Background: Depending on the context, the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway is involved in opposing cell processes of tumor suppression and tumor promotion. However, the effects of TGF-β pathway on immunotherapy efficacy have not yet been systematically investigated.
Methods: In this study, we have extracted the available data of whole-exome sequencing, messenger RNA (mRNA) expression, baseline characterization, and prognosis information of 10,912 pan-cancer patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas to explore the role of TGF-β pathway in immune regulation.

Background: Small nucleolar RNA host gene 6 (SNHG6) regulates diverse biological processes in cancers. Potential function of SNHG6 in human colon and rectal adenocarcinoma (CRC) was evaluated.
Methods: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, MTT assays, Colony formation assays, Transwell assay, Western Blotting and Luciferase reporter assays were performed to measure the biological functions and potential molecular mechanisms of SNHG6 in CRC.

Purpose: To assess the benefits of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors as neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapies in locally advanced mutation-positive non-small-cell lung cancer.
Patients And Methods: This was a multicenter (17 centers in China), open-label, phase II, randomized controlled trial of erlotinib versus gemcitabine plus cisplatin (GC chemotherapy) as neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy in patients with stage IIIA-N2 non-small-cell lung cancer with mutations in exon 19 or 21 (EMERGING). Patients received erlotinib 150 mg/d (neoadjuvant therapy, 42 days; adjuvant therapy, up to 12 months) or gemcitabine 1,250 mg/m plus cisplatin 75 mg/m (neoadjuvant therapy, two cycles; adjuvant therapy, up to two cycles).

Stressful life events are thought to be triggering factors of numerous neuropsychiatric disorders, including anxiety and depression. However, the interactions between chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) and immune stimulation have not been thoroughly investigated. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge at different time points on CUMS-induced anxiety- and depression-like behaviors.

Purpose: The optimal radiation dose for patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has long been debated. We undertook the retrospective study to evaluate the survival impact of high dose vs standard dose in patients with stage II-III esophageal cancer treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
Results: A total of 137 patients were included in our study, 63 patients classified as standard-dose group and 74 as high-dose group.

This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of the establishment of a human cancer xenograft model using samples from computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous biopsy. Fresh tumor tissues obtained from 10 cancer patients by CT-guided percutaneous biopsy were subcutaneously inoculated into NOD-Prkdcem26Il2rgem26Nju (NCG) mice to establish human patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDTX) models. The formation of first and second generation xenografts was observed, and tumor volume was recorded over time.

Pemetrexed combined with platinum is a first-line therapy used to treat patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that exhibit negative or unknown epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutational status or anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements. Lung adenocarcinoma (LAC) is the primary type of NSCLC. In order to prevent overtreatment, it is necessary to identify patients with LAC who may not benefit from certain chemotherapies.

Objective: CT-guided transthoracic biopsy is a well-established method in the cytologic or histologic diagnosis of pulmonary lesions. The knowledge of its diagnostic performance and complications for cavitary pulmonary lesions is limited. The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy and safety of CT-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in cavitary pulmonary lesions.

Background: The safety of using a cutting needle when performing a core-needle biopsy is of major concern, in particular for small lung tumors or tumors near the hilum.
Purpose: To investigate the usefulness of CT-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of the lung in obtaining tumor tissue for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation analysis in advanced lung cancer patients.
Material And Methods: Forty-three patients with stage IIIB-IV lung cancer were enrolled.

Background: To investigate the mutations of p53 gene at the resection margins of the bronchus and cancer tissues , and to predict lung cancer recurrence.
Methods: PCR-SSCP technique was used to detect mutation of p53 gene at the resection margin of the bronchus (no cancer cells remained by gross pathological examination) , cancer tissue and normal tissue of the lungs in 50 patients with lung cancers and 7 patients with non-cancerous pulmonary diseases. Local recurrence at the resection margin of bronchus and distant metastasis were investigated.

Five cases of primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the ovary (OPNHL) are reported. All were B cell lymphomas (1 small cleaved, 2 non-cleaved and 2 cleaved non-cleaved lymphoma) and treated with operation combined with chemotherapy, 2 of whom also received radiotherapy. One case died 15 months after operation, 4 are still alive, and 2 of these 4 have survived for over 3 years.
