Prostate cancer (PCa) is a highly common type of malignancy and affects millions of men in the world since it is easy to recur or emerge therapy resistance. Therefore, it is urgent to find novel treatments for PCa patients. In the current study, we found that tegaserod maleate (TM), an FDA-approved agent, inhibited proliferation, colony formation, migration as well as invasion, caused the arrest of the cell cycle, and promoted apoptosis of PCa cells in vitro.

Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic and debilitating condition characterized by pelvic pain and urinary urgency and frequency with an unclear etiology. Emerging evidence implicates microbiome dysbiosis-disruptions in the microbial communities inhabiting the body-in IC/BPS pathophysiology. This review synthesizes the literature on microbial alterations in IC/BPS, including urinary, vaginal, and gastrointestinal microbiota, and their interactions with host inflammatory and metabolic pathways.

Objective: To conduct a meta-analysis assessing the diagnostic performance of the node reporting and data system (Node-RADS) for detecting lymph node (LN) invasion.
Method: We performed a systematic literature search of online scientific publication databases from inception up to July 31, 2024. We used the quality assessment of diagnostic accuracy studies-2 (QUADAS-2) to assess the study quality, and heterogeneity was determined by the Q-test and measured with I statistics.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive cancer with variable treatment responses. While clinical factors such as age and genetic mutations contribute to prognosis, recent studies suggest that CT attenuation scores may also predict treatment outcomes. This study aims to develop a nomogram combining clinical and CT-based factors to predict treatment response and guide personalized therapy for AML patients.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the association of folate levels, including red blood cell (RBC) and serum folate with mortality (cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related, all-cause, and cancer-related) in patients with arthritis.
Methods: We integrated and analyzed the data from the 1999-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to conduct this study. Weighted Cox proportional hazard regression, restricted cubic spline (RCS) model, and subgroup analysis were used to analyze the association of RBC and serum folate levels with all-cause, cancer-related, and CVD-related mortality.

Background: Prostate cancer was the fourth most diagnosed cancer worldwide in 2022. Radical treatments and androgen deprivation therapy benefit newly diagnosed patients but impact quality of life, often leading to castration-resistant prostate cancer. Short-term dietary changes significantly affect the gut microbiota, which differs markedly between prostate cancer patients and healthy individuals, impacting both cancer progression and treatment response.

While potentially valuable for noninvasive evaluation, the proposed imaging criteria of VETC require external validation. This study aimed to evaluate the performance and prognostic value of these imaging criteria via CT and gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI.

Background: Plasmalogens, the primary phospholipids in the brain, possess intrinsic antioxidant properties and are crucial components of the myelin sheath surrounding neuronal axons. While their neuroprotective effects have been demonstrated in Alzheimer's disease, their potential benefits in spinal cord injury remain unexplored. This study investigates the reparative effects of plasmalogens on spinal cord injury and the underlying mechanisms.

There are multiple bioactive substances in the mosquito saliva, most of which are allergic to humans. Previous studies have demonstrated that mosquito bites may induce allergic reactions mediated by B and T lymphocytes, resulting in a reduction in the quality of life and even death among patients. To date, 11 salivary allergens and 8 non-salivary allergens have been characterized in mosquitoes.

During surgical procedures, skin and soft tissue wounds are often infected by resistant strains of gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria, resulting in serious obstacles to the healing of these wounds. Commercially available dressings for such wounds are still insufficient to combat resistant infections. Here, we designed vancomycin and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) loaded poly(vinyl)-pyrrolidone-gelatine nanofiber's membrane dressing for potential synergistic efficiency against infected post-surgical wounds.

Background: A close relationship exists between castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and histidine metabolism by gut microbes. However, the effects of the histidine metabolite imidazole propionate (IMP) on prostate cancer (PCa) and its underlying mechanisms are not well understood.
Methods: We first assessed the effects of IMP on cell proliferation and migration at the cellular level.
Background: Our study aimed at evaluating the association between plasma human cartilage glycoprotein-39 (YKL-40) and cognitive impairment at 3 months among patients with acute ischemic stroke.
Methods And Results: Plasma YKL-40 levels were measured in 604 participants from the China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke. Cognitive impairment outcomes were assessed at 3 months poststroke using the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy, durability and safety of intravitreal faricimab versus aflibercept over 48 weeks in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) from the LUCERNE China subpopulation.
Design: LUCERNE (NCT03823300) was a phase 3 global, double-masked, active comparator-controlled trial. The China subpopulation comprised patients from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether circulating pyruvate kinase M2 (PK-M2) levels are elevated in the peripheral blood and to assess their association with diagnosis and prognosis in patients with heart failure (HF).
Methods And Results: We conducted a prospective investigation involving 222 patients with HF and 103 control subjects, measuring PK-M2 concentrations using ELISA. The primary outcome, assessed over a median follow-up of 2 years (interquartile range: 776 to 926 days), was the time to the first occurrence of either rehospitalization for worsening HF or cardiovascular death.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignancy with high global incidence and mortality rates, posing a serious threat to human health. Despite favorable outcomes following early detection and surgical intervention, the asymptomatic nature of CRC often results in delayed diagnoses, limiting surgical treatment options. Furthermore, effective therapeutic drugs for CRC remain lacking in clinical practice, highlighting an urgent need to identify novel therapeutic targets.

Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by the involvement of numerous inflammatory cells and factors. Therefore, targeting airway inflammation is one of the crucial strategies for developing novel drugs in the treatment of asthma. Phosphoinositide 3-kinase gamma (PI3Kγ) has been demonstrated to have a significant impact on inflammation and immune responses, thus emerging as a promising therapeutic target for airway inflammatory disease, including asthma.

Background: The massive harmful effects of cigarette (tobacco) smoking on reproduction and fecundity are apparent. Even smoking cessation is often suggested for infertility patients by clinic doctors, while the impact of smoking cessation on semen quality in patients with oligoasthenospermia is uncovered.
Methods: Ninety oligoasthenospermia patients with long tobacco smoking history were directed by andrology doctors to cease smoking, and their cessation was followed up for 3 to 6 months.
