N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays a crucial regulatory role in muscle growth and development. In our previous studies, we identified a m6A methyltransferase, Methyltransferase like 16 (METTL16), which is associated with chicken muscle development and muscle fiber type conversion. To further understand the regulatory role of METTL16 in chicken muscle function, we analyzed its expression in muscle tissues with different myofiber type compositions and in chicken primary myoblasts (CPMs) at various stages.

Increased consumption of folic acid is prevalent due to its beneficial effects, but growing evidence emphasizes the side effects pointing to excessive dietary folate intake. The effects of excessive paternal folic acid consumption on offspring and its transgenerational inheritance mechanism have not been elucidated. We hypothesize that excessive folic acid consumption will alter sperm DNA N6-methyladenine (6mA) and 5-methylcytosine (5mC) methylation and heritably influence offspring metabolic homeostasis.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common form of chronic liver disease. Little is known about how gene expression and chromatin structure are regulated in NAFLD due to lack of suitable model. Ducks naturally develop fatty liver similar to serious human non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) without adipose inflammation and liver fibrosis, thus serves as a good model for investigating molecular mechanisms of adipose metabolism and anti-inflammation.

Intestinal microorganisms are closely related to the health, development, and production performance of animals and can also provide basic information for us to fully understand and explore the germplasm characteristics and traits of local chicken breeds. In this experiment, we used five local Chinese chicken breeds as research materials; metagenomic sequencing technology was used to explore the differences in the composition of intestinal microorganisms in different breeds, and it was found that each local chicken breed had unique unigenes, of which Silkies had the most, with a total of 12,948. GO and KEGG analyses found that the biological processes most enriched by differential functional genes include genetic coding, macromolecular transport, protein synthesis, and molecular functions such as glycoprotein binding, protein hydrolysis, etc.
