Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the effectiveness of a surgical procedure called para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy combined with chemoradiation therapy in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer that has spread to pelvic lymph nodes.
  • It compared two groups: one receiving the surgical treatment plus therapy and another group receiving only therapy, and looked at their survival and complications over time.
  • Although the surgical group had surgery-related delays and higher rates of lymph node metastasis, they showed improved survival rates after five years, particularly in patients with larger or more numerous lymph node metastases.

Objective: QL1604 is a highly selective, humanized monoclonal antibody against programmed death protein 1. We assessed the efficacy and safety of QL1604 plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in patients with advanced cervical cancer.

Methods: This was a multicenter, open-label, single-arm, phase II study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic value and treatment-related complications of radical hysterectomy with those of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally resectable (T1a2-T2a1) stage IIIC1r cervical cancer.

Methods: A total of 213 patients with locally resectable stage IIIC1r cervical cancer who had been treated at Jiangxi Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital between January 2013 and December 2021 were included in the study and classified into two groups: surgery (148 patients) and CCRT (65 patients). The disease-free survival (DFS) rate, overall survival (OS) rate, side effects, and economic costs associated with the two groups were compared.

Background: Chemotherapy resistance is a leading cause of treatment failure in cases of cervical adenocarcinoma (ADC), and no effective treatment approach has yet been found. We previously identified the differentially expressed kynureninase (KYNU) mRNA in cervical adenocarcinoma cells (HeLa) and cervical adenocarcinoma cisplatin resistance cells (HeLa/DDP) using gene chips. However, the role and potential mechanism of KYNU in the cisplatin resistance of cervical adenocarcinoma remain unclear.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic value and treatment-related complications of adjuvant chemotherapy after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC).

Design: The medical records of LACC patients who underwent CCRT were reviewed retrospectively.

Methods: A total of 1,138 patients with LACC who had been treated at our hospital between January 2013 and December 2017 were included in the study and classified into two groups: the CCRT group, comprising 726 patients who had received only CCRT, and the CCRT + adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) group, comprising 412 patients who had received three cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy after CCRT.

Characterization of bla-positive carbapenem-resistant strains isolated in Guangzhou, China.

Ann Clin Microbiol Antimicrob

May 2023

Laboratory Medicine Center, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Tonghe, Guangzhou, 510515, China.

Background: Carbapenemase-producing makes a great contribution to carbapenem resistance in Gram-negative bacilli. Bla gene was first discovered by us in Alcaligenes faecalis AN70 strain isolated in Guangzhou of China and, was submitted to NCBI on 16 November 2018.

Methods: Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by broth microdilution assay using BD Phoenix 100.

Imatinib mesylate (IM) resistance has become a major clinical problem for chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). It is known that Bcl-x splicing is deregulated and is involved in multiple malignant cancer initiation and chemotherapy resistance, including CML. The aim of the present study was to correct the abnormal splicing of Bcl-x in CML and investigate the subsequent malignant phenotype changes, especially response to IM.

Objective: To delineate the variants spectrum of phenytalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene among 78 unrelated patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) from Jiangxi province.

Methods: The 13 exons and flanking intronic regions of the PAH gene were subjected to PCR amplification and sequencing.

Results: A total of 143 variants were detected among the 156 alleles, which included 54 types of variants, which yielded a detection rate of 91.

TLR2 agonist Pam3CSK4 enhances the antibacterial functions of GM-CSF induced neutrophils to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

A proliferation of studies have demonstrated that the toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) pathway affects the chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and cytokine release of neutrophils when pathogens invade. Our previous studies have demonstrated that pretreatment with high doses of Pam3CSK4 (>25 μg/ml) improves the antimicrobial activity of neutrophils, however, short-lived neutrophils limit their therapeutic functions. Here, we used granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) to generate neutrophils from murine bone marrow, and assessed their effect on the immune response against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Therapeutic effect of daphnetin on the autoimmune arthritis through demethylation of proapoptotic genes in synovial cells.

J Transl Med

Department of Immunology, Medical College of Nanchang University; Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy, Nanchang University and Jiangxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Nanchang, China.

Background: We have previously reported that dephnetin is therapeutically effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model. However, the molecular mechanism and the effect of daphnetin on demethylating proapoptotic genes in the synovial cells remains further clarified. This study may provide a deeper insight into the medicinal application of daphnetin as a treatment for RA.
