Purpose: Recent studies have shown that TIM3 plays an important role in T-cell failure, which is closely related to the resistance to anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) treatment. However, there have been no reports on the application of peptide blockers to TIM3. In this study, we endeavored to identify the in vitro and in vivo anti-tumor activities of a TIM3-targeting peptide screened from the phage peptide library.

Free flap reconstruction after resection in paediatric patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) has various clinical challenges, which have not yet been fully investigated. This retrospective study was implemented to investigate these factors. Paediatric patients (≤14 years old) who underwent free flap reconstructions following surgery for HNC at a tertiary referral centre during the years 2009-2018 were included.

Background: RapaLink-1 is a third generation mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor and displays superior inhibitory effect on mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1). mTOR pathway is known to block autophagy and inhibition of it can protect thrombosis-related diseases including atherosclerosis, antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and stroke. The objective of this study was to investigate whether RapaLink-1 could exert anti-thrombotic effects on APS via improving autophagy.

Latest statistics showed that the morbidity and mortality of colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, around the world. COAD was a heterogeneous disease, and the high rates of recurrence, metastasis, and drug resistance still posed great challenges for treatment, which needs to further develop therapeutic and prognostic targets. In this study, we got the top 3,075 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 1,613 potential prognostic genes by GEPIA 2 and identified 1,166 fitness genes in COAD based on genome-scale CRISPR-Cas9 knockout (GeCKO) screening data.

Objective: This study compared the efficacy and tolerability of sodium valproate and aripiprazole in the treatment of Tourette syndrome (TS).
Method: 24 children and adolescents with a diagnosis of TS from the Jiamusi Central Hospital between January 2014 and August 2017 were randomly divided into sodium valproate group and aripiprazole group according to the order of clinic visits and treated for 10 days. Tic severity was rated using the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) and the Clinical Global Impressions Scale for tics (CGI-Tics) and the adverse reactions were valued using the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS) at baseline and at each follow-up visit.

The effects of acarbose and sitagliptin on blood glucose fluctuation and islet β-cell function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were studied. One hundred and three patients with poorly controlled T2DM with insulin aspart 30 were selected and randomly divided into three groups: group A [continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) treatment group], group B (CSII combined with acarbose treatment), group C (CSII combined with sitagliptin treatment). The treatment lasted for two weeks and the clinical indicators in the three groups were measured.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) act as pivotal functions in tumor progression. Nevertheless, the functions and mechanism of circRNAs in T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) remain unclear. In this work, we first screened the differentially expressed circRNAs between T-LBL tissues and normal infantile thymus and circ-LAMP1 was identified the highest expressed circRNA in cancerous tissues.

Lung cancer is a major cause of death worldwide, and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate whether miR-96 mediated the invasion and metastasis of NSCLC by targeting glypican-3 (). Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) was employed to detect the level of miR-96 and GPC3 mRNA.

Increasing number of studies have indicated aberrant microRNA (miRNA) expression could affect normal biological progress in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. This study was performed to evaluate the biologic functions of microRNA-224 (miR-224) in NSCLC. Real-time PCR was performed to evaluate the expression of miR-224 and Homeobox D10 (HOXD10) in NSCLC cell lines and tissues.

Puerarin is an active ingredient of pueraria, which has been developed for puerarin injections, used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases including arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia and hypertension. However, the molecular mechanisms of puerarin on ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)‑induced myocardial apoptosis in diabetic rats are not fully understood. The present study aimed to investigate whether puerarin can attenuate I/R‑induced myocardial apoptosis in diabetic rats, and to investigate the underlying mechanism.

Human immunodeficiency virus subtype 1B (HIV-1B) binds to the CD4 receptor and co-receptor CCR5 or CXCR4 to enter T lymphocytes. The amino acid sequence of the HIV envelope glycoprotein V3 region determines the co-receptor tropism, thereby influencing the infectivity of the virus. Our research group previously found that the amino acid at position 22 of the V3 region may affect the infectivity of the virus, and in this study, we tested this hypothesis.
