Cancer metastasis is a major cause of death among women afflicted with breast cancer (BC) and understanding the molecular processes involved is a major focus in BC research. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as genomic regulatory molecules in carcinogenesis and metastasis; however, their role in BC is unclear. We characterized a novel circRNA, hsa_circ_0000515, in context of BC.

Mesenchymal stem cells regulate the Th17/Treg cell balance partly through hepatocyte growth factor in vitro.

Stem Cell Res Ther

February 2020

Department of Critical Care Medicine, Jiangdu People's Hospital of Yangzhou, Jiangdu People's Hospital Affiliated with the Medical College of Yangzhou University, Yangzhou, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exert immunomodulatory functions by inducing the development and differentiation of naive T cells into T cells with an anti-inflammatory regulatory T cell (Treg) phenotype. Our previous study showed that hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) secreted by MSCs had immunomodulatory effects in the context of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. We hypothesized that HGF is a key factor in the MSC-mediated regulation of the T helper 17 (Th17) cell/regulatory T (Treg) cell balance.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how effective Carfilzomib is against mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and compare it to Bortezomib.
  • Results showed that Carfilzomib inhibited the growth of MCL cells in a time- and concentration-dependent manner, outperforming Bortezomib when tested on primary MCL cells.
  • Furthermore, Carfilzomib demonstrated a significantly greater ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells compared to Bortezomib, suggesting it may be a more effective treatment option for MCL.

Background: Accumulating evidence has highlighted the tumor suppressive roles of microRNA (miRNAs) in cervical cancer (CC). In the present study, we aim to delineate the functional relevance of microRNA-137 (miR-137) in influencing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and other CC cell biological activities via the TGF-β/smad pathway by binding to GREM1.

Methods: Microarray analysis was initially adopted to predict the differentially expressed genes and the miRNAs related to CC, followed by the measurement of the expression patterns of GREM1, EMT-related factors in the CC tissues and the adjacent tissues.
