Department of Oral Implantology, The Affiliated Stomatology Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Jiangxi Province Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedicine, Jiangxi Province Clinical Research Center for Oral Disease, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China.

BACKGROUND This study included 32 patients with single missing teeth and alveolar bone defects and aimed to compare outcomes from guided bone regeneration with a gelatin/polylactic acid (GT/PLA) barrier membrane and a Guidor® bioresorbable matrix barrier dental membrane. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 32 participants were recruited in the clinical study, with single missing teeth and alveolar bone defects, requiring guided bone regeneration (32 missing teeth in total). They were randomly divided into the GT/PLA membrane group (experimental) and Guidor® membrane group (control) by the envelope method (n=16).

Green Synthesis of Biocompatible Chiral Gold Nanoparticles.

Polymers (Basel)

November 2024

School of Stomatology, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330006, China.

Chiral gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) have been investigated widely and have shown great potential in biomedical applications, such as biosensing, combating bacterial infections and tissue regeneration. However, some stabilizers and reducing agents for the synthesis of chiral Au NPs can produce toxicity in living organisms. Therefore, it is interesting to design green methods to prepare chiral gold nanoparticles that are nontoxic, environment-friendly, and low-cost.

Electronic address:

Bacterial infections is one of the main factors delaying the wound healing, which has become a serious challenge for healthcare systems. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), which show broad-spectrum and excellent antibacterial activity, tend to aggregate easily and therefore hardly penetrate into bacterial biofilms, showing limited anti-biofilm properties. Herein, alginate (ALG) modified ZnO NPs (ZnO@ALG) were prepared via the combination of mussel-inspired method and "thiol-Michael" click reaction, which showed excellent dispersion and biocompatibility.

February 2024

The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330006, China.

Objectives: This work aimed to evaluate the effect of speed sintering and low-temperature degradation on the translucency of high-translucent zirconia.

Methods: The ST and TT specimens were randomly divided into two groups depending on the sintering process: conventional sintering and speed sintering. The sintered specimens were divided into three subgroups according to the aging time: aged for 0, 5, and 20 h.

School of Stomatology, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330006, China; School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330031, China; Jiangxi Province Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedicine, Nanchang 330006, China; Jiangxi Province Clinical Research Center for Oral Disease, Nanchang 330006, China. Electronic address:

Insufficient bone regeneration and bacterial infection are two major concerns of bone repair materials. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) have been widely used in bone tissue engineering (BTE), however, lack of osteogenic and antibacterial properties have greatly limit its clinical application. Herein, PLLA membrane was firstly treated with polydopamine (PDA), and then modified with ε-polylysine (ε-PL) and alginate (ALG) via layer-by-layer method.

Polylactide (PLA) is one of the most promising polymers that has been widely used for the repair of damaged tissues due to its biocompatibility and biodegradability. PLA composites with multiple properties, such as mechanical properties and osteogenesis, have been widely investigated. Herein, PLA/graphene oxide (GO)/parathyroid hormone (rhPTH(1-34)) nanofiber membranes were prepared using a solution electrospinning method.

The surface ligands of nanoparticles (NPs) play essential roles in material synthesis, properties, and applications. Chiral molecules have been the new hot topic in tuning the properties of inorganic NPs. Herein, l-arginine- and d-arginine-stabilized ZnO NPs were prepared, and the TEM, UV-vis, and PL spectra were investigated, which demonstrated that the l-arginine and d-arginine have different effects on the self-assembly and photoluminescence properties of ZnO NPs, showing an evident chiral effect.

Mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG) is widely used in bone tissue repairing and drug loading. However, burst release of drug and poor compatibility with other materials limited its application. It is an effective way to modify MBG with a polymer brush to improve the properties.

Bone-tissue engineering is an alternative treatment for bone defects with great potential in which scaffold is a critical factor to determine the effect of bone regeneration. Electrospun nanofibers are widely used as scaffolds in the biomedical field for their similarity with the structure of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Their unique characteristics are: larger surface areas, porosity and processability; these make them ideal candidates for bone-tissue engineering.
