Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignancy with high global incidence and mortality rates, posing a serious threat to human health. Despite favorable outcomes following early detection and surgical intervention, the asymptomatic nature of CRC often results in delayed diagnoses, limiting surgical treatment options. Furthermore, effective therapeutic drugs for CRC remain lacking in clinical practice, highlighting an urgent need to identify novel therapeutic targets.

Electronic address:

Ocular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) are the leading cause of vision loss. Ocular inflammation often occurs in the early stage of DM; however, there are no proven quantitative methods to evaluate the inflammatory status of eyes in DM. The 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO) is an evolutionarily conserved cholesterol binding protein localized in the outer mitochondrial membrane.

Article Synopsis
  • Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are over 200 nucleotides long and have been found to play a significant role in cancer by influencing processes like cell death, growth, and the spread of cancer cells.
  • Research has shown that autophagy, the body's way of removing damaged cells and proteins, can have both protective and harmful effects in cancer scenarios, particularly when lncRNA expression is not regulated properly.
  • The manuscript emphasizes the need to understand how lncRNAs interact with autophagy, as this relationship could have important implications for cancer treatment and research.

May 2024

Department of Biliary Surgery, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200032, China; Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Biliary Tract Minimal Invasive Surgery and Materials, Shanghai, 200032, China. Electronic address:

The utilization of biodegradable magnesium (Mg) alloys in the fabrication of temporary non-vascular stents is an innovative trend in biomedical engineering. However, the heterogeneous degradation profiles of these biomaterials, together with potential bacterial colonization that could precipitate infectious or stenotic complications, are critical obstacles precluding their widespread clinical application. In pursuit of overcoming these limitations, this study applies the principles of biomimicry, particularly the hydrophobic and anti-fouling characteristics of lotus leaves, to pioneer the creation of nanocomposite coatings.

Background: Given the intricate molecular complexities and heterogeneity inherent in T-cell immunotherapy of gastric cancer (GC), elucidative T-cell-related biomarkers were imperative needed for facilitating the prediction of GC patient prognosis and identify potential synergistic therapeutic targets.

Methods: We conducted COX regression analysis in TISIDB, TCGA-STAD, and GEO databases to identify 19 GC T-cell-mediated sensitivity tumor killing (TTK) genes (key GCTTKs). Based on key GCTTKs, we constructed two TTK patterns and analyzed their metabolic pathways, mutation features, clinical data distribution, immune cell infiltration, and prognosis.

Background: The incidence of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) continues to rapidly increase, with limited available treatment options. One of the hallmarks of DKD is persistent inflammation, but the underlying molecular mechanisms of early diabetic kidney injury remain poorly understood. C-X-C chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2), plays an important role in the progression of inflammation-related vascular diseases and may bridge between glomerular endothelium and persistent inflammation in DKD.

Background: The gradual evolution of the detection and quantification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) has been instrumental in cancer diagnosis. The primary objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic potential of exhaled breath and urinary VOCs in cancer detection. As VOCs are indicative of tumor and human metabolism, our work also sought to investigate the metabolic pathways linked to the development of cancerous tumors.

Department of General Surgery, The affiliated Wuxi No. 2 People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, China; Department of General Surgery, Jiangnan University Medical Center, Wuxi, China; Wuxi Clinical College, Nantong University, Wuxi, China. Electronic address:

The role of the Immunoglobulin Superfamily (IgSF) as adhesion molecules in orchestrating inflammation is pivotal, yet its specific involvement in gastric cancer (GC) remains unknown. We analyzed IgSF components and discerned conspicuously elevated VCAM1 expression in GC, correlating with a poor prognosis. Remarkably, VCAM1 enhances GC cell proliferation and migration by activating AKT-mTOR signaling.

Background And Objective: In cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is considered one of the leading causes of human death, and its diagnosis mainly relies on the detection of the cardiac biomarker troponin I. Traditional detection methods have certain limitations, which has prompted the development of methods with higher sensitivity and specificity. In recent years, biosensors, as an emerging technology, have been widely applied in the clinical medicine and biodetection fields.

It has been reported that prolyl 4-hydroxylase subunit alpha 1 (P4HA1) promoted tumor growth and metastasis of glioma; thus, targeting P4HA1 may be a promising therapeutic strategy against glioma. In consideration of the instability of siRNA in vivo, the chitosan-gelatin microspheres loaded with P4HA1 siRNA (P4HA1 siRNA@CGM) were employed. Firstly, the gel electrophoresis and hemolytic test were performed to assess the stability and blood compatibility of P4HA1 siRNA@CGM.
