Biofactors

January 2025

Department of Oncology, Shanghai East Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Breast cancer continues to be a major health issue for women worldwide, with vimentin (VIM) identified as a crucial factor in its progression due to its role in cell migration and the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). This study focuses on elucidating VIM's regulatory mechanisms on the miR-615-3p/PICK1 axis. Utilizing the 4T1 breast cancer cell model, we first used RNA-seq and proteomics to investigate the changes in the APA of PICK1 following VIM knockout (KO).

Exploring Genetic Association of Tea Intake With Allergic Diseases Among European Population: A Bidirectional Mendelian Randomization Study.

Food Sci Nutr

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Neuropathic Pain, Healthcare Commission of Jiangxi Province Nanchang China.

Previous observational studies focused on the association of tea intake and allergic diseases. However, it is not known whether these associations are causal. We used a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study to assess the causal relationship of tea intake with the risk of allergic diseases, such as atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic rhinitis (AR), and allergic asthma (AA).

Background: Cadherin 13 (CDH13) is a member of the cadherin superfamily that exerts tumor-suppressive effects on cancers derived from epithelial cells. Although hypermethylation of CDH13 promoter has been reported in various cancers, its prognostic value for colorectal cancer (CRC) is still controversial. The methylation alterations of CDH13 within exon 1 have not yet been investigated.

Department of Gastroenterology, Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Digestive Diseases, Jiangxi Clinical Research Center for Gastroenterology, Digestive Disease Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China. Electronic address:

Early-stage liver fibrosis can be reversed; however, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. The intestinal tract hosts a substantial and diverse microbiota involved in various physiological activities and is closely linked to chronic liver disease. Previous studies have indicated that ursolic acid (UA), derived from herbal plants, possesses anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic properties; however, its precise mechanism remains to be elucidated.

Keloids are defined as a benign dermal fibroproliferative disorder, with excessive fibroblast proliferation, and excessive overproduction of collagen. Although the heterogeneity during keloid development has been extensively studied, the heterogeneity across different skin states is still unclear. So, a global comparison across skin states is needed.

The predictive value of albumin to alkaline phosphatase ratio for vertebral refractures in postmenopausal women.

J Bone Miner Metab

September 2024

Department of Spinal Surgery, Shanghai East Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, 200092, China.

Introduction: To investigate the clinical value of serum albumin to alkaline phosphatase ratio (AAPR) in predicting the risk of osteoporotic vertebral refractures group (OVRFs) after percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) in postmenopausal women.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective case-control study including a series of postmenopausal women patients with osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF) and underwent PVA. Patients were divided into OVRFs and non-OVRFs.

Background: At present, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), especially moderate to severe HIE, is a challenging disease for neonatologists to treat, and new alternative/complementary treatments are urgently needed. The neuroinflammatory cascade triggered by hypoxia-ischemia (HI) insult is one of the core pathological mechanisms of HIE. Early inhibition of neuroinflammation provides long-term neuroprotection.

Bioactivity and mechanism of action of sanguinarine and its derivatives in the past 10 years.

Biomed Pharmacother

April 2024

College of Pharmacy, Gannan Medical University, Ganzhou, Jiangxi 341000, PR China. Electronic address:

Sanguinarine is a quaternary ammonium benzophenanthine alkaloid found in traditional herbs such as Chelidonium, Corydalis, Sanguinarum, and Borovula. It has been proven to possess broad-spectrum biological activities, such as antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antiosteoporosis, neuroprotective, and antipathogenic microorganism activities. In this paper, recent progress on the biological activity and mechanism of action of sanguinarine and its derivatives over the past ten years is reviewed.

Background: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), fibrosis index based on four factors (Fib4), aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) can be used for prognostic evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma. However, no study has established an individualized prediction model for the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma based on these factors.

Aim: To screen the factors that affect the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and establish a nomogram model that predicts postoperative liver failure after hepatic resection in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

Curcumin's ability to impact chronic inflammatory conditions, such as metabolic syndrome and arthritis, has been widely researched; however, its poor bioavailability limits its clinical application. The present study is focused on the development of curcumin-loaded polymeric nanomicelles as a drug delivery system with anti-inflammatory effects. Curcumin was loaded in PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil and puronic F127 mixed nanomicelles (Cur-RH60/F127-MMs).

Liquids, functioning as nutrients and energy systems, regulate various functions during storage programs. Microenvironmental viscosity is one of the most important physical parameters associated with the extent of deterioration, and it is crucial to monitor the mutation of viscosity at a molecular level. Herein, we utilized caffeic acid (CaC), a natural product extracted from thistles, as a molecular probe for viscosity sensing.

In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation, the prognostic impact of a concurrent Phosphoinositide-3-kinase catalytic alpha polypeptide (PIK3CA) mutation was still unknown. Some studies have shown that EGFR mutant NSCLC patients treated with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) when concurrent PIK3CA mutation have a worse prognosis and shorter survival time. This study conducted a retrospective analysis of NSCLC patients with EGFR mutant or concurrent PIK3CA mutations from January 2015 to October 2019 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University.
