Article Synopsis
  • Radiation-induced liver disease (RILD) can occur not only from high-dose liver irradiation but also from unintentional low-dose exposure during treatment for other cancers, highlighting the need for caution.
  • A case study of a 44-year-old woman with lymphoma revealed a lesion in her liver one month after undergoing radiotherapy, initially raising concerns about potential metastasis.
  • Diagnosis confirmed RILD through biopsy, and after conservative management and monitoring, the patient's liver function and imaging normalized within about three months, showcasing how RILD should be considered when new liver lesions appear post-radiotherapy.

Painful pelvic and spinal bone metastases are a considerable challenge for doctors and patients. Conventional therapies include morphine-equivalent medication (MeM) and local radiotherapy (RT), but these interventions are not always successful. More recently, hyperthermia (HT) has been applied to complement RT and MeM, and this complex approach has shown promising synergistic results.

Background: FAM83H was originally reported to be essential for dental enamel formation. However, FAM83H has recently been implicated in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Analysis of a publicly available gene expression database revealed a significant correlation between FAM83H and Nectin1 mRNA expression and bladder urothelial carcinoma (BUC).

Lynch syndrome (LS) is an inherited syndrome associated with an increased risk of cancer caused by abnormalities in DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been reported to lead to a good response in cancers accompanied by LS. However, ICI therapy can cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs).

Background: To estimate real-world outcomes in East Asian populations, we conducted a nationwide retrospective analysis of the efficacy and safety of lenalidomide for del(5q) myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients with transfusion-dependent anemia in Korea.

Methods: Patients aged ≥19 years who had received lenalidomide for the treatment of lower-risk, red blood cell (RBC) transfusion-dependent del(5q) MDS were selected. A filled case report form (CRF) with information from electronic medical records was requested from members of the acute myeloid leukemia (AML)/MDS Working Party of the Korean Society of Hematology.

Background: Early diagnosis and continuous monitoring are necessary for an efficient management of cervical cancers (CC). Liquid biopsy, such as detecting circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) from blood, is a simple, non-invasive method for testing and monitoring cancer markers. However, tumor-specific alterations in ctDNA have not been extensively investigated or compared to other circulating biomarkers in the diagnosis and monitoring of the CC.

In syndesmosis injury, whether the syndesmosis screw should be removed prior to weight-bearing remains controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the functional outcome between removed screw and retained groups and between recurrence of diastasis and no diastasis groups.Fifty-six patients who had undergone open reduction and internal fixation due to syndesmosis injury were retrospectively evaluated and divided into four groups: (A) removed syndesmotic screw before weight-bearing (postoperative 3 months, n = 28), (B)retained (n = 28), (C) recurrence of diastasis (n = 9), and (D) no diastasis (n = 47).
