This study examines the impact of China's low-carbon policies on labor demand in listed firms, focusing on command-and-control and market-based instruments. The research integrates a comprehensive dataset spanning 2007 to 2016, comprising employment and financial data, alongside an analysis of low-carbon policy intensity from 2007 to 2022. Results from fixed-effects panel data regression indicate that both types of policies positively influence labor demand, with command-and-control policies exhibiting a slightly stronger effect.

Article Synopsis
  • - Rural areas are shifting away from agriculture, which threatens farmland and global food security; a study focused on farmers in hilly regions revealed significant insights into their risk preferences and livelihood changes.
  • - Most rural households showed risk aversion, with 76.86% preferring safer options, and those focused on non-agricultural activities were found to be the most risk-averse compared to others.
  • - The study suggests that while moving away from agriculture can lead to higher profits and lower risks for some farmers, it may also create financial burdens; recommendations for a sustainable transition were offered.

White blood cell (WBC) morphology examination plays a crucial role in diagnosing many diseases. One of the most important steps in WBC morphology analysis is WBC image segmentation, which remains a challenging task. To address the problems of low segmentation accuracy caused by color similarity, uneven brightness, and irregular boundary between WBC regions and the background, a WBC image segmentation network based on U-Net combining residual networks and attention mechanism was proposed.

Ozone (O) has become the primary pollutant in many cities, and high concentrations of O cause significant harm to the ecological environment and human health. This study investigated the spatiotemporal distribution of surface concentrations of ozone over entire China and analyzed the influencing factors based on the geographical detector technique. Moreover, the Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the influence of various meteorological factors on ozone concentrations.

We report here that polysubstituted cyclopent-2-enols can be constructed by the one-pot reaction of doubly activated cyclopropanes and α-EWG substituted acetonitriles under mild basic conditions a domino-ring-opening-cyclization/deacylation/oxidation sequence. Moreover, the synthetic applications of these cyclopent-2-enols have been demonstrated in the late-stage derivatization into functionalized cyclopentapyrimidin-4-ones and 2-hydroxy cyclopentanones with good yields.

Three widely used interpersonal trust measurement scales [Interpersonal Trust Scale (ITS), Philosophies of Human Nature Scale (RPHNS), Company Trust Scale (CTS)] have seldom been applied in non-Western contexts. Different social environments may lead to variation in the level or structure of trust. Therefore, it is necessary to compare the applicability of these scales to different levels of trust-related traits in Eastern cultures so that researchers can choose appropriate scales for relevant studies.

With the avalanche of the newly found protein sequences in the post-genomic epoch, there is an increasing trend for annotating a number of newly discovered enzyme sequences. Among the various proteins, enzyme was considered as the one of the largest kind of proteins. It takes part in most of the biochemical reactions and plays a key role in metabolic pathways.
