embedded in a slot of the crushing-type sidewall beneath the concrete face slab of CFRD, forming a permanent monitoring channel.
