Background: Acute variceal bleeding (AVB), a life-threatening complication of liver cirrhosis, can be effectively treated by endoscopy, but there is a risk of early rebleeding after endoscopic variceal treatment (EVT). Thrombocytopenia is the most common hemostatic abnormality in liver cirrhosis. However, it is still unclear about whether thrombocytopenia increases the failure of EVT in cirrhotic patients with AVB.

Background: Despite a consensus on the negative implications of problematic internet use (PIU) for mental health, there is a notable gap in research concerning older demographics, particularly older teachers. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of PIU and its impact on the mental wellbeing of this population.
Methods: Three sub-studies were conducted: Study 1 (2020) investigated how fear induced by COVID-19 influenced PIU and psychological distress among 3,929 older teachers.

This study aimed to explore the effects of different brining times on the sensory, physicochemical properties, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of marinated grass carp (MGC). The results showed that different brining time changed the sensory quality, color and texture. The moisture content increased significantly with the extension of brining time, while the salt content, protein content, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and total volatile basic‑nitrogen (TVB-N) decreased ( 0.

Incorporating a third component through ternary copolymerization strategy has proven to be a promising and effective approach for further improving the device performance of polymer donors. However, terpolymer donors typically exhibit negative effects on molecular stacking and weaken charge transport due to the irregular distribution of the polymer skeleton. Herein, two terpolymers PBBQ-5 (5% ff-Qx) and PBBQ-10 (10% ff-Qx) are developed by introducing the difluoro-2-(3-hexyldecyloxy) quinoxaline (ff-Qx) to the main chain of PM6.

In situ polymerization of cyclic ethers is a promising strategy to construct solid-state lithium (Li) metal batteries with high energy density and safety. However, their practical applications are plagued by the unsatisfactory electrochemical properties of polymer electrolytes and the unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Herein, organic perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) is proposed as a new initiator to polymerize 1,3-dioxolane electrolyte (PDOL), which enables the as-obtained PDOL electrolyte to deliver greatly enhanced ionic conductivity and broadened electrochemical window.

The role of RBM47, an RNA-binding protein, in shaping the immune landscape of gliomas and tumor immune responses is yet to be fully studied. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation into the immunomodulatory roles of RBM47 in gliomas was conducted, leveraging gene expression data from multi-omic datasets. The prognosis of patients with gliomas considering RBM47 was elucidated using bioinformatics methods and clinical data, with results validated using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence analyses.

Five racemic phthalides (1-5), including four undescribed phthalides monomers [(+)-1, (+)-2, (-)-2 and (-)-3], four undescribed phthalide dimers [(+)-4, (-)-4, (+)-5 and (-)-5], together with two known compounds [(-)-1 and (+)-3], were isolated from the aerial parts of Lycopodistrum casuarinoides. Their chemical structures were delineated by extensive spectroscopic data (UV, 1D/2D NMR, HRESIMS), in combination with the comparison of the experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra, calculated spin-spin coupling constants, and calculated NMR. All compounds were reported from Lycopodiaceae family for the first time.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) presents with symptoms that significantly affect patients' daily lives. Long-term MG therapies may lead to substantial side effects, predominantly due to prolonged immune suppression. Sirt6, which plays a vital role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and is recognised for its involvement in cytokine production in immune cells, has not yet been explored in relation to MG.

Diquat (DQ) is a pro-oxidant that generates free radicals in cells through redox reactions, leading to the induction of oxidative stress. During the processes of growth and reproduction, poultry are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress. Selenium yeast (SeY) serves as an organic selenium source characterized by high activity and low toxicity, imparting antioxidant effects.

Sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs) are widely used in the biomedical field but pose an environmental risk as ecotoxic pollutants. Developing eco-friendly methods to degrade SAs into harmless compounds is crucial. In this work, biochar (BC) was prepared from rice straw via pyrolysis and used to support S-nZVI, thereby forming the S-nZVI/BC composites.

BACKGROUND This study included 32 patients with single missing teeth and alveolar bone defects and aimed to compare outcomes from guided bone regeneration with a gelatin/polylactic acid (GT/PLA) barrier membrane and a Guidor® bioresorbable matrix barrier dental membrane. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 32 participants were recruited in the clinical study, with single missing teeth and alveolar bone defects, requiring guided bone regeneration (32 missing teeth in total). They were randomly divided into the GT/PLA membrane group (experimental) and Guidor® membrane group (control) by the envelope method (n=16).

Chrysoeriol (CHE) is a naturally occurring compound with established anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. This study examines its potential role in regulating osteoclast differentiation and activity, both of which are crucial for bone remodeling. Computational docking revealed high binding affinity between CHE and RANKL, specifically at the Lys-181 residue of RANKL, suggesting potential inhibitory interactions on osteoclastogenesis.

Uneven of filling aggregate gradation may cause transportation problems such as pipe blockage due to segregation and stratification of filling slurry. To study the influence of aggregate gradation on the conveying performance of filler slurry, aggregate gradation experiments were carried out, rheological tests on slurries with coal gangue/aeolian sand ratios (6:4, 5:5 and 4:6) showed that appropriately increasing the proportion of aeolian sand can improve particle gradation. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) scheme was used to simulate the pipeline transportation characteristics of the slurry under the conditions of three sets each of coal gangue/aeolian sand ratios, slurry concentrations (72%,74% and 76%), and inlet velocities (1.

The study aimed to elucidate the underlying pharmacological mechanism of the traditional Chinese medicine Pue in ameliorating myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI), a critical clinical challenge exacerbated by reperfusion therapy. In vivo MIRI and in vitro anoxia/reoxygenation (A/R) models were constructed. The results demonstrated that Pue pretreatment effectively alleviated MIRI, as manifested by diminishing the levels of serum CK-MB and LDH, mitigating the extent of myocardial infarction and enhancing cardiac functionality.
