Immunosuppression and malnutrition play pivotal roles in the complications of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and are intricately linked to the development of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). Inflammatory markers, including NLR (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio), SII (systemic immune inflammation index), SIRI (systemic inflammatory response index), and SIS (systemic inflammation score), along with nutritional indexes such as CONUT (controlling nutritional status) and PNI (prognostic nutritional index), are crucial indicators influencing the inflammatory state following ICH. In this study, our objective was to compare the predictive efficacy of inflammatory and nutritional indices for SAP in ICH patients, aiming to determine and explore their clinical utility in early pneumonia detection.

3D mapping and classification of tibial plateau fractures.

Bone Joint Res

June 2020

Department of Orthopaedics, Tongji Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates tibial plateau fractures (TPFs), complex knee injuries, using a 3D mapping technique to understand their distribution and classification better.
  • A retrospective review of 759 adult patients revealed that most fractures concentrated around key ligament insertions and specific areas of the tibia, highlighting "hot" and "cold" zones.
  • The research found that TPFs predominantly occur in the lateral and intermedial columns and that certain classifications, like the four-column and nine-segment systems, effectively correspond with the observed fracture patterns.

Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Institution of Laboratory Medicine of Changshu, Changshu 215500, Jiangsu, China. Electronic address:

This report sought to establish the mechanistic role of sirtuin-1 (Sirt1), a NAD-dependent deacetylase in the modulation of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) pathogenesis. 64 PBC patients (diagnosed based on practice guidelines for American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases) and 60 healthy controls were included in this study. Clinically, the mRNA expression level of Sirt1 in macrophages differentiated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of PBC subjects substantially decreased when compared with the healthy controls but not in other Sirt family genes (Sirt2-7).

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in a variety of biological processes by regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. So, the discovery of new miRNAs has become a popular task in biological research. Since the experimental identification of miRNAs is time-consuming, many computational tools have been developed to identify miRNA precursor (pre-miRNA).

Objective: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) and radiologically inserted gastrostomy (RIG) have gained increasing popularity among clinicians and motor neuron disease (MND) patients for maintaining adequate nutritional intake. However, there is no consistent evidence of the efficacy and safety of the two techniques in MND patients. We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the technical success rates, complication rates and 30-day mortality of MND patients receiving PEG and RIG.

Purpose: The existing classification systems of tibial plateau fracture (TPF) are suboptimal for clinical use and academic communication. A more comprehensive and universal classification system with the capability to analyze all patterns of TPF is urgently required to guide the clinical practice. This study aimed to analyze the incidence and fracture characteristics of TPF using a computed tomography-based "four-column and nine-segment" classification.

MicroRNA-101 down-regulates sphingosine kinase 1 in colorectal cancer cells.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

August 2015

Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Institute of Radiotherapy & Oncology, Soochow University, Suzhou, China. Electronic address:

MicroRNAs (miRs) dysregulation is a general feature of colorectal cancer (CRC) and other solid tumors, and is associated cancer progression. In the current study, we demonstrate that microRNA-101 (miR-101) inhibits CRC cells probably through down-regulating sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1). Our results showed that exogenously expressing miR-101 inhibited CRC cell (HT-29 and HCT-116 lines) growth in vitro.
