Background Guidelines recommend heart team discussion and coronary artery bypass graft consideration in patients with proximal left anterior descending (LAD) artery stenosis. Evidence suggests that outcomes of proximal LAD angioplasty might not differ from treatment of nonproximal LAD locations. We aim to determine clinical outcomes of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in the proximal LAD segment in comparison with nonproximal LAD angioplasty, using a thin-strut drug-eluting stent.

Background: In patients with mild to moderate functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and absence of right ventricular dysfunction or tricuspid annulus (TA) dilatation, there is currently no indication for concomitant tricuspid valve (TV) repair during elective mitral valve (MV) surgery. However, long-term results are conflicting. Here, we sought to determine the clinical outcome of this cohort, the rate of TR progression after MV surgery and the role of MV aetiology.

Background: Multidose drug dispensing (MDD) is used to help patients take their medicines appropriately. Little is known about drug regimen changes within these MDD systems and how they are effectuated by the community pharmacist. Manual immediate adjustments of the MDD system could introduce dispensing errors.

Influence of endometrial thickness on pregnancy rates in modified natural cycle frozen-thawed embryo transfer.

Introduction: Pregnancy after frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) is a multifactorial process. Although embryo quality is a key factor in determining pregnancy, other factors, including maternal determinants, are also considered to be predictive. Even though an association between endometrial thickness measured by transvaginal ultrasound and pregnancy rates has been reported in patients undergoing various assisted reproductive technology treatments, whether endometrial thickness predicts achieving pregnancy after natural cycle FET (NC-FET) remains unclear.

Factors contributing to variation in the use of multimodality treatment in patients with gastric cancer: A Dutch population based study.

Background: Substantial variation in the use of (neo) adjuvant treatment in patients with gastric cancer exists. The aim of this study was to identify underlying (organizational and process) factors associated with the use of perioperative therapy.

Quality of life questionnaires in otorhinolaryngology: a systematic overview.

Background: The importance of quality of life (QOL) as an endpoint and the use of validated QOL questionnaires have increased over time.

Objectives: To evaluate health-related quality of life (HR-QOL) measurement instruments used in patients in otorhinolaryngology (ORL). We aimed to establish the use of QOL questionnaires in ORL over a period of time, establish the use of QOL questionnaires within different domains and determine the use of validated QOL questionnaires.

Comparison of clinical outcome after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy in different types of KRAS mutated advanced non-small-cell lung cancer.

Objectives: As suggested by in-vitro data, we hypothesize that subtypes of KRAS mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) respond differently to chemotherapy regimens.

Methods: Patients with advanced NSCLC and known KRAS mutation, treated with first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, were retrieved from hospital databases.

Background: Nitroglycerin (NTG) increases tumor blood flow and oxygenation by inhibiting hypoxia-inducible-factor (HIF)-1. A randomized phase II study has shown improved outcome when NTG patches were added to vinorelbine/cisplatin in patients with advanced nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In addition, there is evidence that the combination of bevacizumab and HIF-1 inhibitors increases antitumor activity.

Embolization of a left uterine artery mycotic aneurysm after a neglected, perforated appendicitis before delivery.

We report a case of a successful embolization of a mycotic aneurysm of the left uterine artery in the puerperium after a neglected perforated appendicitis. A mycotic aneurysm, meaning an infection of the vessel wall which leads to an aneurysmatic dilatation of the vessel, is potentially life threatening if rupture occurs.

Knowledge of Q fever has increased over the last decades, but research has mainly focused on adults. Data in children are scarce, and current knowledge is mostly based on case reports. The aim of this study was to determine predictors for acute Q fever in children in the general population.

Since inhalation therapy will probably remain the preferred route of treatment for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), it is important to provide helpful information that may assist physicians and nurses in selecting the appropriate device(s) for individual patients as well as prescribing the correct medication. In line with the GOLD guidelines, the Aerosol Drug Management Improvement Team (ADMIT) propose a three-part "therapy adjustment strategy", which provides health care professionals with a way to monitor and check the delivery of inhaled medication. The strategy is a summation of the key principles behind the evidence-based management of stable COPD and exacerbations.

Accuracy of transrectal ultrasonography in staging rectal tumors that are clinically eligible for transanal endoscopic microsurgery.

Purpose: Transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) is performed in patients with premalignant or selected stage T1 rectal lesions. Transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) is an important tool in the preoperative staging of rectal lesions to determine whether lesions are suitable for TEM or not. We analyze the accuracy of TRUS in distinguishing between rectal lesions requiring TEM or more radical excision.
