Objectives: This study aimed to identify the cyclical "on-off" flow of pulmonary microcirculation during inspiration and expiration by sidestream dark field imaging (SDF) technology in vivo and investigate the effects of volume status and driving pressure on cyclical "on-off" flow of microcirculation.
Methods: 24 ARDS-modeled rabbits were randomly divided into high-driving pressure group (HDP group) and low-driving pressure group (LDP group). Lung microcirculation measurements were performed using the SDF microscope at two timepoints (T1 CVP 2-4 mmHg, T2 CVP 8-10 mmHg).

The gut microbiota, the complex community of microorganisms that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract, has emerged as a key player in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is characterized by progressive cognitive decline and neuronal loss, associated with the accumulation of amyloid-β plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and neuroinflammation in the brain. Increasing evidence suggests that alterations in the composition and function of the gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis, may contribute to the development and progression of AD by modulating neuroinflammation, a chronic and maladaptive immune response in the central nervous system.

Background: Stroke etiology could influence the outcomes in patients with basilar-artery occlusion (BAO). This study aimed to evaluate the differences in efficacy and safety of best medical treatment (BMT) plus endovascular treatment (EVT) versus BMT alone in acute BAO across different stroke etiologies.
Methods: The study was a post hoc analysis of the ATTENTION trial (Trial of Endovascular Treatment of Acute Basilar-Artery Occlusion), which was a multicenter, randomized trial at 36 centers in China from February 2021 to September 2022.

Combined mild-temperature photothermal/chemotherapy has emerged as a highly promising modality for tumor therapy. However, its therapeutic efficacy is drastically compromised by the heat-induced overexpression of heat shock proteins (HSPs) by the cells, which resist heat stress and apoptosis. The purpose of this study was to downregulate HSPs and enhance the mild-temperature photothermal/chemotherapy effect.

Background: The gut microbiome is composed of various microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, and constitutes an important part of the human gut. Its composition is closely related to human health and disease. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease whose underlying mechanism has not been fully elucidated.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) emerges as a perturbing neurodegenerative malady, with a profound comprehension of its underlying pathogenic mechanisms continuing to evade our intellectual grasp. Within the intricate tapestry of human health and affliction, the enteric microbial consortium, ensconced within the milieu of the human gastrointestinal tract, assumes a role of cardinal significance. Recent epochs have borne witness to investigations that posit marked divergences in the composition of the gut microbiota between individuals grappling with AD and those favored by robust health.

Various protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) have been demonstrated to be aberrantly expressed in cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to investigate the role of PRMT5 in myocardial hypertrophy. Levels of fibrosis markers, NLRP3-ASC-Caspase1, inflammatory factors, myocardial hypertrophy markers and oxidative stress markers were determined in cardiomyocytes.

The effect of green tea administration on serum lipids' concentrations remains unclear as various investigations, which have explored this topic, have produced conflicting results. Gender might be one of the factors influencing the impact of green tea on the lipid profile. Hence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the effect of green tea intake on the lipid profile in overweight and obese women.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a type of chronic, progressive, fibrotic lung disease of unclear cause with few treatment options. Cell therapy is emerging as a promising novel modality for facilitating lung repair. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based and macrophage-based cell therapies are regarded as promising strategies to promote lung repair, due to incredible regenerative potential and typical immunomodulatory function, respectively.

Background: Gemcitabine (GEM) is used as a standard first-line drug to effectively alleviate symptoms and prolong survival time for advanced pancreatic cancer. Most randomized controlled trials (RCTs) show that GEM-based combination therapy is better than GEM alone, while some RCTs have the opposite conclusion. This study aimed to investigate whether GEM-based combination therapy would be superior to GEM alone by a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Metabolomics can discover the biomarkers and metabolic pathways, provides the possibility for insights into the pharmacological action and mechanism of natural products. The therapeutic effect and mechanism of danshensu (DSS) on total metabolic pathways has not been well investigated. The aim of this study was to explore the disturbed endogenous biomarkers and metabolic pathways reflecting the pharmacological activity of DSS, and mechanism of action of DSS using comprehensive metabolome analysis based on high-throughput metabolomics technology combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) coupled with quadrupole tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF-MS) and pattern recognition method.

Human growth hormone (hGH) is widely used to treat several diseases for decades. However, the current treatment regime requires frequent injections subcutaneous route due to short half-life, which leads to pain and poor patient compliance. In this study, a novel transdermal (non-invasive) hGH loaded niosomes gel was prepared to reduce the frequency of subcutaneous injections and to improve the patient compliance.
