BMC Nurs

November 2024

Department of Nursing, Jiangsu Province Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Provincial Maternal and Child Health Center), Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, 210029, China.

Background: Nurses' self-care has been reported to enhance nurses' mental health and the quality of care they provide to patients. However, there is a scarcity of studies exploring the factors that influence nurses' self-care. Consequently, this study aims to investigate the current status of nurses' self-care ability and its influencing factors, thereby providing a reference for formulating effective strategies to improve nurses' self-care.

Hypoxia has been highly proven a hallmark of tumor micro-environment, promoting the malignant phenotypes, playing a crucial role from tumor initiation, progression, invasion, and intravasation to metastatic dissemination and outgrowth. Increasing evidence also showed that hypoxia mediated the abnormal lipid metabolism in cancer by regulating various oncogenic signal pathways. However, it is still unclear but attractive how hypoxia specifically functioned and changed the condition of the tumor micro-environment.

Patients on maintenance hemodialysis exhibit a notably higher risk of cardio-cerebrovascular complications that constitute the major cause of death. Preceding studies have reported conflicting associations between traditional lipid measures and clinical outcome in dialysis patients. In this prospective longitudinal study, we utilized quantitative lipidomics to elucidate, at molecular resolution, changes in lipidome profiles of erythrocyte and plasma samples collected from maintenance hemodialysis patients followed up for 86 months (≈7 years).

Background: For patients with hormone receptor-positive HER2-negeative metastatic breast cancer (HRHER2 MBC), switching to another cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) or targeted drugs with different mechanism are considerable treatment strategies post-CDK4/6i. However, no clinical data has been reported on which of the two strategies is more effective. In order to explore optimal treatment option post-CDK4/6i, we performed a retrospective comparative cohort study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of abemaciclib-based therapy versus tucidinostat-based therapy after progression on palbociclib.

Objective: To explore the safety, feasibility, and technical points of the improved circumcision procedure assisted by a precise marking method circumcision device.

Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 41 cases of modified foreskin circumcision using precise marking method in the urology department of our hospital from February 2021 to January 2023 as the observation group, and 60 cases of traditional foreskin circumcision assisted by traditional foreskin circumcision during the same period as the control group. Compare and analyze indicators such as the distance from the anastomotic margin to the coronal sulcus, postoperative erectile tension, edema, hematoma, postoperative infection, and the presence of sexual intercourse pain between two groups of patients.

An oncogene regulating chromatin favors response to immunotherapy: Oncogene CHAF1A and immunotherapy outcomes.

Oncoimmunology

January 2024

Department of Oncology, Digestive Disease Institute&Cancer Institute of Jiangsu University, Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, China.

Many biological processes related to cell function and fate begin with chromatin alterations, and many factors associated with the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are actually downstream events of chromatin alterations, such as genome changes, neoantigen production, and immune checkpoint expression. However, the influence of genes as chromatin regulators on the efficacy of ICIs remains elusive, especially in gastric cancer (GC). In this study, thirty out of 1593 genes regulating chromatin associated with a favorable prognosis were selected for GC.

To investigate the clinicopathological, immunophenotypic, and genetic features of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). Twenty-three cases of MPNST were diagnosed at the Jiangsu Province Hospital (the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University), China, between January 2012 and December 2022 and thus included in the study. EnVision immunostaining and next-generation sequencing (NGS) were used to examine their immunophenotypical characteristics and genomic aberrations, respectively.

Background: Endocrine therapy (ET) and ET-based regimens are the preferred first-line treatment options for hormone receptor (HR)-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative metastatic breast cancer (HR+/HER2- MBC), while chemotherapy (CT) is commonly used in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and clinical outcome of ET and CT as first-line treatment in Chinese patients with HR+/HER2- MBC.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with HR+/HER2-MBC between January 1st, 1996 and September 30th, 2018 were screened from the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer database.

Chinese expert consensus on prevention and control interventions for older adults with physical functional impairment (2022).

Aging Med (Milton)

March 2023

Center of Gerontology and Geriatrics, China National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Medicine West China Hospital, Sichuan University Chengdu China.

Older adults are at high risk for functional impairment, which is closely related to sarcopenia, falls, and frailty. This seriously affects their quality of life and health, and places a heavy burden on society and families. Although domestic and foreign sports recommendations and prevention and control guidelines/expert consensus have been issued for healthy older adults and functional impairment-related diseases, there is no guidance on prevention and control interventions for older adults with physical functional impairment.

To explore the prognostic values of baseline 2-deoxy-2-[F] fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) dissemination parameter in angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and its added values to total metabolic tumour volume (TMTV). Eighty-one AITL patients with at least two FDG-avid lesions in baseline PET/CT were retrospectively included. PET parameters including TMTV and the distance between the two lesions that are the furthest apart (Dmax) were obtained.

Evidence on the association of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) and obesity during the first 5 years of life is limited in China. The objective of this study was to examine the associations between weight, weight for age score (ZWAZ), weight for length/height score (ZWHZ), and body mass index for age score (ZBMI) and 25(OH)D. This was a large population-based cross-sectional multicenter study in which the children aged 0-5 years were recruited from 12 children's healthcare centers by a stratified cluster random-sampling method in 10 cities of the Jiangsu province, China.

Purpose: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy is now the stand of care for lung cancer. Due to the low incidence, the study of acute kidney injury (AKI) in lung cancer patients treated with ICIs was hardly reported. We focused on the incidence, characteristics, risk factors, and mortality of AKI in advanced lung cancer patients receiving PD-1 inhibitors.

Article Synopsis
  • Malnutrition results from inadequate intake or use of energy and nutrients, affecting both physical and mental health, especially in the elderly, and leading to poor clinical outcomes.
  • It's a widespread issue among older adults, significantly straining medical resources and society due to various risk factors such as demographics, chronic diseases, and psychosocial issues.
  • The current recommendations for addressing malnutrition in China's elderly population are inconsistent, prompting efforts to develop standardized prevention and intervention strategies based on global evidence and local clinical experience.
